What was the intended way to fight these frickers? Hitting them in the face works but even then it feels completely random how much damage you take from the fight.
The dagger throwing is sporadic as hell and too fast to dodge properly most of the time.

but even before you start seeing the blue ironknuckles I'd long since learned that you can get past their shield every strike if you jump first before striking
just do as much damage as possible in the brief time you have before the fricker starts spamming his knife throws

They take a brief moment to switch between guarding high and low. I'm pretty sure the "intended" way to fight them is to learn the rhythm and crouch/stand as you're swinging your sword so they don't move their shield in time.

I'm more interested in how you're supposed to fight these homies. I always walk past them because there's no point to actually dueling with them and risking damage by that point in the game, so I never learned.

Like all the enemies, not difficult with practice. Block his beams and up attack when he jumps, or slash him on his way down.
People take too many hits on this game and panic instead of blocking. This guy, and the rest of the enemies for that matter, drops his sword when he will attack low. It will appear behind his leg. Just pay attention to the sprite.

it's not worth it to fight them, just run like a b***h
The blue ones take like 10-15 seconds to kill when you're at level 8 attack. Not that hard, just try it next time.
Pretty recently played that shit for the first time too, had the same issue. No other tactics as far as I know, just jump and hit the c**t.
Everyone always claims that the jumping attack is "unintended", but I don't think it is true at all.
I looked at the code and the position of the enemies shield depend on LInk's position on the Y axis, therefore jumping and ducking is literally the only way to make the enemies move their shields and be able to get a shot at it.
It's also very silly to think none of the devs or testers would have thought about the jump attack.

No need to duck. Just timing it so you hit the top of their head registers a hit even if they have their shield up.
I know that and it's not the point. I didn't say you need to perform duck-jump to hit them, I said ducking and jumping are the only things that will make them move their shields

You just suck. It's possible to beat all the enemies without jump attacking. Get faster at attacking.
You know what, I apologize. Maybe your setup has a bunch of lag or something. So it possible that you are capable f doing it but you are using a shitty lcd display or some ancient emulator instead of real hardware
