This and overwatch. This is what happens when you try to appeal to normies. They will devour you and leave you a decrepit husk of your former self.

go killyourself you absolute pseud. Ow is the most original fps experience to this date. They have started to massivly casulize it just now with ow2, making the game more dps and pve oriented. And guess what, normies and Gankertards included can't wait for it.

There were multiple turning points which lead to multiple dark ages. The first was 2008 with the launch of Wrath of the Lich King because it made WoW too easy hot off the heels of the most try hard iteration of the game, the next was in Warlords of Draenor because it was garbage, and then the next and latest turning point which lead to their soon to be official acquisition by Microsoft was them ruining the Burning Crusade release with cash ops/level boost and the news of their weird office sex stuff/bullying a girl to suicide came out.

the decline of Blizzard and all of gaming are women getting involved into it

This to be honest. If you're old enough to remember, anime detroyed nerd culture in North America. Anime brought cosplay to nerd communities, cosplay brought women, women brought normies and sjws. Normies started larping as nerds making nerd culture mainstream. Then women started pretending that they were always a part of nerd culture and here we are today.

It's the truth. There was a clear and distinct before and after. It started around the year 2000. In the 90's there were almost no women at comic book conventions or video game events. Then anime became popular around the year 2000 then you started seeing women cosplaying because it was an excuse for them to dress up loose. Then you started seeing more women and normies. It played out exactly the way I said it. Anybody who refutes this was not into nerd culture before the year 2000.

Marvel is not anime and basically did what he said but even worse(for us). Anime was never a culprit considering its still the most anti-normie nerd medium. Boards Games became the world nu-office worker hobby of choice for fake nerds. That guy is full of bullshit.

Their ban of players running Diablo 3 through Wine. That happened at the same time Valve was starting to really take GNU/Linux seriously. Which let Valve capture a growing market that Blizzard had previously owned.

If Blizzard had played their cards differently they could have been in a position to launch a device like the Steam Deck today. Instead they shackled themselves to Windows.

Hero units in Warcraft 3 was how they ruined the whole RTS industry and spawned the unholy MOBA zoomer shitshow. The "hero" rpg elements even managed to brush off on CoD4: MW through "perks" and ruined FPS forever, now you can't have any proper pure skill based FPS, it all has to be rock-paper-scissors bullshit with RPG elements in a MOBA shell.

      Anonymous

Heroes are fun, and RPG elements add customizability and replayability to games. More games should incorporate them. The problem is when they’re used in an idiotic way, as the examples you’ve listed, but that doesn’t discount the idea

        Anonymous

Sure, it is fun. But it can't become an idiotic timewaste like you say. For example Call of Juarez: Gunslinger did it right for singleplayer FPS, you can branch into improving your pistol or rifle in a few steps, then try something different on the next playthrough. Too much of it will put off players, it's why AoE 2 is more popular than 3, because the hometown cards tip the complexity just slightly over the point where you don't want to bother anymore. The same crap different packaging happened in Red Alert 3. The unit design, features and utility weren't simple and easy to grasp anymore. I think Starcraft 2 suffers from this kinda "RPG originality syndrome" a bit too. On the other hand is Age of Mythology, which was easy to grasp because the units were designed after pre-existing mythology and you could easily reconnect your synapses for some fresh Age of Empires gameplay. Developers try too hard to have "diversity" which doesn't appeal to casual and returning players would be my conclusion.

Funny you bring up AoE because the perfect way to implement a hero dynamic would be to enable each civ to have a Khan style hero character like the Mongols in AoEIV

The most egregious problems came with Activision.

This. There are a lot of smaller failures that add up but this has to be the singular biggest event.

Wrath overall was their first big actual frickup though, between being released way too early resulting in a ton of cut content, all the rehashed content, and all the ills that came along as the expansion went on, it always struck me as the first bad turn the company really made.

Definitely whenever they decided to make OW2. You could argue that Blizzard came back with Legion and Overwatch even though Starcraft and Diablo were basically dead. But them ending support for Overwatch and then fricking up wow right after legion is what truly caused their downfall.

They don't have anything of substance anymore besides maybe Hearthstone? Their true decline was relatively recent imo.
