it's just another Nintendo Switch copycat. Not need a screen, Not need physical controller, just video output and support for wireless controllers of xbox/playstation/Switch
those devices are neat. i had one of the previous ones, but yeah, unless you REALLY cant take a regular laptop with you and MUST have a small device, its just not really worth it.
I use it as a webcam for a 3d printer now, the most overpriced solution ever. the decks bigger yet more comfy then carrying one of the gpds ( even if i was rich id have one of each just because ).
also when i went to look up what one i had the fricking PRODUCT PAGE HEADER IS COMIC SANS AHHHHHHHHHHHH

>This is true. And quite frankly, this is enough of a negative to make it pale in comparison to what we're seeing come out now.
I'd agree with you if any of the new stuff coming out had trackpads, they really make a large difference when trying to run games that aren't built for controller, and I think running controller games only and using a control stick on desktop might actually be more limiting than linux even is.
trackpads are better, but mouse emulation is more workable than you would think. Most people don't care much about trackpads because the games they want to play are made for controllers anyway. The deck is very...for want of a better word...comfy for point and click games and RTS, so I am not going to complain about trackpads, but they probably aren't as sought after as you might think they are.
Average joe will look at the loki max running elden ring for 3 hours on ultra and forget all about wanting to play warcraft
True, at first I thought it’s useless but for strategy games obviously made for a large pc monitor where you need to be precise, it’s basically the only way to play.

compatibility makes games run like shit
Bullshit. The only games that don't run on Linux are ones that aren't worth a damn (Fortnite, Destiny 2). Every other game (especially single-player) will run. Granted, you MIGHT have to do some "tweaks" to get it to work, but once you've done that there is no issues and the performance overhead is better if not on par with Windows.
>because Destiny 2 actually has a Linux version but the devs refuse to release it.
...So in other words, Destiny 2 doesn't run on the Deck/Linux currently.
(Yes, yes, technically it has a Linux version. But Bungle won't ever release it because they're lazy bastards)

>Giant, bulky and uncomfortable to hold
I'm a 5'7 manlet with little hands and I find it comfy as hell to hold. The shape of the grips isn't quite as comfortable as a dedicated controller but I've had no issues with cramping or otherwise feeling uncomfortable after several hours. Also goes without saying but it's leagues more comfortable than my Switch but that's no shock when the joycons are so thin and square. The weight isn't even a problem after extended periods of time and honestly, the fact that it's so wide likely makes it feel more comfortable in some regards because my arms stay relatively straight forward instead of having to twist them inward to grip a controller (part of why I actually enjoyed the wiimote+joycon setup to a degree because I could just have my arms wherever I wanted them instead of having to hold my hands in my lap. I legit don't get how people think it's that bulky and uncomfortable.
>90 minute battery life
Entirely game dependent. I get anywhere from 5hrs-2hrs depending on the game. Basic 2d games like Broforce run forever. >Linux compatibility makes games run like shit
The absolutely crazy thing is that I haven't noticed or really thought about SteamOS. It honestly just works. I had no idea how far WINE had come. It's so good. I haven't encountered any games in my library that I can't play. >Giant, bulky and uncomfortable to hold
This is another absolutely surprising thing. It's not. It's really fricking not. I know in the screenshots it looks like this fat heavy monstrosity, but it's actually super light and feels pretty great in the hand. It literally feels like a comfy controller with a big ass screen in the middle.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the sleep function. It's incredible. Hit the button and the entire deck shuts down within 5 seconds. Hit again and the deck wakes up within 5 secs exactly the same as when it went to sleep. It's function great.

What went wrong is that it was made by known scammers who commit false advertising and fraud who should have honored their existing word to the community before making a handheld.
Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.
It's main selling point is portability and it sucks at doing just that
Far too heavy and bulky while also having terrible battery life lasting you 2 hours on average
But sure, play at 5 fps and min brightness, then you might be able to have it last for 3 hours...
Seriously what a fricking joke
>you don't understand >it NEEDS to be the exact same price >it NEEDS to play Elden Ring >it NEEDS to play it for the exact same amount of time
just get a laptop, dummy. Elden Ring is shit portable, and that's why nobody on these threads talks about it on the deck.
Yeah man, just don't look at those handhelds being released in like 3 months time that are RDNA2, Zen3+ monsters that clock in at half the size and weight...
Not him, but you set an incredibly specific criterium for what would make it "the best". Neither OP nor anon's two replies mentioned anything about "the best."
his criticism is that Steam Deck has shit battery, but then fails to mention that that's only because it can play modern pc games. so I challenged him to name another handheld that can play elden ring (random modern game) for 2 hours and he couldn't. which means his criticism about steam deck's battery is bullshit.

The criticism is valid.
Deck's not necessarily good at something just because it's the only thing that does it.

that's not even true. there are other handhelds out there and Steam Deck is the only one that can play modern games for 2 hours at $400. it can also play less demanding games and last 8 hours.
>feels so great to play, i end up spending way too much time gaming because i can't put it down >no other controller can compare to the perfected pad setup built into the deck, making it difficult to play games on consoles or controller based games on my main pc >has made many of my other devices redundant, so my house is full of e-waste collecting dust >everything runs so smoothly with zero issues, lowering my patience for errors on other computers >battery life
I dunno. I've been farting around these threads ever since I got mine and it feels like there's a decent amount of people on v trying to convince me that it's shitty hardware.
Never heard of the Loki Max. So I wouldn't claim anything in regards to it. Will Loki Max be able to utilize stuff like Emudeck, SteamOS, and Steam Input? All that shit is open source right?
Right now I'm happy with my deck because it's just easy to get things running on it and I love the UI.
> So I wouldn't claim anything in regards to it. Will Loki Max be able to utilize stuff like Emudeck, SteamOS, and Steam Input? All that shit is open source right?
Well, I am sure it would. You can install steamOS on it, if you want. All that stuff is open source, but with something like emudeck, you won;t need to, because emudeck is more of a workaround for installing things to steam UI.
I mean, it'll be a windows PC, so it will have playnite, which is superior by far to anything valve have set up for the deck.
>Right now I'm happy with my deck because it's just easy to get things running on it and I love the UI.
Good. As a guy who is into UMPCs, take my advice and stick with it unless you really want to have the best thing going. It is an expensive business.

Right. Because right now YOU are mad. About someone you don't know telling you that nobody is mad about a piece of consumer electronics. And quite possibly being wrong about that. Okay.
Well it sounds cool. I don't think I'll really bite for it as I'm really happy with my deck and the price point is a bit of a stretch for me, but it's great to see more of these handheld powerhouses coming into the fray.
Ultimately though, I'm just happy to have a handheld that can emulate up to the 7th generation of games, and seeing so many communities band around the hardware has been cool as hell. Just waiting for Linux releases of Vortex and Xenia at this point.
I am getting one because as an owner of an Ayn odin, I ended up getting the highest-level loki max cheaper than the deck, which is not a price to pass up, even if I am only going to sell it on. >7th gen
Yeah, that seems like a good stopping point. So many people end up getting a new device every six months and playing very little because the new one is juuust around the corner. >linux release of Xenia.
fricking yes. Playing Lost odyssey on the deck would be amazing. I am also hoping they will allow external HD libraries to remain on steam, too, as I have a great docked set up in mind.
Reading comprehension isn't your strong point, is it?
I am touched you want my attention, but it's not worth it. What games are you playing right now? At least keep it vidya

Yeah, brother, sounds like you are IN on these portable PCs. I think I'll avoid that for now for the sake of my wallet. Next hardware I really want to get is a big ass 4k OLED tv and/or a new desktop build. >Playing Lost odyssey on the deck would be amazing
Thiiiiis. The fact that I can play Last Story and all the FFs is great, but Lost Odyssey really feels like the missing piece of the Sakaguchi puzzle on this thing. Hoping Fantasian eventually comes off Apple Arcade as well.
The deck really has been too much fun though. I bought my gaming laptop with a i7/2060RTX back in like 2019 and honestly I never played much in the way of anything on the thing. It's only after getting a Steam Deck and seeing how shitty consoles are getting with this newest gen that I've been able to finally start moving over to the PC ecosystem proper. And it's fricking great. Really hoping Linux support continues to flourish, since I'm really fricking unhappy with how Windows has been aping more and more of MacOS.

