It's a really powerful system ruined by bus contention. If they separated the RAM into 3, main RAM math RAM and framebuffer RAM that is, it would've been performing as fast as the 3DO. With flat polygons of course, but still as fast.
>raison d'etre
It's raison d'etre was to try and save Atari's badly failing console division which had produced failure after failure since the early 80's and it failed that raison entirely.
theres a handful of ok games
but unless you copped the system for cheap i cant recommend it in good faith

im an atari gay and have all their home systems
Teaching others that dedicated 2D hardware was obsolete and that simpler designs with lower maximum theoretical power ceiling were better than the inverse.
Let's make an even more pointless and expensive 3DO, by also inspiring the PS3's hardware architecture! also let's repurpose our console's casing molds for 3D dental scanners for some reason

What? It was only $250 at launch and soon got discounted to $150 while the 3DO was $700. Also it had better 2D performance and graphics than 3DO.

rayman. it proved the system could do 2D games that look far beyond all those shitty genesis/amiga ports
is it worth checking out over the ps1 release?
>on DOS?
For DOS. Saying "on DOS" just sounds weird.
Wasn’t that also on DOS?
"on dos" does sound strange as frick
esp for those who grew up with it or were forced to use it
but now that it is a depreciated OS and no longer in daily use;
i guess that vernacular is technically correct
"on windows 95" "on windoze 98" "on windows ME" etc
i still say "using D0S" but it comes up so rarely in workplay situations that i dont think most even think about it besides oldgays
>tldr; press F to pay respects to microsoft BOB software
>is it worth checking out over the ps1 release?
The Jaguar version was developed first and didn't have the handful of visual improvements the PS1 version got due to that. I think the image quality is better though, Jaguar renders graphics in CRY colors rather than RGB and it gives a smoother and tastefully darker tint to the image.

Tempest 2000
yeah it's sick. I guess the AVP game is good too? I've never tried it.
>I guess the AVP game is good too?
Yeah it's pretty good, graphics a bit more enjoyable than gameplay but that's just my opinion
'Good' for the Jaguar doesn't necessarily extend further.
Wasn’t that also on DOS?
DOS and Classic Mac OS, yes. It's also on all the new consoles and PC in the Atari 50 collection

"Frick all y'all. Atari still in this b***h. Aight we out."

Scaring Sega into releasing the abortion that was the 32X, apparently.

Looks and runs much better than say gex on 3DO too.

I read a different thing
