Small number of exclusives
Halo Infinite is mediocre to bad
Controller is the exact same as the previous one, with few innovations unlike the PS5 controller
Starfield will be on PC, along with all the other "exclusives"
It's the same story as PS4 vs XBONE. Xbox is a poor man's playstation, or a poorer man's PC.
Playstation is literally doing the same, putting all their exclusive on PC.
Didn't be fooled by games on PC because those don't really count since 1/3 of PC player plays or can play console games.
Gets more people to play their games now so that when you have to subscribe to Game Pass to play them in the future, people will be more willing to do so because they played and enjoyed the previous games. Same reason everything is ported to PC day 1 and why Sony is panic releasing their games on PC so that Microsoft doesn't get all the PCgays subbing to Game Pass while no one cares about PS+ in the future. Which will still probably happen anyway because Sony barely has any first party games worth a damn that anyone would sub for because they're all singleplayer story driven games. That's one of the reasons why Jim Ryan wants them to focus on making GaaS titles so people will sub to play Snoynite, Escape from Japan, and Gaysex Legends.

can you get game pass directly from steam and does it say if a game is included in game pass? If not then it won't lead to more game pass subs

I don't think you realize just how strong the IPs that Microsoft now owns are. People already downloaded battle.net just to play CoD, Diablo 4, Overwatch, and WoW. Blizzard might have tanked those IPs but people would give a new sequel under Microsoft a chance and those are games that can snowball as soon as 1 person in a friend group caves and starts playing it, before you know it the entire friend group FOMOs in. There's Elder Scrolls and Fallout on top of those, which are still big games and people will want to play Elder Scrolls 6 regardless of where it's at. They can get kids on Game Pass early with Minecraft as well. They can also just flat out buy exclusivity of big new upcoming games for it because it's Microsoft, they've already announced that they have Kojima making an exclusive Game Pass cloud game for them.
Microsoft will continue to make more acquisitions, Game Pass will only look more enticing in the future. It's a genius move by Microsoft because their end goal here is them having a service that not only competes against Playstation and Nintendo, but also mobile(via XCloud) and PC. GP is just about the only thing that would be able to make a dent against steam with such big IPs and Microsoft's infinite money. Give it until the start of the next generation and I guarantee you that Microsoft will start making major moves.

They already announced they have Kojima working on an XCloud exclusive. They will also obliviously change course once they're no longer trying to get as many people possible to play their games.
Phil also spent $100 million to make Rise of the Tomb Raider a timed exclusive but he realized that it doesn't work for Xbox because no one is going to buy one to play it. But here's the thing, Game Pass is not Xbox. There's no $399 buy in to play the $60 game, it's anywhere from $1 to $15 depending on what you're doing. That is the difference. Not to mention that we saw Windows Store exclusives on PC already too under him.

but that's not exclusivity buyout cause kojima agreed to exclusivity due to clouds microsoft provides. Literally the only three exclusivity deals this gen were indie slop (meduim, high on life, scorn) that came to PS5 6 months later. >There's no $399 buy in to play the $60 game,
yeah and we see how low xbox charts every month. Phil is actively killing xbox with his strategy

>Phil is actively killing xbox with his strategy
They do not care about Xbox any longer. It's about Game Pass. Phil has explicitly stated this, they're no longer even pretending to be in the console war they're attempting to make their own future market instead so they can be on top of that. Their money is going towards day 1 GP titles now instead of buying exclusivity (timed or otherwise).