I was, for a while, but I am getting out of it now. It's getting too expensive, and frankly, there aren't enough AAA games that are worth the effort now. Most of what I play can unironically be played on a hundred dollar laptop. That sounds comfy as hell, though.
I have to say, Linux has come a long way since I last tried using it, but it needs to become a lot more idiotproof to appeal to the common market, which is something that a lot of the old guard won't want to allow. But I am just glad you can get back into gaming, in whatever form.
Deck is most likely an net expense for Valve.
A main reason they're doing it is probably securing proper field testing of SteamOS.
Makes me wonder why they didn't just partner with GPD from the beginning, then. Offer to distribute with them. GPD gets noticed and a free OS, and valve doesn't have to do all the tech work. but whatever. We got a neat little gaming PC on the cheap, so frick it.

I think Valve burnt their fingers collaborating on the Steam Machines, and wanted to control the entire process this time around.

Maybe, but they are partnering with GPD to do this now. Seems weird that they wouldn't just do this from the start. the win max 2 is going to be promoted by valve.
Anonymous
Which likely have been secured as a much more favorable deal for Valve AFTER the Deck arrived as the talk of the town.
If they'd partnered from the start, it would look like Valve needed GPD and not the other way around.
Anonymous
I mean, maybe? But the deal seems favourable for both of them. That's not to say that valve won't make the same deal with AYN at some point, too, or AYA, or OneX.
Valve wants to be a loss leader and get their OS in people’s hands at a low price point. A GDP Deck would cost 2-3x.
I think that if GDP had partnered with valve to sort out the win max 2, it would have cost around 800 dollars, maybe 900. I think people would have paid that. But my point is that valve spent a LOT of money on the deck and a lot of time, just to be a loss leader for a year at most. And they're not going to be selling a ton of games to make up for this like Nintendo might. Hm.
Anonymous
Point is that a deal is only favorable to both at this point now.
Before people knew what Deck was, it would not have been good business for Valve to shack up with GPD.
Anonymous
I disagree. I think that valve has a good enough name that just having them show off their new OS with all this fancy new shit would be good enough, but they might have wanted to avoid another "steam machines" debacle. Plus, Steam and China has a very rocky history, and they're one step away from getting banhammered utterly there, so perhaps it would be unwise of them to make the deal without their own machine?
>All it took was some shitty valve shit for pc fats to eat up console shit

Whether or not it would've made sense to work with someone else to begin with, they decided against it.
And now they are widely recognized as having put out the best cost/power offer to the users in a handheld PC, and the SteamOS usage data they collect through Deck is entirely their own.
They are in a very good spot for negotiating new partnerships.
Anonymous
Well, they wasted a lot of money on it, and the data they collected is functionally useless. Cost them a lot to swing their knob around in a market that contains four companies, all based out of the same sheds in Shenzhen, but okay.

On paper the Loki Max has a 50% faster igpu (12 vs 8 compute units in the deck), but its also running a 1920x1080 screen and costs twice as much as Steam Deck, so that extra performance might as well not exist. If you don't mind the Decks 800p screen, its still going to be a much better purchase...
>pay the premium for 1920x1080p screen and more processing power >set games to 1280x800 and only use half of the screen and gpu that you paid 400 extra for
absolute wanna be smart moron
Black person, I am running my deck at 3 watts and a third of the GPU to play ace attorney games. You play how you want, and with greater power comes more options. You lost this one, bruh
I can tell you the loki max wouldn’t be in consideration for me simply because of the trackpads.
Claiming that it’s objectively better than the Steam Deck is just wrong, that to some people is a killer feature why the steam deck will be preferable
if i want to emulate some stuff (i'm thinking retro consoles pre-3d, entire libraries) what's the best way of doing that? emudeck? does that add all the games to steam collections too?
Emudeck will also give you Steam Rom Manager which yes, will make collections as you see them in the photo you responded to and throw each emulated title as a standalone tile in the non-steam games tab. It's fricking easy. Here's the video guide I followed. It covers most things you'll need to know.
This. The amount of money they conjure out of thin air with their gamepass shit is probably making them an order of magnitude more money than the deck ever could.
I can’t wait to get mine. Should be ready anytime now. I feel sorry for Trannies like you who spent all their money on HRT and dilaters and can’t afford one now.
Do you all seriously only play the latest AAA games on a handheld? I get 4-6 hours out of my deck depending on the game, paired with a portable charger I can get 12-15 hours for long journeys.
Instead of playing Elden Ring at 30fps 2 hours use your fricking brain and play DaS1/2/3.
>Do you all seriously only play the latest AAA games on a handheld?
don't you know tht Ganker can't enjoy a game unless all settings are at MAXIMUM POWA with 4k and x 8MSAA enabled?
they unironically consider AMD 6900XT and the 3090Ti to be a mid-range card.
The problem is PC gamers have the wrong cost function in their head when they approach a handheld optimization problem. They put the entire emphasis on raw performance and Valve lets you crank the performance up to the detriment of the battery life. Meanwhile, something like the Switch will baby you and control the TDP without you having the option to max out power delivery.
Valve needs to probably do a better job highlighting older games, especially around the 7th gen, because that’s where the Deck really shines.
I enjoy mine, my only feedback is that they need to rework their approach to the “Great on Deck” filter. I’ve come across green games that have issues, for example Alan Wake has weird graphical artifacts that make it unplayable. At the same time, most yellow games work flawlessly. They’re overly strict on the mouse requirements. You can always set your filters to include both, but I wish the yellow category was more informative.
When is the right time to order one of these? I decided I want one when it was announced but on principle I never buy hardware when it is still hot out of the factory or heaven forbid, preorder it. And which model?
The writing is consistently good throughout the entire game without sacrificing production value or graphics. The only games that can match or beat it in that department aren't big budget blockbuster games
Who cares if the writing is good if the story itself is not interesting? You spend half the game looking for yennefer, and the other half looking for your daughter. It literally feels like nothing ever happens
i like the deck quite a bit as a stupid little toy, i find more fun in seeing what i can install on it than actually playing anything
but seeing as they're worth literally double the price on ebay i'm thinking about selling it and just buying a gen2 later
i have a desktop so the deck is purely secondary for me
thoughts?
My girlfriend doesn't like going to bed alone, so the thing is a pretty fricking great thing to take to bed and play more or less anything I'm currently interested in at the moment.
You don't understand.
That you use it while holding the entire thing in your hands doesn't make it a handheld by itself.
It has to live up to certain unspoken and unwritten criteria!
I've recently realized that there's realistically almost no situation where I'd want to have a steam deck with me. >lying in bed, I'll use my phone controller to stream games from my main PC with moonlight >during a commute, I'll play emulators or use steam link >being away from home for a long while, I'll bring my PS4 slim along for gaming, every hotel or airbnb has a decent TV anyways, and I still have emulators on my phone
I guess it'd be nice during a very long flight, but there are plenty of games I could be playing on emulators on my phone during that time, and I wouldn't have to lug around a huge thing like the steam deck. It's just not that appealing unless you don't need more and you can replace your PC with it.
Theres just no real reason to use it if you already have a dedicated PC. >But what if you wanted to play in bed
I go to bed to sleep, not play games >What if you want to play it on the toilet
It only takes me 1m to shit. >What if you want to play it outdoors
I go outside to get away from games and enjoy the outdoors.
I don't want to be stuck in my room hunched over a keyboard when I game. Especially not in winter. Besides, I will only use the PC for demanding games. My steam deck will be my dedicated indie machine.
Being able to easily play M&KB games in a handheld form isn't being talked about enough. I can even play games that use every single key on the keyboard like 80s Ultima thanks to the 24 hotkeys you can assign across the two touchpads
To be fair Valve has always been clear they wanted third party hardware developers to move to linux, and are very willing to help them set up SteamOS as an alternative to Windows. That was the whole point of Steam Machines but it ultimately failed there's no incentive for hardware makers to do it at a reasonable price point to be successful.
Now with Steam Deck on the block, there is. It's a clear message to hardware developers, build your hardware cheaper or watch Steam Deck gobble up all the market share.
Personally, I hope the likes of GPD or whatever really start giving a shit and start competing with Steam Deck on both spec and pricing.

