CDs should have remained in cases similar to floppy discs even when it became an optical format. Manufacturers shouldn't have cucked to the record company boomers who insisted that music come on round objects.
Cheap steam sales got PC gamers used to buying digitally and companies were happy to stop having to waste money on >boxes >cds >manuals >shipping >assorted goodies
Now PC sales are nowhere near as good so it sucks, we fell for the trap. Consolefags are going through the same thing right now.
It'll probably come back when Trump gets back in office and passes the anti-NAFTA law to bring jobs and goods back here. It may take a few years to get to that point though.
>he doesn't have all this image files backed up on a MEGA account
NGMI
I don't think you get what a house fire is anon, unless all your digital are in drive's and those inside a fireproof safe then it doesn't matter what form your media is beside's physical media can come with art/lore books, poster's and can also have paintings etc...
1. create optical disc images of your CDs
2. upload it to MEGA or any other reliable cloud service
3. house fire destroys your drives or CDs
4. download disc images from your MEGA account onto your drives
>what the fuck happened to physical media?
usb drives made discs obsolete for data transportation, and streaming made discs obsolete for entertainment. cheap hard drives made discs obsolete for long term storage. the internet got faster, and you could install a game faster than a disc could operate. the world moved on.
Discs are digital too, there's no difference between having a game on a disc and a drive. People were giving it up for DRM (Steam, consoles) well before physical media lost favor. If you're locked into DRM anyway there's no reason to pay for someone to copy the files to a disc and mail it to you and downloading it directly from steam/PSN/xbox other than convenience.
>$70 >$90 if you want to play days early >$100 if you want a bunch of other shit that isn't real
No manual
No box art
No stand alone copy of their program, one that takes 4 labeled, pressed, copied discs

So true!

the only way to keep a CD working in 50 years is to not use it. the read limit on flash media will long outlast
pointless waste of paper and plastic
>muh paper

Digital and companies realized they can make more money with digital and force people to use it.

It's pretty wild that in 2023 people still live in flammable houses.
So every burger ever?
