They tried to force an e-sport. Never force an e-sport. If your game is good and well beloved, people will make it into an e-sport for you. If you do this absurd shit where the entire game is autistically overtuned with constant balance patches so you never want to commit to learning to play a character because they may as well be completely different next fricking patch, people just aren't going to want to play it in a general sense. The worst part is that they kept insisting it was a casual game at the same time, the design of the game was just so fricking schizophrenic, because they were constantly pulled in two directions: desperately trying to appease the competitive crowd, and trying as hard as possible to keep ahold of their casual crowd.
So now instead of being the hero-shooter that had the potential to beat TF2, OW's enduring legacy will only be of source filmmaker videos of dva and mei fricking dogs.
