Not even talking about Kantomons Vs Johtomons.
This is just a level-curve/ difficulty and boring battles issue.
Were they lazy when they made this teams?

I agree every Pokemon game except USUM is shit
Yes, it was pretty bad, but it's been 20 years ago and HGSS was just playing it safe and faithful. It's better than gen 1 ridiculous movesets and bugs, and a little worse than gen 3 E4. Let's just hope they'll fix than in future remakes if they're going to make them.
I can excuse the remakes because they had rematches at least. But what in the world would you put 2 magnemites in the 6th badge? Or repeat evolution lines with no reason?
Did I say it was ok? Of course it wasn't. Maybe they wanted to hide stronger and rared steel types, but they could easily gave her Magneton.
Fixed
this is pleasing to look at and probably fun to fight too, thanks anon
Pretty aesthetic. I like it.
>artist picks Pokemon for the Gym Leaders based on their artistic vision
>NOOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST GIVE THEM TEAMS THAT DON'T CATER TO MY AUTISM
This doesn't really count since there are rematches (remakes) and Stadium teams, that give them a full team of 6 competent mons.
I get that every character use Pokémon according to their aesthetics and tried to respect that.
But for the sake of fun and challenge I think that it's OK to give them better teams, still trying to not get away from the original vision
>artist picks Pokemon for the Gym Leaders based on their artistic vision
No they fricking don't. Why would the character artists pick the gym leaders' teams and not the game designers? We already know for example that the Pokemon artists have nothing to do with what movepools, stats, abilities, or even typings the Pokemon they design get.
I think he got a point, but this don't excuse the fact that they have very poor teams
>artistic vision
Game Freak has no vision outside of fricking over Johto, worshiping Kanto, and making CHARIZARD broken
This is near perfect. If i had to change something, I'd have Corsola be part of Jasmine's first team (she started off as a Rock trainer so it makes sense it would be on her starting team)
>no Vileplume for Erika
trash
Chek the original games anon
My main gripe here is that Erika doesn't seem like the kind of trainer to use Parasect. I'd drop it for Vileplume or Sunflora.
I thougth the same, but lack of decent grass Mons made me add Parasect. Sunflora instead of Sudowoodo would make more sense too, but It would make the battle more boring
There are gyms in Kanto with 30s and low 40s ffs
>No three dragonites for lance in the first fight
I know it's joked about a lot but I honestly liked that idea.
Why nerf Morty and get rid of Blaine's Magcargo? I also think Koga should keep his Venomoth considering it's his ace in Yellow and that Erika's team is a little unfitting. Jasmine having two mons that make use of Toxic is also very unfitting, and Clair using Arbok is kinda wack. Otherwise good line-ups, would be cool for a hack or something
>Clair using Arbok is kinda wack
Arbok is in the Dragon egg group
yea, but Arbok is "unworthy" for her, she could've Seadra or Gyarados there
>Nerf morty
The gastly and haunter he had in the original were shit.
>Why nerf Morty
I think that is not that far from the regular Morty team in therms of challenge
>And get rid of Blaine's Magcargo?
I prefered to give it to Brock for his type coverage (not being sweeped by a single grass Mon), and then not repeat on Blanie .I have an autistic rule of not repeating Mons if it's possible.
>I also think Koga should keep his Venomoth considering it's his ace in Yellow
You're right, but again, I prefer to not repeat and Venonoth it's Janine's ace. I like to believe that her father give It to her when she became gym leader
>and that Erika's team is a little unfitting.
Yeah probable all of you are right. I prefered to give her a more challenging/diverse team instead of a more fitting one. Probably should put Venu or Sunflora (shame it's another shitmon)
>Jasmine having two mons that make use of Toxic is also very unfitting,
Hmmm, good point. Maybe I should change Forretress toxic for another move
>and Clair using Arbok is kinda wack.
As other anon said, it's dragon egg type and It fits her aesthethically for me. Also, Gyarados is reserved for rematch to not saturate (lake Fury + Lance's)
>Otherwise good line-ups, would be cool for a hack or something
Thank you anon. My idea is to make a difficulty romhack for my friends to play it, so If apreciate them feedback
Why not just Exeggutor for Erika? It's arguably the strongest Grass type in GSC and it fits her fine, it's on her BW2 and LGPE teams.