Just ordered it yesterday. Delivery sometime in October. I got the top model. Really just want to play portal, and half life. Not really going to play any new games. Mylibrary is from 2007-2012 or so. Last game I purchased on steam was some game about exploring a forrest.
Jesus it has been released for more than half a year. If you don't think it's for you just don't buy it why do you make a thread complaining about it every few hours?
I bought it because >I want to play it while laying on my bed >Play games while waiting for my experiments to run >I can actually plug it in my lab monitor to code and write report in fricking Linux, and it's lighter than my laptop >No bloated windows shit >I can play it while I'm on the train, on the plane, or in the passenger seat in a road trip >Can play 2018-2020 games decently to well (Sekiro runs really smooth) >Is cheap as frick
I get what I want and I'm happy with it.
If you have a PC and don't want to play games outside of it? Don't buy it Jesus.
Why is it so hard to understand that the device is not for you?
I think the only thing wrong with this whole thing has nothing to do with the device itself, but with Valve's inability to scale up the production.
It seems like they are content with selling 100k-200k device a year max.
But what's the point then?
I feel like half of the people shitting on it are actually deckgays falsflagging as Nintendogays because they can't be that dumb, and the other half are chink shills.

also found out there's a bug with layers where it's supposed to show you a notification when you change action layer, but that shit just outright never works for some reason. and the sound it plays when you change action layer is barely fricking audible either. wish you could customise that better
its a novelty like the switch without anything to really sell it? not only that its a crapshoot what is supported and how long it will be supported for. you can grab a cheap laptop with like a 3050 and dock it and use it as a main computer. this is made for video games and emulators on the go with like 1.5+ hour battery.
It's a decent laptop but I mean it's not comparable to the Deck at all? >Heavier >No controller >No gyro >Can play on your bed and doesn't need a mouse
I mean if you want a gaming laptop go for it (or you can also buy stronger ones with higher prices).
But if you specifically want a handheld that can play PC games I don't see why the Deck is not a good option?
The only legit complaint about the Deck (compared to a gaming laptop) is smaller screen, but if you are fine with handheld gaming it's not a problem to begin with.
>The only legit complaint about the Deck (compared to a gaming laptop) is smaller screen, but if you are fine with handheld gaming it's not a problem to begin with.
that complaint goes away when you can hook it up to most larger displays
my argument was that the steam deck is a limited toy, while its being updated and worked on. theres obviously some pros if you want an emulation and some modern AAA games but overall its going to get out of date quick and already people are waiting for the revision to fix some of its problems. the larger screen isnt a problem because you can dock it. i just dont want it to end up as ewaste in someones house in 5 months but i guess this laptop would as well.
Yeah at this point only a moderate-high end PC can age more than 5 years nowadays.
The good news is that games are getting less demanding because older console generations are holding them back.
But I really don't expect the Deck to play the latest AAA games in 2023 or 2024 at all.
Is it even worth playing FF7 if you already know all of the twists in the story?
I play every FF from 6 to 13 except 7 because when I was a kid we only had one computer and my brother played all by himself while I was only allowed to watch.
lad why are you spamming it? have you tried holding the button down? have you tried plugging it in then trying to turn it on? have you tried a reset (check the manual)
It's not his video. It's just some moronic homosexual thats baiting you. That video was made by a mongoloid who doesn't understand how electronics work either.
Are there really people still complaining about not enough games to play on the system? Seems nonsensical to me given the numbers for even just verified games let alone both combined.
Dissappointed to see that not even those trackpads help handhelds when it comes to fps games. I just installed black mesa on the deck, it all runs well but damn it's too hard to aim properly on higher difficulties especially when the AI keeps running around. Luckily classic doom works just perfect as there's only lateral view.
What if their plan is to make Deck successful enough so that when they release Deck 3.0 they will also release HL3 along with it?
The game would takes full use of the gyro, the track pad and the 10 L/R buttons to make some innovative gameplay shit.
>Start game download >Game finally downloads, launch it >Compiling Vulkan shaders >Shaders finalized compiled, get into game >Battery dies
Top quality amerimutt hardware.
It's for the 15 minutes it works.
I just bought mine, it should be shipped soon (?). I was conflicted before clicking the payment because it's a crazy cool device that has zero practical use for me >commuting to work by car, so no playing in bus >work is kinda fun honestly, no need for a portable gaming device there >maybe gonna use deck on trips? trips are for trip purposes though >bedside console sounds nice, but proves unhealthy most of the time >for every other purpose, PC is just plain superior
i think i've paid for it because i really, really, really wanted HTC Shift when i was in middle school, kind of making up for the unfulfilled dream of a portable x86 pc. eh, gonna replay some oldies at least, should be fun
Even if you never leave the house the deck is still really cool. Playing anywhere you want, especially big impressive looking games, is extremely comfy.
Too low initial production. Difficult to avoid during a component shortage. Things are looking better now. At the end of July I was even allowed to put a Steam Deck reservation on my Steam wishlist here in Norway.
i dont use mine at all
i take it to work everyday but i play controller games on my macbook instead
im glad i have it but i dont know what to use it for. the honeymoon period ended a while ago
good few of the games I am trying to install give error default engine .ini not found, tried bottles, wine, installing on windows and copying files over, multiple downloads, any hints? feel like a moron trying to use linux
same error whether installing and transferring, installing using bottles/wine/proton and using different downloads? you really think it's an issue with it being transferred?
Can you find the engine.ini inside the specific game folder? If it isn't there make one and verify the game, that might work.

