What the hell where they thinking?

>Plays the legendary Resident evil 2 for the first time.
>After a long intro, finally the action starts.
>Notices how the controls are "tank style" controls.
>Notices also the game does not lets you adapt to the tank controls, the shoot buttons, etc because the female character is already surrounded by like 5 zombies willing to bite her arse.
>Dies eaten by the zombies.

I mean, there is not at least 1 or 2 safe rooms to practice the use of the buttons and the controls before facing the dangers and monsters? as the angry videogame nerds says "What the hell where they thinking?".

They were probably thinking RE1 is the 17th highest selling PS1 game - so everyone probably already played it. Let's get straight to the action.

Yeah silly to complain about, getting dropped straight into the action felt awesome. OP should play RE1 first and the RE2 demo disc that came with the Director's Cut version of RE1.

Alone in the Dark 2 does the same thing.
First game at least gave you a minute or two before dropping an enemy on you if you fail to block the entry points in the attic. The sequel immediately drops you into combat against multiple enemies armed with guns. If you aren't familiar with tank controls and the game's combat system, you are dead. Even if you are, it's still a tough battle.

"survival" games are all like that. better ones don't stick to the ass tank controls or make your MC move like a snail's ass.

I remember gaming magazines giving RE2 a hard time because it was too easy compared to the original.
My 12yo self could finish the game with an A rank every single day. Good times

The more brisk and frantic action is what made it memorable. It was a completely different approach than the first game.

They were thinking that it would be cool for returning players to experience Resident Evil 1's intro in gameplay form and they were right. It's the most adrenaline rushing start sequence of the series.

You don't need to "adapt" to the tank controls. After one dpad input any player is able to tell that they can't strafe, and will therefore make a path accordingly

Just try again zoomer, that's the point.

RE4 is no different, the village attack is difficult the first time and you even have a chainsaw guy, but it's no issue because you can retry as many times as you want and you ARE supposed to do that.

There are harder filters out there, the garage in Driver 1.

      >RE4 is no different,

at least in resident evil 4 you have a lot of time(from the time the character leaves the cops car to the village attack) to learn the controls. In resident evil 2 its literally the first room with enemies.

You could just, you know, try again. It's the beginning of the game so it's not like you're losing any progress. Why are gamers so fricking whiney over the most trivial things

They were probably thinking "Okay, how do we expand on this formula and make it interesting? We already had it take place in a remote forested mansion with a bunch of wacky puzzles, then in a city with slightly more grounded puzzles where you weren't tied down to one location the entire time....More action?"

I seriously do not understand why tank controls are so hard for people to grasp. Do you guys lack the ability to visualize in your mind's eye or something? I have NEVER had trouble with tank controls, even when I was a kid.

False. They work perfectly in the space they are used in (fixed camera angles).

Eh, putting the player is an unfamiliar situation and having enemies chase after them has been a common strategy since gaming began as a method of padding out the game length.

What's interesting is that some games will get defended for doing it while others, IIRC, Highlander - Last of the MacLeods will get shit on for doing it.

It makes you feel like you are disoriented from a car crash but forced to figure out your faculties, enforcing the vibe that you will never be safe from the get-go. It's quite genius and fitting for the game, really.

i still wonder if resident evil's surplus of porn/coomer mods and it starting to bleed into street fighter are the reason why capcom is so against modding now.

the amount of them on the nexus rivals almost any bethesda RPG.

People complain about the tank controls so much but if you play the Gamecube version it works quite well with an analogue stick