Because I putted one on Will's team and other on Blue's. As I said my autism made me try to avoid repeating Mons on different teams if it's possible. There are exceptions tho, but I don't like it. Exeggutor doesn't seem too "Erika" to me anyways, just like Parasect or Sudowoodo. Sunflora, Venusaur or Meganium fits her better
>giving Red Lapras over Espeon
Terrible
Just like HGSS or SM did anon. For me, It makes more sense than Espeon
>Just like [irrelevant zoomer games] did anon
thank frick you weren't in charge of GSC.
you would love that if it was in GS
no I wouldn't. Red having two water types is moronic.
because?
because it makes it easier to sweep his team.
I really don't get what they were thinking when they made 2 dragon specialists for gen 2 when there are only dragon lines in the whole game.
You know why?
Because they know how game design works. You don't want to spoil Pokémon that you can encounter later in the wild. Especially Jothomons.
And you want to spoil Pokémon that you can't encounter, like steelix.
tldr: 99% of /vp/ would make an awful Pokémon game because they can't into game design
Ok now explain why this Game design style put 2 magnemites instead of magneton, a 5th badge with 2 Pokémon, or Seel instead of Cloyster etc
>formatted like a moron
>rhetorical questions
>tldr completely unrelated
>tldr for a short post
This board would be better if you left.
professional moron
> This is just a level-curve/ difficulty and boring battles issue
No, it’s you being an butthole, because this proves that most complaints about Johto/Gen 2 are just lies
>take an issue Johto actually has (Johto gym leaders use mostly Gen 1 Pokemon so many Gen2 Pokémon are robbed it this spotlight that every other Gen’s mons gets)
>exaggerate the frick out of it or make it a bigger problem than it it “JOHTO hAZ No IDENTITIE, WEST KANTTOOO, THE New MOnS ALL SUcK so no one uses than ” instead of taking thee seconds to look at the genuine reasons why the “flaw” exists (Kanto is connected to Johto so having similar mons make sense, new Pokémon were meant to be searched for, many johto pokemon are used by other prominent people and they didn’t want repeats)
>once you’ve run that discussion into the ground, invent a complete lie “Johto gym leaders are lazy and too easy”
There is is no issue with the difficultly of Johto gyms that is common in nearly all gyms in the series. All gym leaders are easy, ironically because Johto’s wild encounters have low levels they give less EXP (which is the actual source of the level curve problem everyone b***hes about) so gym leaders are slightly harder because you’ll be at a lower level when you encounter them.
Yeah, they're lazy and too easy. Level grind problem is another flaw of the games, due to low level trainers post 4 badge. There is no excuse for some leader's teams
>Johto gyms are easy
>in fact they're so easy I have to grind to beat them
I humbly accept your concession
Yup, even if grinding is a pain in the ass, leader's movesets and Pokémon are so shit that it's still easy. Only in the E4 you can feel the level difference, and after that all the Kanto gyms are easy as frick
>too easy
>muh level curve means my Pokemon are under-leveled
Pick one.
Both are true in different sections of the game, as I'm sure others have told you many times. Your inability to cope with that fact doesn't make it false.
I feel like the level curve is what it is because they don't consider Kanto as post-game the way most players do.
Nothing wrong about it, the game has 16 gyms. :^)
While I think the Level Curve in Gen II's shape is fricked I think the angle is fine, the idea of a much lower and gradual level curve I think would pose its own challenges since unless the player goes out of their way to dramatically overlevel then there's a good chance some or most of their team won't be fully evolved giving more weight towards alternate evolutionary methods.
Gen II's problem is that it's curve is all sorts of fricked with the amount it increases being completely unrelated to how far apart the gyms are, like why is the level jump from Bugsy to Whitney four levels (two in HGSS) while Whitney to Morty is five levels (six in HGSS) when the amount of trainers between each area is not significantly different (especially since in both cases Morty has the larger level jump at a higher level). Similarly it doesn't really make sense with Chuck, Jasmine and Pryce, Chuck and Pryce should be moderate level jumps due to the former's trek through the oceanic Routes and the latter's Rocket Hideout subplot, whereas Jasmine should be a stop-beat just above Chuck, not somehow even higher than Pryce.
tl;dr.
All the damn anti-Johto threads are boiling down to the same shit on both sides. Find something actually interesting to talk about or be quiet.
I love Johto games, I think they're top 3 on the series if not the best. It's just that almost all Boss teams are poorly designed. If they were well done, the games would have been perfect
