What went wrong? I get that a lot of people were put off by the black female protagonist but are there any other glaring issues with it? How does it compare to the first one?

Get woke, go broke.
>what went wrong
EGS exclusive. otherwise I really liked it, but nobody can talk about games on here if the outrage obsessed morons latch onto it.
Pretty much this.
Also surprised how good the visual and use of lighting is when I usually don't care about that sort of thing. Don't wanna praise too much though because nothing disgusts me more than stroking Sam Lake's ego.
Cam someone please show Sam Lake how to use a film camera so he can stop making pretentious games and go make pretentious movies like he desperately wants to.
He already made a 15-minute short that you can watch in Alan Wake 2
He really is Finnish Kojima
The film industry is pretty dead right now. The last thing you want to do right now is work in film. Trust me. He should do literally anything else.
If he did that he would realise how much of a hack he is and wouldn't be able to spend his time wishing people saw him like they see Kojima
>EGS exclusive
damn i didn't know that, sounds like a moronic decision
Epic funded 100% of the games dev cost.
Yep. Remedy lost around 20m but it's all good, ESG and EGS are covering them.
I don't care about your /misc/ boogeman nonsense.
Alan Wake 2 was a fantastic game and I'm glad that Epic footed the bill for it because it's one of those weird esoteric games that wouldn't exist otherwise.
Indeed, just go on by and keep consuming.
take your meds
>Caring about responses of morons
Why would you stop talking about games you like because other people shit on it?
>EGS
ESG
I liked it way better than the first one, but it all depends if you're able to get into the story. It's like a 20 game where sometimes you can go an hour without fighting an enemy. The gameplay is better, but it's still a vastly inferior clone of nu Resident Evils
Both characters have distinct upgrade systems, weapons hidden behind puzzles and unique gimmicks but there's not that much combat to begin with
If you don't like the story you'll not last until the end credits
Sequel to a fairly niche game that not many people played. Also I think the marketing was extremely flaccid. Game just flew under the radar for most people until it won all those prizes at game awards and people were extremely confused because they had never heard of it.
ESG and EGS
>no physical
>full price
>not on Steam
I'll play it when it's out.
>full price
One of the major things in their marketing strategy was that AW2 is not AAA full price, "only" being 50 bucks at base.
That's full price. Discount price is 30 or less.
I'm not budging on my principles, just because they want to boil me like a frog
>Nuhhhhh inflation!
I don't care.
This is a game to wait on the discounts for. Unfortunately it may be a while if they are holding out for the Steam release.
I'd buy it on Playstation, but it's pricy on there too.
Game was good. You only hate it because of EGS or scary black woman.
>You only hate it because of EGS or scary black woman
Correct.
desu, the new Alone in the Dark kind of looks better. I might just play that instead.
I don't agree with the sentiment that it has better gameplay. They just made it play like every other game.
The flashlight focused aiming might not be ground breaking, but it at least gave the first game an identity.
Wake.
Alan Wake.
I'm ddrroowwnniinngg.
I just didn't see a point in playing the game due to its heavy cinematics. I enjoyed watching the game on Youtube but I would never play it. That's a dev issue, not my problem.
It doesn't feel like a sequel to Alan Wake. It tells a story that takes place after the end of AW but in the end advances Alan's story in no way and he's left where he started and none of the other characters in AW advance either, cause they're mostly not in it.
Tor and Odin get a granddaughter and wade into the Dark Place to play rock and roll forever and Mr Scratch fricking dies so that's some big changes for them
Honestly their trailers and ads made it seem you play as a black women, so go woke go broke?
Story and atmosphere is pretty much 11/10 and there's not much like it because not only is it a AAA ego project which is rare but it's an ego project which tries to be David Lynch on steroids of all things and for the most part succeeds.
As for the gameplay, the most important part of a video game obviously, it sadly only gets like a 6/10 from me. I was very close to getting the platinum at 88% but stopped because of how aggravating it could be at times and plus it's a 20 hour game which I didn't want to trudge through again.
The presentation was cool for about 10 hours but the shallow gameplay and overrated writing/story were not enough to carry me through. I might finish it this Halloween season but as someone who was open minded about it I thought it was just ok
It's good, GOTY 2023 for me.
Saga gets shit on a lot, and I think it's largely because she has the worst parts of the game all concentrated on her. The detective board thing she can do is basically a total waste of time outside of one sequence toward the end, and the game expects you to place photos on that board way too often. Progression shouldn't have been gated behind it at all if the mechanics of the board were going to be so half-baked.
Combat is an okay copypasta of RE, but the flashlight was much better in AW1. It's a pain in the ass to flashlight the weakspot on enemies sometimes, and running out of juice because enemies dodge at the last second is fricking stupid