And looking at that error it looks more like a path issue, it can't find that my documents sub directory.
this is linux we are apeaking about here, I haven't got a clue how to do anything, made sure to install and confirm it ran on windows, then those same files wont work through proton, there are no files installed to my documents when installing on windows, not sure what it's looking for in the compdata folder

Unironically post this in steam deck discussions on Steam.
the installer i'm trying to use is in japanese and the characters aren't displaying. i can get it to boot the installer but it errors out when i try to navigate folders
There is no point in getting it when I have a PC that can do everything and I work from home so there's no sort of commuting time where I'd ever need something
>tried pirating game for about a week, nothing working >cave in and buy steam key on cdkeys >still pending almost 12 hours later
I just want to play comfy early 2010s games
>be a moron for a week straight (new pr) >do my daily donation to the jude >the israelites frick me again >mfw
i just want to play games from right before gaming peaked
jokes aside what game was it? i cant imagine a game from 2010 wouldnt work especially if it was a pirated version
FRICK, no wonder everythings so small, my screens set to 4k on this silly 14 inch laptop. god damn i cant believe it took till now to notice it, i thought i was going blind
actually just imaginary project ideas if i decide to commit to learning programming, and a question/shitpost i was gonna ask /k/ i wanted to make sure i didnt forget overnight
Does proton have good nvidia support?
I just want to use Linux for my PC and ditch windows altogether. But my PC has an nvidia card so I'm not sure how well proton supports it.
They're literally the same drivers as on Windows.
Its just they're so much shittier than the open source AMD drivers you realize how bad they really are.
I'd still keep a Windows install on hand because certain games are broken because of nvidia. But i haven't really had an issue with the 100 or so games I've tested on Linux such as Doom eternal.
Valve isn't trying to go to war with nintendo so they'll finally be forced to stop being shit and go 3rd party. I want to see this thing advertised everywhere and in retailers.
Loved the steam deck, tried it out for a little while. Unfortunately I just don't have enough use for a portable gaming system to make it worth the money so I ended up returning it.
It's not a lightweight 4k headset + a new input innovation that's superior to both controllers and m+kb for seated gaming and gaming in bed / on sofas, etc. The headset wouldn't even have to be stereoscopic, wireless, or enclosed, it should just be as lightweight as possible.
most people think this cost only $5 USD, because the 5 USD is just reserving a queue line. People are so tired of waiting; and the Deck is not available to order in many countries, any country outside of USA because for Steam, USA is the only country of the world.
2018-202X is full of examples of Switch copycats that have failed to live up their own hype
uh, sure, but apparently android os's are inherently flawed, and have input latency. its why even if you use a wired controller to play emulators and shit it feels off. your better off playing any alternate version of the games you want, if it exists.
please stop we have these threads 4x an hour
Yeah, we need MORE twitter screenshots and entire threads because a random dude wrote something in twitter
it's just another Nintendo Switch copycat. Not need a screen, Not need physical controller, just video output and support for wireless controllers of xbox/playstation/Switch
>it's just another Nintendo Switch copycat
'ick on 'eck
Nothing. It got my brother who doesn't game played hours of Bastion on it. He mainly bought it as a mobile pc and emu machine for my niece.
Nothing? Its the best portable ive ever owned.
Admittedly nothing at all. I sold my gpd win max 2021 within a week of getting this because it's so fricking good, and for the price it's phenomenal.
Just a shame that its time in the sun will be so short, I just hope that people that get this don't get into UMPCs and stick with this.
those devices are neat. i had one of the previous ones, but yeah, unless you REALLY cant take a regular laptop with you and MUST have a small device, its just not really worth it.
>90 minute battery life
>Linux compatibility makes games run like shit
>Giant, bulky and uncomfortable to hold
>90 minute battery life
Only in the most extreme circumstances. I am playing FFXV right now (yes, it's shit) and getting about 2 and a half hours
>Linux compatibility makes games run like shit
Not really, no. I haven't come across a single game I cannot get to run on it, and I am the blackest moron Black person gorilla (white)you have ever seen
>Giant, bulky and uncomfortable to hold
This is true. And quite frankly, this is enough of a negative to make it pale in comparison to what we're seeing come out now.
Also because the touchscreen is shit
>Muh battery life
>Muh space
Stop playing AAA games like morons and play other stuff in your library and use the battery settings and you'll gain much more
compatibility makes games run like shit
Actually only Fortnite applies now, because Destiny 2 actually has a Linux version but the devs refuse to release it.
>because Destiny 2 actually has a Linux version but the devs refuse to release it.
...So in other words, Destiny 2 doesn't run on the Deck/Linux currently.
Nothing.
wait... decks don't come in pink. Must be a paint job?
it's evidently some kind of plastic or rubber shell, just look at the trigger area
Can't seem to manufacture them fast enough for selling at the price they want to guarantee.
I can play Mental Queer Reiching when I'm shitting so nothing
How do you people manage to shit for longer than 2 or 3 minutes? Do Americans have some weird gastrointestinal problems or something?
>Do Americans have some weird gastrointestinal problems or something?
DO THEY FRICKING EVER
It's an entire fricking industry in the US treating that shit, as well as NOT treating it, and just selling people some more paracetamol in funky wrappers.
Really? That's a shame. But what's the cause of it? Seems like their diets would create greasy than normal stool..
High-fructose corn syrup is one of the main culprits, but the US has a somewhat general problem with their processed foods and fastfood containing unreasonable amounts of specialized salts, sugars, fats, and acids.
Have you ever eaten from tacobell?
yeah, a lot of times, it happen i´m not a homosexual with weak entrails, not mexican, i´m just not a porcelain homosexual, i can shit on 2/3 minutes max because i dont spend my life eating suggary and oversaturated crap.
>Artifact fanbase
??????
At this point I'm sure it's a shill
>still upset about Artifact
You're also still upset about Space Base DF9, right?
So they pissed off all 2 of them?
Oh no!
Anyway... Magic will be on Steam soon, so shArtifcat is over party soon.
Short supply and poor build quality and QA, same mistakes they did with Index
It's main selling point is portability and it sucks at doing just that
Far too heavy and bulky while also having terrible battery life lasting you 2 hours on average
But sure, play at 5 fps and min brightness, then you might be able to have it last for 3 hours...
Seriously what a fricking joke
can you show me another portable at that same price that can play elden ring for 2 hours?
>you don't understand
>it NEEDS to be the exact same price
>it NEEDS to play Elden Ring
>it NEEDS to play it for the exact same amount of time
just get a laptop, dummy. Elden Ring is shit portable, and that's why nobody on these threads talks about it on the deck.
you literally just conceded that Steam Deck is the best handheld at its price point lol.
Yeah man, just don't look at those handhelds being released in like 3 months time that are RDNA2, Zen3+ monsters that clock in at half the size and weight...
You got a link for one? Sounds neato
just look up the ayn loki or the aya neo stuff.
That's nice.
>just get a laptop, dummy
laptops are worse at everything you complained about
>feels so great to play, i end up spending way too much time gaming because i can't put it down
>no other controller can compare to the perfected pad setup built into the deck, making it difficult to play games on consoles or controller based games on my main pc
>has made many of my other devices redundant, so my house is full of e-waste collecting dust
>everything runs so smoothly with zero issues, lowering my patience for errors on other computers
>battery life
10/10 it's ok
Turn the deck into a controller on your pc
Use the deck screen as a minimap or auxillary screen
Oh wait this sounds like an overpowered WII U kek
Why does the deck make so many people upset?
I love mine.
It doesn't. But insisting that others are upset is the only way that Deck owners can make Ganker talk about it.
I dunno. I've been farting around these threads ever since I got mine and it feels like there's a decent amount of people on v trying to convince me that it's shitty hardware.
Why would they have to be upset to be of the olinion that the hardware is bad?
Nobody's mad. But claiming this is gonna be better than something like the loki max is dumb as frick.
I take it back. You, at least, are mad.
Yeah, you will take it back, you prissy little gaslighting homosexual.
>he didn't even post a deck
malding third-worlder detected.
Why the frick do I need to post a picture of my deck to point out that you're lying that no one is mad? Stick to the crux of you argument you baboon. Now give me my you.
608481746
yeah nice one
I think you might have a point there. I can't imagine how hard this kid is REEEEing over the fact that a guy who is lukewarm on it has a deck while he is sitting in his shack in Bogota, deckless.
Well, no. I'm not lukewarm. It's great. But these threads would be a lot better if people stopped screaming about how it's the best at this and the best at that.
I don't give a frick about other people's opinions on something I already own and there are plenty of things to criticise the deck over. I care that some moron is parroting blatant falsehoods like "no one is mad" on fricking Ganker of all places where someone is always mad about something.
>I give a frick about people being mad on Ganker
You shouldn't. You'll live longer. Go play games.
Reading comprehension isn't your strong point, is it?
>I care that some moron is parroting blatant falsehoods like "no one is mad" on fricking Ganker of all places where someone is always mad about something.
Makes me wonder why they didn't just partner with GPD from the beginning, then. Offer to distribute with them. GPD gets noticed and a free OS, and valve doesn't have to do all the tech work. but whatever. We got a neat little gaming PC on the cheap, so frick it.
>Makes me wonder why they didn't just partner with GPD
Because GPD would steal the shit out of valve tech
well, there wouldn't be any valve tech. They'd just be focusing on steamOS, and letting GPD handle the tech side of things.
>Ahh yes ret us send our assoriates orer for "corroboration" with your esteemed engineers
>Makes me wonder why they didn't just partner with GPD
I think Valve burnt their fingers collaborating on the Steam Machines, and wanted to control the entire process this time around.
Maybe, but they are partnering with GPD to do this now. Seems weird that they wouldn't just do this from the start. the win max 2 is going to be promoted by valve.
