I actually agree with you as a Millennial, Anon. I think my personal biggest issue with streaming is the whole parasocial relationship thing. I'm a bit scared of people growing up kinda isolated, finding a streamer they like watching, getting attention from that streamer and then feeling like that's "friendship". Look at how many people online say they feel in "love" with their streamer who is not even aware they exist.
It's not even that they are idiots who should know better and that they are being milked, I think it's just human psychology that you may accidentally develop these ghost connections and neglect real life ones.

You forgot the removal of the dislike button, a premium option to watch without ads, and the total destruction of the recommendations system. Even in 2015 you could be recommended small channels, now every video your recommended has 100k + views unless it is part of a tag you watch videos in.

Nobody would say the NES was a millennial console or that millennials listened to hair metal and grunge. Some were alive when that stuff began, yes, but most of them weren't. The audience for those things were mostly Gen X'ers.
What people think of as millennial culture doesn't really begin until the late 90s, which means all millennials had been born already. By that same standard, zoomer culture doesn't start until like 2010.

Most of that is millennial. The games especially were targeted for teenagers (14-18 years old), not for 9 year old zoomers. Zoomers ‘remember’ watching their bro play, or fiddling around on the controller. But the novelty of online console gaming did not hit them since they were barely immersed in the previous gens. To experience the Xbox360 fully, you need to know gen 5 and 6 fully in order grasp how much bigger the world became now that you can play someone oceans away. Zoomers don’t know this personally. They saw vids or fiddled a little bit with older consoles but the societal aspect isn’t there for them. It’s like 9/11.
zoomer here. spent my teenage years in the 2010s, 21 years old currently. i grew up with both newer and older games, since my parents gave me their older games. played stuff like BF2142 and CoD1, but also had an interest in older strategy games like WarCraft 2 and Steel Panthers. Doom 3 gave me an interest in the earlier games, which led to my love for 90s shooters and PC games in general. i think a lot of what ties my favorite games has to do with their sense of pace, variation and player agency. give me a lot to keep track of and im hooked, whether its a 90s shooter with a high bodycount or a simulationist tactical strategy game. playing a lot of splinter cell chaos theory recently, have to keep track of guard patrols, alternate entrances and exits, proscons of the various methods you have to prevent and end conflict, and your limited health pool. its a linear console game, but its almost as deep and certainly as exciting to play as an immersive sim. in comparison the newer CoD games never clicked for me, seems the single-player campaigns never evolved since CoD2 and the multiplayer is bland with it mainly revolving around ADSing over and over again, and my zoomer brain wants to think about something different constantly. i think "soul" and "atmosphere" are boomer pretense and im more interested in mechanics and fun factor than anything else. if you got a fun game where the graphics are just hexes and chits im still interested. people shit on doom eternal here and its because apparently a game about killing shit can only be judged by its writing. its still the best shooter since FEAR and the AI is as good too, sorry boomers. no cap, fr.

No pistol start and I did save but only for the first play-through of a level to learn the map. After my first play-through, I played the same level without saving and restarted if I died. I just beat Final Doom so I might try pistol start one of these days
Not him but I've been going through the older doom games by pistol starting, it's definitely a different feel. I understand why more modern WADS often assume pistol starting as it's really hard to balance a 32 map wad not knowing how much health, ammo or what secrets you got along the way, but it makes sense to design 32 individually fun levels that are balanced from the same starting point.

I agree, there are some good /vg/ threads, because they're segregated well enough. If a certain general is too autistic you can browse any number of other generals that pique your interest and find one that isn't full of people who should probably be euthanized for the betterment of society. I'm a bit scared of people growing up kinda isolated, finding a streamer they like watching, getting attention from that streamer and then feeling like that's "friendship". To experience the Xbox360 fully, you need to know gen 5 and 6 fully in order grasp how much bigger the world became now that you can play someone oceans away. Zoomers don’t know this personally. They saw vids or fiddled a little bit with older consoles but the societal aspect isn’t there for them. It’s like 9/11.

zoomer here. spent my teenage years in the 2010s, 21 years old currently. i grew up with both newer and older games, since my parents gave me their older games. played stuff like BF2142 and CoD1, but also had an interest in older strategy games like WarCraft 2 and Steel Panthers. Doom 3 gave me an interest in the earlier games, which led to my love for 90s shooters and PC games in general. i think a lot of what ties my favorite games has to do with their sense of pace, variation and player agency. give me a lot to keep track of and im hooked, whether its a 90s shooter with a high bodycount or a simulationist tactical strategy game. playing a lot of splinter cell chaos theory recently, have to keep track of guard patrols, alternate entrances and exits, proscons of the various methods you have to prevent and end conflict, and your limited health pool. its a linear console game, but its almost as deep and certainly as exciting to play as an immersive sim. in comparison the newer CoD games never clicked for me, seems the single-player campaigns never evolved since CoD2 and the multiplayer is bland with it mainly revolving around ADSing over and over again, and my zoomer brain wants to think about something different constantly. i think "soul" and "atmosphere" are boomer pretense and im more interested in mechanics and fun factor than anything else. if you got a fun game where the graphics are just hexes and chits im still interested. people shit on doom eternal here and its because apparently a game about killing shit can only be judged by its writing. its still the best shooter since FEAR and the AI is as good too, sorry boomers. no cap, fr.

I understand why more modern WADS often assume pistol starting as it's really hard to balance a 32 map wad not knowing how much health, ammo or what secrets you got along the way, but it makes sense to design 32 individually fun levels that are balanced from the same starting point.