he wound up falling in love with forza horizon 2 per my recommendation

>People already downloaded battle.net just to play CoD
They literally didn't, though. That came out in the trial. They saw no meaningful conversion to Battle.Net, despite holding CoD hostage. That's why they came crawling back to Steam with MW2.
CoD is obviously huge, but it's not something people will jump through hoops over. That's why MS is committed to it staying on PlayStation, because they know it won't really move the needle if they make it exclusive.
Microsoft has Windows store and releasing games day one on PC is also just a way to promote their store and simply make more money out of their software. Simple as.
Maybe calling it the SERIES S and SERIES X was a terrible fricking idea. Xbox One was already a bad brand name, and they abandoned the entire media center approach that even justified that name in the first place, but jesus christ. I have an XSX as a gift and there also isn't a lot to play on it that really stands out in terms of first-party at all.
Years ago I told the guy I wanted a One X and he put a One S on the counter and started ringing it up. The memes are real, the name fricking sucks. I don't know where else you can go from Xbox 360 though.
This is cope that you cannot hide behind forever. Wii U was the largest flop of the big 3 console manufacturers ever, and Nintendo is now the dominant force in the market. The sad truth is Xbox's library is somehow worse than Sony's, and Phil would rather whine and cry about it instead of fixing that issue.
>Xbox's library is somehow worse than Sony's
gears tactics on its own is a better game than anything sony has released on the ps5
t.idort gran turismo homosexual
it helps that nintendo merged their console and handheld users into one corner of the market that they'll own forever
their pivot to arm was the smartest business move they've ever made in my opinion, they can go anywhere overnight for cheap
>What went so horribly wrong?
This guy. He's been trying to get stream/cloud gaming done since the mid 2000s
Went from Sony (Gakai or whatever it was called) to Microsoft (XBone) to Google/Stadia > Can the Xbox brand recover?
I doubt so, it entrenched a bunch of shitty practices (paid DLCs, paid online, etc.) to consoles. Now it's trying to get everything into the bloodstream with XBox Live/GamePass.
This is what matters to MS, not selling consoles but selling subscriptions
The Series X has no audience, they're selling a product the majority of the public doesn't care about buying. Sony fans will still buy the PS5 as a gaming console. PC fans will stick to PC. Somebody who just wants to lightly play games or can afford less will stick to Microsoft's own alternatives like the Series S or a cheap computer. The casual console gamer has no reason to buy a Series X over a PS5 as Sony's household name is stronger and Microsoft's purchases haven't resulted in quality exclusives.
>Can the Xbox brand recover?
No. It will never recover regardless of what they purchase. What will do well is "Game Pass" when that becomes its own thing and they ditch the Xbox brand altogether. The name Xbox probably does more harm than good at this point if we're being honest, GP will do better when it's marketed as its own thing.
Microsoft's future is Cloud Gaming where Game Pass gets unified into one virtual product they fully control and only sell subscriptions for. Xbox will become a retired brand and home consoles, obsolete.
Cope: the thread
Gamepass is here to stay. Xbox ain't going anywhere. Play where you want on the platform with the features you want. Nothing. Else. Matters.
I honestly don't know. I've never seen anyone who actually even considered getting one. My country might be different, but here's it's either nintendo / playstation or PC, but never xbox.
I genuinely don't see the point of it. It's literally a pointless console
Normies play CoD and FIFA on Playstation. I guess amerimutt normies play their CoD and NBA/Madden on Xbox, maybe? But I think even there the PS is more popular
The more "hardcore" gamers would just plai their "exusives" on a PC.
I just don't see the point of this, Microsoft would probably do way better if they stop bothering with hardware and just completely turn the Xbox brand into game service/store like Steam with all the studios they own now and the gamepass
Xbox lost the game ten years ago when digital downloads became a thing. They probably pushed for it harder than ps did, I imagine. Well, now I’d be hard pressed to ever buy an xbox, everything I’ve bought is a digital license with playstation. To switch would be to throw away all that access. And I won’t buy a xbox just for one or two games, so they lost.
Also- asymmetrical thumbs sticks and a battery pack? Kek no thanks.
>To switch would be to throw away all that access.
you can keep playing both consoles, anon
i have digital libraries for both sony and ms, it's not hard
Didn't know about Mexico, but I guess, they are just emulating whatever their neighbor is doing
I don't know about China, judging by all the chinks I keep seeing in games online on Playstation makes me think that its the main console there
I'm looking forward to picking up the Black Series S on release.
It's sleek.

Didn't be fooled by games on PC because those don't really count since 1/3 of PC player plays or can play console games.
yeah, but you have to wait half a decade with playstation games
It's just a no-brainer for Microsoft to put games on their own operating system day one. Sony would do the same if windows was theirs.
how putting games on steam day one helps microsoft?

Makes money from PC gays. I skipped 8th gen so Microsoft putting shit on Steam meant I actually gave them money.
Yeah it's not that bad
>every exclusive also on pc
fire phil spencer and it all work out
Everything went right, cope and seethe.

no, they've been dead since mattick fricked them over and they will never recover.

The portable gaming market you mean.
Phil Fish was in charge of software back then. Both are to blame.

Nothing. I’m unironically enjoying my series X while Ganker seethes about “muh” exclusives“ which are weabb games I don’t give a frick about anyway.

PC is a different segment, poor

Microsoft should just rebrand Xbox to gamepass box

astroturfing or just dick riding?
i like xbox

I honestly don't know. I've never seen anyone who actually even considered getting one. My country might be different, but here's it's either nintendo / playstation or PC, but never xbox.
It's my Ninja Gaiden and Dead Or Alive machine.
It does its job tbh.
xbox is doing nothing wrong in gaming as a whole
sony however templatized their entire list of ip into forest corridor third person movies
No, MS made the best console this gen but people ignored it anyway.
NEVER EVER
I genuinely don't see the point of it. It's literally a pointless console

I'm planning on getting a series x sometime when I have enough money.
>Release a new console
>Make no games for it
>it flops
They really never thinking this thought.
Confusing branding. Xbox One? Xbox One X? Xbox Series X S? What? Their generation ended at the 360
It's easy tho
>X Bone
>Series Shit
>Series Twitter
>Turns 360 degrees and walks away
>What went so horribly wrong?
Xbox is a heavily western skewed brand, the west forgot how to make good games about a decade ago
>Xbox is a heavily western skewed
It really isn't, no one outside of muttmerica uses it
>mainland china and mexico are america
they're pretty gud at regional pricing
Didn't know about Mexico, but I guess, they are just emulating whatever their neighbor is doing
I don't know about China, judging by all the chinks I keep seeing in games online on Playstation makes me think that its the main console there
They have the correct strategy for long term as consoles are just shitty PCs now and the PC market is growing
Only if they bring Peter Moore back. At the current rate it will end up being sold for pennies like Yahoo and Nokia.
Love my Series X. So glad I'm done with Sony.