Which likely have been secured as a much more favorable deal for Valve AFTER the Deck arrived as the talk of the town.
If they'd partnered from the start, it would look like Valve needed GPD and not the other way around.
I mean, maybe? But the deal seems favourable for both of them. That's not to say that valve won't make the same deal with AYN at some point, too, or AYA, or OneX.
Hm.
Point is that a deal is only favorable to both at this point now.
Before people knew what Deck was, it would not have been good business for Valve to shack up with GPD.
I disagree. I think that valve has a good enough name that just having them show off their new OS with all this fancy new shit would be good enough, but they might have wanted to avoid another "steam machines" debacle. Plus, Steam and China has a very rocky history, and they're one step away from getting banhammered utterly there, so perhaps it would be unwise of them to make the deal without their own machine?
>all it took was a cheap gaming handheld sold at cost to make pirates pirate shit on their new piracy machine
kek yeah
Whether or not it would've made sense to work with someone else to begin with, they decided against it.
And now they are widely recognized as having put out the best cost/power offer to the users in a handheld PC, and the SteamOS usage data they collect through Deck is entirely their own.
They are in a very good spot for negotiating new partnerships.
Well, they wasted a lot of money on it, and the data they collected is functionally useless. Cost them a lot to swing their knob around in a market that contains four companies, all based out of the same sheds in Shenzhen, but okay.
Valve wants to be a loss leader and get their OS in people’s hands at a low price point. A GDP Deck would cost 2-3x.
>Nobody's mad
There's enough evidence to the contrary that I think it justifies calling you a moronic Black person, you moronic Black person.
On paper the Loki Max has a 50% faster igpu (12 vs 8 compute units in the deck), but its also running a 1920x1080 screen and costs twice as much as Steam Deck, so that extra performance might as well not exist. If you don't mind the Decks 800p screen, its still going to be a much better purchase...
>set games to 1280x800
wow so hard
>pay the premium for 1920x1080p screen and more processing power
>set games to 1280x800 and only use half of the screen and gpu that you paid 400 extra for
absolute wanna be smart moron
>more choice is baaaaaad
Black person, I am running my deck at 3 watts and a third of the GPU to play ace attorney games. You play how you want, and with greater power comes more options. You lost this one, bruh
Running lower res than native res always looks shitty on LCD panels though.
And it'll cost $775
I can tell you the loki max wouldn’t be in consideration for me simply because of the trackpads.
Claiming that it’s objectively better than the Steam Deck is just wrong, that to some people is a killer feature why the steam deck will be preferable
fellow Gankerx user, and deck player.
It upsets the bigwigs at microsoft
Microsoft is unlikely to give any of two shits about Deck.
Yeah that's why their shills are here every day, because it doesn't upset them in the slightest, thanks for the input Rajmeet
You aren't making any sense anon.
meds.
It upsets Toddlers because it does the Shitch games that are worth a damn better than Shitch.
Isn't Switch emu still runs like shit on Deck? Or is that old news?
Old news for the most part. It's still in development, obviously so optimization(s) are going to be hit/miss for a while.
what game?
xenoblade chronicles x by the looks of it
Because I don't have one yet.
My biggest issue is it plays too much.
if i want to emulate some stuff (i'm thinking retro consoles pre-3d, entire libraries) what's the best way of doing that? emudeck? does that add all the games to steam collections too?
Emudeck will also give you Steam Rom Manager which yes, will make collections as you see them in the photo you responded to and throw each emulated title as a standalone tile in the non-steam games tab. It's fricking easy. Here's the video guide I followed. It covers most things you'll need to know.
A braindead monkey can figure it out.
>t. braindead monkey.
thanks anon
can it install torrented games?
i set up a torrented copy of breath of the wild on cemu the other night. it runs great.
of course
it's a fricking pc
The battery life is absolutely atrocious... everything else is pretty comfy.
update 3.3 and not having an oled screen
that's literally it
has any valve autist come up with a replacement oled yet?
Too big.
So how long until microsoft releases their own version?
I think between the Xbox and Surface they don't need to do another tiny PC.
This. The amount of money they conjure out of thin air with their gamepass shit is probably making them an order of magnitude more money than the deck ever could.
Deck is most likely an net expense for Valve.
A main reason they're doing it is probably securing proper field testing of SteamOS.
Vocal minority of asshats
Don’t you know they the majority of Ganker doesn’t even play video games to begin with?
why is that though? are they all coomers who watch trash animu and play coomberbait shit?
The problem is PC gamers have the wrong cost function in their head when they approach a handheld optimization problem. They put the entire emphasis on raw performance and Valve lets you crank the performance up to the detriment of the battery life. Meanwhile, something like the Switch will baby you and control the TDP without you having the option to max out power delivery.
Valve needs to probably do a better job highlighting older games, especially around the 7th gen, because that’s where the Deck really shines.
What if I don't want to play DaS1/2/3? I want to play Elden Ring.
Deck is just a piece of crap.
>DaS1/2/3.
Did they ever fix the servers? Frick no.
Can't buy it anywhere
540p kek
why do people love that shitty game so much
it's like the netflix version of what an rpg is supposed to be
It's a troony Bethesda sandbox, make up your own shit role playing game.
You are role playing Geralt, not a make-your-own character.
i just don't know why action/adventure games are being called rpgs now
Because the average gamer nowadays has no imagination. Thus, they can't do the whole role play part of an rpg and need to be told what to do.
The writing is consistently good throughout the entire game without sacrificing production value or graphics. The only games that can match or beat it in that department aren't big budget blockbuster games
Writing is GoT-tier at best
Who cares if the writing is good if the story itself is not interesting? You spend half the game looking for yennefer, and the other half looking for your daughter. It literally feels like nothing ever happens
Damn does it really run at the same resolution as the switch version?
Mine literally runs at 30 fps on ultra for all settings and 60 for medium.
What the frick is this video talking about?
i like the deck quite a bit as a stupid little toy, i find more fun in seeing what i can install on it than actually playing anything
but seeing as they're worth literally double the price on ebay i'm thinking about selling it and just buying a gen2 later
i have a desktop so the deck is purely secondary for me
thoughts?
My girlfriend doesn't like going to bed alone, so the thing is a pretty fricking great thing to take to bed and play more or less anything I'm currently interested in at the moment.
Too big
No reason not to play games on my tower PC in a higher refreshrate and resolution
my heart goes out to all adult males with baby hands
Okay anon
It's not a handheld. Just like Switch.
handheld gaming is a meme, anon
The screens are comparable. The switch has uncomfortably small grips.
That at least can be remedied fairly cheaply.
I was looking at getting the HORI pair, but the lack of rumble and gyro put me off. Which manufacturer doesn’t cut corners?
That's a tough question.
I don't personally use rumble, and the gyro aiming in most Switch games sucks, so it's not an issue for me personally.
There's gyro in the system itself as well, so games that use it in a more integrated manner doesn't suffer from the omission.
deck vs switch is also like comparing a smartphone to an mp3 player
or well, a computer to a console
Also like comparing a five year old ARM chipset to a current x86 chipset of twice the motherboard size.
>It's not a handheld.
cool story bro.
You don't understand.
That you use it while holding the entire thing in your hands doesn't make it a handheld by itself.
It has to live up to certain unspoken and unwritten criteria!
literally nothing
I love my Switch Pro.
>been playing FFXII and Battlefront 2 (2005) during lunch breaks
>Sekiro while taking a shit
absolutely nothing I fricking love my deck
i too have been playing BF2 2005, it was the first game i loaded up for some reason and it's incredibly comfy on the deck
but please make sure you watch those wrist rockets
>what went wrong
/v/irgins can't into Ganker. as long as you can operate a PC, it's literally perfect.
The battery lasts 3 hours.
It thermal throttles in modern games.
No hall effect sticks.
>All it took was some shitty valve shit for pc fats to eat up console shit
Valve’s hardware ventures have been very niche.
Too hueg. Asians won't be buying that any time soon.
I've recently realized that there's realistically almost no situation where I'd want to have a steam deck with me.
>lying in bed, I'll use my phone controller to stream games from my main PC with moonlight
>during a commute, I'll play emulators or use steam link
>being away from home for a long while, I'll bring my PS4 slim along for gaming, every hotel or airbnb has a decent TV anyways, and I still have emulators on my phone
I go to bed to sleep, not play games
>What if you want to play it on the toilet
It only takes me 1m to shit.
>What if you want to play it outdoors
I go outside to get away from games and enjoy the outdoors.
>ye old "let me tell you why you don't need that" meme
So you're admitting you have a gaming addition?
haha
>just because I don't have a reason for it means YOU don't either!!! hehe that will surely show them!!!!!
So you admit you need meds?
I don't want to be stuck in my room hunched over a keyboard when I game. Especially not in winter. Besides, I will only use the PC for demanding games. My steam deck will be my dedicated indie machine.
>dedicated indie machine.
the rallying cry of defeat
>hunched over a keyboard
I literally lean back in my gaming chair with a footrest and play all my games with a wireless xbox controller on PC.
>hunched
Are you using a stool?
They bumped me back to Q4
Made me check. I'm still q3
Being able to easily play M&KB games in a handheld form isn't being talked about enough. I can even play games that use every single key on the keyboard like 80s Ultima thanks to the 24 hotkeys you can assign across the two touchpads
Literal shill post
Nobody wants your shitty chink hand me down hardware anon.
No one even mentioned chink stuff.
Literally rent free.
>Looks at thread
>Look at you
I repeat nobody wants your shitty chink hardware and learn the tell the difference between posters moronic homosexuals.
and yet everyone IMMEDIATELY proceeds to starts talking about chinkshit
how curious
>Go into thread
>The deck sucks
>Buy this shit instead
>shout about "chinks"
>respond
>hahah see you're talking about it!

>gets called out as a shill

To be fair Valve has always been clear they wanted third party hardware developers to move to linux, and are very willing to help them set up SteamOS as an alternative to Windows. That was the whole point of Steam Machines but it ultimately failed there's no incentive for hardware makers to do it at a reasonable price point to be successful.
Now with Steam Deck on the block, there is. It's a clear message to hardware developers, build your hardware cheaper or watch Steam Deck gobble up all the market share.
Personally, I hope the likes of GPD or whatever really start giving a shit and start competing with Steam Deck on both spec and pricing.
>steam deck has sent a clear message: "be a large corporation with the clout to strongarm large chip manufacturers"
>Personally I hope GPD or whatever start giving a shit and sell their machines for far less than it costs to make them, going bankrupt in weeks
kek you're an idiot.
>He thinks everyones just going to switch to linux
Im sure the devs really care about that 1% of users.
This. Linux is the fricking Betamax of our generation
I don't give a shit about your poorhomosexual console wars. The dual touchpad setup is game changing and combined with gyro controls finally makes gamepads worth using over kb&m controls
>game changing
jesus, you shills are as obvious as game journos. Call it breathtaking too, why don't you?
anyone else playing https://store.steampowered.com/app/1566390/Seed_of_the_Dead_Sweet_Home/
on deck with lewd patch
No, I'm not a coomer.
sad
I can't buy one right now that's what.
FedEx taking forever to get to my house. Been waiting by the door for 6 hours.
do gamers really
I literally cannot focus on doing anything while waiting. Luckily it just got here. First impressions is that I cannot believe they got rid of the full pull click on the triggers
>First impressions is that I cannot believe they got rid of the full pull click on the triggers.
Yeah that disappointed me as well, but I guess it might have been annoying to have to apply additional trigger force while supporting a much heavier device. The additional back buttons, dpad, and IMO much improved sticks make up for it though.
He probably lives in an area where some dickhead's going to steal it if he leaves it unattended.

Why did you have to ruin your bait with this
>That developer who works at Epic complaining he can't play fortnite on the deck
>Could literally tell his boss to allow it but instead complains on twitter that he can't play fornite on the deck
Hilarious
now this is some 10/10 right here. Guaranteed replies
Okay you had me at the selfie pat but then I wisened up
Wow, the amount of outright lies in this is staggering.
>No camera so you can't use it for video calls or taking selfies
It's a game console first, personal computer second
>No Windows support so only around 1% of games work
Valve literally has Windows drivers on Deck's Steam Support page
>Emulation limited to gimped Retroarch version on Steam
Ever heard of Flatpak and Flathub?
>Can't play non-Steam games because Linux can't run exe installers
Ever heard of Heroic Game Launcher and Lutris?
>Can't be easily hacked like a 3DS or Vita
sudo rape OP -verbose

"Bwaaah! I can't play my next-gen games on ultra settings on a tiny-ass screen with a sensible battery life! Bwaaaah!"
>Can't run some of the greatest iconic games of this generation like Genshin Impact and Fortnite because they don't work on Linux and aren't on Steam
Trash taste
HOLY SHIT! THIS GUY CAUGHT THE SUN! WTF HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?
good bait I laughed
>>Can't be easily hacked like a 3DS or Vita
I know this is bait but dammit this made me laugh.
I bet consolegays actually believe you need to 'hack' your Steam Deck.
No OLED
Seems to have been a pretty good beta release. I eagerly await the fixed Deck 2.0 to actually purchase one.
Better handhelds already exist
You forgot to add

Yes you are.

My sister didn't care for the porn games in the computer so I don't have a reason to buy one anymore
I remember you from a prior thread. Why the frick would you justify a Steam Deck purchase because of your sister finding porn games on your computer?
No, it's because she never leaves me alone, we even share the bedroom, so I wanted one to play porn games in the bathroom or something. But she doesn't really care
Just tell her to leave you alone or suck you off, it sounds like she'd do the later.
How many times have you had sex?
Are these things weaker than an iphone?
What? An iPhone wouldn't even come close.
Ips
Steam Deck prototypes
I can't buy one in my country
It's Valve
And like every other valve product it will eventually stop being supported.
There's too many games. I'm crippled by all these games. Save me Ganker, I can't handle the games.
Is there anywhere I can find 16:10 widescreen patches?
im pretty sure emudeck installs them automatically although they are widescreen patches so the quality varys from game to game
Well these threads are multiplying faster than rabbits in Australia.
UHHHHHHHHHHHHH.... CHINKERSISTER BRO????
>budget model doesn't have the battery life of the others
WWOOOOOAHHH
>budget model
You mean the one that's still $100 more than the cheapest Deck model?
>put steamOS on it
>literally now just a souped-up steam deck with a bigger battery that is half the size and weight
>ryzen 5560U
>zen 3 iGPU
lol.
>can't answer the size
>can't answer the weight
>can't answer the battery life
literally the three things that matter most in a handheld.
>size
imagine unironically playing pc games on a 5.5 inch screen
>weight
absolute soiy moment, you have literally never held a deck
>battery life
lol?
imagine paying $600 to play pc games on a screen that small
Just ordered it yesterday. Delivery sometime in October. I got the top model. Really just want to play portal, and half life. Not really going to play any new games. Mylibrary is from 2007-2012 or so. Last game I purchased on steam was some game about exploring a forrest.
Jesus it has been released for more than half a year. If you don't think it's for you just don't buy it why do you make a thread complaining about it every few hours?
I bought it because
>I want to play it while laying on my bed
>Play games while waiting for my experiments to run
>I can actually plug it in my lab monitor to code and write report in fricking Linux, and it's lighter than my laptop
>No bloated windows shit
>I can play it while I'm on the train, on the plane, or in the passenger seat in a road trip
>Can play 2018-2020 games decently to well (Sekiro runs really smooth)
>Is cheap as frick
I get what I want and I'm happy with it.
If you have a PC and don't want to play games outside of it? Don't buy it Jesus.
Why is it so hard to understand that the device is not for you?
I think even the Nintendogays realized that Valve do not want to compete with Switch and left.
Nowadays it's only the Chinkshills who are doing this.
I think the only thing wrong with this whole thing has nothing to do with the device itself, but with Valve's inability to scale up the production.
It seems like they are content with selling 100k-200k device a year max.
But what's the point then?
>what's the point then?
valve are literally incompetent at hardware. How many failures do they need for people to see this?
I feel like half of the people shitting on it are actually deckgays falsflagging as Nintendogays because they can't be that dumb, and the other half are chink shills.
The chink shills are deckgays actually. The ninten year olds are just here to bait
same desk, same ps4. You Black folk play yourselves all day long
why would you play ff7 without chibi overworld characters? it looks so much better.
> it looks so much better.
I disagree. Plus, I wanted the definitive versions of all the FF games, and the remako+reunion mods are just that
yikes
>He's not using Ninostyle chibis
You tasteless moron. I actually hate your fricking guts.
jesus fricking christ that's hideous
Get some taste. If you think these look better you're genuinely sick in the head.
m8, that looks 100% better. Anyway, 7th heaven doesn't play nice with the steam deck so using reunion assets is the best you'll get on deck without major hassle
I'll just wait. Reunion has worse backgrounds, no dynamic lighting, no sfx packages. I have a 7H iro for beacause. I'll never go back to reunion's stupid ass. Lead modder is an egotistical c**t anyway.
>caring what modders think
are you a downie, or something?
It's not about what he thinks, it's about how he tried to lock down and isolate his translation to his vastly inferior mod package. There's no official way to get his translation on 7H, which allows for a crazy amount of customization over the game itself. You have to basically troll the back channels to get the iro. Frick that stupid homosexual.
>I'll just wait
for what?
Linux release of 7H
>m8, that looks 100% better.
Also you're delusional. Even if you think the full sized models look good in that photo, they look like abominations in motion since they use the chibi animation cells.
Yes, those full-size models look better than your gayass ever crisis shite.
>mfw ever crisis ripped off the mod
That actually looks pretty good, but a little bit too dark
not a good look steamie troony shill sisters...
it's all been the same guy, too. He's bragged about it in these threads before. Someone from the deck shill discord called Armorog talking about how he bought a gpd winmax to bait on Ganker and shill the deck.
It worked
>deck shill discord
Any screenshots?
of the discord? Nope. But they have been bragging in these threads for over a year now. Check the archives for the names Cher, Armorog and Ziggy.
So no proof?
aside from the actual fricking pictures?
What pictures?
only proof is some schizo has been literally headcanon for over an entire year
>he bought a gpd winmax to bait on Ganker and shill the deck.
How the frick does that even work?
>I have better
>post picture
>instant 500 replies, half of which are you and your troony friends talking about how great the deck is in "response"
oh gee, I dunno, must take a real genuiuos
cabal schizo was right all along bros...........................................................................................................................
Has anyone actually modded the remake model into the old game yet? Or is that just impossible with the base game?
You can do it and it looks like shit because of the stiff animation rigs. Chibi models really are the only thing that works until modders start fricking with animation cells and shit.
>only half are chinkshills
steam troony falseflag moment
>deckgays falsflagging as Nintendogays because they can't be that
Fanboys are EXTREMELY dumb, otherwise they would not be fanboys.
@deckbros
i know proton eggroll is used for video codecs and shit valve can't officially distribute, but are there are other performance enhancements it offers besides that?
should i be using protonGE in every game i can?
bump
You might as well use GE unless it fricks up a game, in which case use the most recent proton, or the one that the autists on protonDB prescribe.
you don't. Install it to a windows PC, then copy the files over using warpinator/winpinator.
should i buy this mini laptop? its only $150
sure why not
>Creaky plastic shell
>Huge gaps that collect grease and gunk
>Zero availability
love muh deck
don't love spending upwards of an hour trying to find the perfect steaminput layout for certain titles to play optimally, simple as
though once i do get it all set up it's fricking glorious. last game I set up to play on my deck was GTA3 and it's great
also found out there's a bug with layers where it's supposed to show you a notification when you change action layer, but that shit just outright never works for some reason. and the sound it plays when you change action layer is barely fricking audible either. wish you could customise that better
its a novelty like the switch without anything to really sell it? not only that its a crapshoot what is supported and how long it will be supported for. you can grab a cheap laptop with like a 3050 and dock it and use it as a main computer. this is made for video games and emulators on the go with like 1.5+ hour battery.
>you can grab a cheap laptop with like a 3050
Name one under $800.
Dont be a homosexual, i was saying you should invest the money for a good laptop instead. but also nitro 5 for like 730$
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-AN515-55-53E5-i5-10300H-GeForce-Keyboard/dp/B092YHJGMN/ref=sr_1_3?tag=ganker-20&crid=2AXKZV80LH6S5&keywords=3050+laptop&qid=1660073312&sprefix=3050+laptop%2Caps%2C67&sr=8-3
It's a decent laptop but I mean it's not comparable to the Deck at all?
>Heavier
>No controller
>No gyro
>Can play on your bed and doesn't need a mouse
You tell me anon. Got mine and it works just like I imagined.
Is it even worth playing FF7 if you already know all of the twists in the story?
I play every FF from 6 to 13 except 7 because when I was a kid we only had one computer and my brother played all by himself while I was only allowed to watch.
>twist to the story
what?
My steam deck won't turn on
forgot video
lad why are you spamming it? have you tried holding the button down? have you tried plugging it in then trying to turn it on? have you tried a reset (check the manual)
i'm pressing the button it's just fricked moron
are you pressing it or holding it?
It's not his video. It's just some moronic homosexual thats baiting you. That video was made by a mongoloid who doesn't understand how electronics work either.
you should make more cringe videos with your zoomer hands
Are there really people still complaining about not enough games to play on the system? Seems nonsensical to me given the numbers for even just verified games let alone both combined.
doubtful
i'm emulating every generation up through ps3
my entire steam library
and infinite DLsite games
literally set for the next decade
Dissappointed to see that not even those trackpads help handhelds when it comes to fps games. I just installed black mesa on the deck, it all runs well but damn it's too hard to aim properly on higher difficulties especially when the AI keeps running around. Luckily classic doom works just perfect as there's only lateral view.
Learn to use gyro.
tried in in fallout new vegas but even slight movements made the cursor move too far. Also again doesn't help with fast moving enemies.
tweak it or use community profiles
You can adjust the gyro sensitivity. But yeah fast moving enemies are annoying.
>learn to use gyro
>just swing your massive children's toy all around on an airplane
>swing around
Sounds like you have not learned how to correctly use the gyro
I have been using gyro since the vita. Don't tell me how to waggle, boy.
But you can combine the joystick and the gyro so that you don't have to swing around too much?
I’ll wait for the upgraded version
see you in 4 to 5 years
just like half life 3?
What if their plan is to make Deck successful enough so that when they release Deck 3.0 they will also release HL3 along with it?
The game would takes full use of the gyro, the track pad and the 10 L/R buttons to make some innovative gameplay shit.
it won't get any new games
how do i play games that have isos or mdf files on the steamdeck?

I just bought mine, it should be shipped soon (?). I was conflicted before clicking the payment because it's a crazy cool device that has zero practical use for me
>commuting to work by car, so no playing in bus
>work is kinda fun honestly, no need for a portable gaming device there
>maybe gonna use deck on trips? trips are for trip purposes though
>bedside console sounds nice, but proves unhealthy most of the time
>for every other purpose, PC is just plain superior
i think i've paid for it because i really, really, really wanted HTC Shift when i was in middle school, kind of making up for the unfulfilled dream of a portable x86 pc. eh, gonna replay some oldies at least, should be fun
did you really expect me to read any of that when you admit you don't even have your deck yet
who literally cares, post in a week
Even if you never leave the house the deck is still really cool. Playing anywhere you want, especially big impressive looking games, is extremely comfy.
Too low initial production. Difficult to avoid during a component shortage. Things are looking better now. At the end of July I was even allowed to put a Steam Deck reservation on my Steam wishlist here in Norway.
it flopped
Nothing.
Everythings looking up and up for it.
Nothing. Just like the gamepad, it's good hardware that will probably be out of production soon and nowhere to be found for less than a 300% markup.
i dont use mine at all
i take it to work everyday but i play controller games on my macbook instead
im glad i have it but i dont know what to use it for. the honeymoon period ended a while ago
why is it that when i install the wine flatpak from discover it doesnt show up in my applist
it wont
use flatseal to give it filesystem permissions
good few of the games I am trying to install give error default engine .ini not found, tried bottles, wine, installing on windows and copying files over, multiple downloads, any hints? feel like a moron trying to use linux
Kek is that xcom enemy unknown
Because this problem applies to mac, linux, and windbogged
Go into steam and verify file integrity
pirated games
If default engine ini is not found there is something missing in the game folder on steam
Something got fricked transferring from windows to deck
same error whether installing and transferring, installing using bottles/wine/proton and using different downloads? you really think it's an issue with it being transferred?
Can you find the engine.ini inside the specific game folder? If it isn't there make one and verify the game, that might work.
this is linux we are apeaking about here, I haven't got a clue how to do anything, made sure to install and confirm it ran on windows, then those same files wont work through proton, there are no files installed to my documents when installing on windows, not sure what it's looking for in the compdata folder
Unironically post this in steam deck discussions on Steam.
And looking at that error it looks more like a path issue, it can't find that my documents sub directory.
Have you tried specifying what games you're trying to install?
dishonored 1 + 2 and bulletstorm
the installer i'm trying to use is in japanese and the characters aren't displaying. i can get it to boot the installer but it errors out when i try to navigate folders

I just want to use Linux for my PC and ditch windows altogether. But my PC has an nvidia card so I'm not sure how well proton supports it.
nvidia linux drivers are trash, don't bother
They're literally the same drivers as on Windows.
Its just they're so much shittier than the open source AMD drivers you realize how bad they really are.
Works fine, install nobara os on pc.
I'd still keep a Windows install on hand because certain games are broken because of nvidia. But i haven't really had an issue with the 100 or so games I've tested on Linux such as Doom eternal.
Why run Manjaro when archinstall exists?
Maybe archinstall didn't exist when he first tried manjaro.
I'm a dumb idiot and manjaro has fricking guis for my dumb brain. I still haven't really figured out pacman lmao.
Valve isn't trying to go to war with nintendo so they'll finally be forced to stop being shit and go 3rd party. I want to see this thing advertised everywhere and in retailers.
>so they'll finally be forced to stop being shit and go 3rd party.
Why?
Sounds self explanatory
Loved the steam deck, tried it out for a little while. Unfortunately I just don't have enough use for a portable gaming system to make it worth the money so I ended up returning it.
frfr all my homies did the same, shit is deadass redundant af on god no cap
It's not a lightweight 4k headset + a new input innovation that's superior to both controllers and m+kb for seated gaming and gaming in bed / on sofas, etc. The headset wouldn't even have to be stereoscopic, wireless, or enclosed, it should just be as lightweight as possible.
most people think this cost only $5 USD, because the 5 USD is just reserving a queue line. People are so tired of waiting; and the Deck is not available to order in many countries, any country outside of USA because for Steam, USA is the only country of the world.
2018-202X is full of examples of Switch copycats that have failed to live up their own hype
>most people think this cost only $5 USD
frickin lmao, they arnt switch users, they know what it costs
You don't deserve a (You), your bait was too shitty
What went wrong?
Can it run Android? I was always curious about this.
uh, sure, but apparently android os's are inherently flawed, and have input latency. its why even if you use a wired controller to play emulators and shit it feels off. your better off playing any alternate version of the games you want, if it exists.
