Whats a good game to learn in detail and comprehensively about gear, weaponry and vehicles of world war 2?
I tried company of heroes but its so far removed from reality that i dont think it teaches me anything. I read the second front thread, would that be a good start?

Commandos series is pretty cool and detailed. I don't think what you're looking for exists.
iinteresting recs. I had forgotten about Combat Mission or Graviteam, from watching videos these are probably exactly what im looking for.
A book. Better yet, ignore all of that shit and learn logistics because that's what actually matters.
Why not just recommend OP to learn a trade or learn about finances and taxes if we're going to ignore his interests in the first place? Those actually matter to the average citizen
He did told him to learn a trade - logisticians are always needed and you get a job in this field pretty much as soon as you have even a technician diploma.
Besides, if one is asking for learning something in detail, video games other than maybe institutional-tier flight simulators are completely fricking useless. And those in turn rely on already having real-life skills and knowledge.
>b-but vidya
Then don't ask which one will teach you anything "in detail", because none will.
>Besides, if one is asking for learning something in detail, video games other than maybe institutional-tier flight simulators are completely fricking useless.
I disagree. Also i do read a lot, i find video games give a lot of plasticity to otherwise just mostly abstract information deducted from books. They can also increase personal engagement with a subject.
Thanks for the recs, i'll have to wait for a sale it seems, to get mius front.
>I disagree.
Yeah, I also disagreed with that when I was 15.
That was 23 years ago.
I really hope the AI revolution lets me request a logistics game. That's it, just being given a certain amount of supplies and having to get them to the right units.
I will would play that game
Not WW2 but Mindustry recently got an update that adds more rts gameplay to it to change from the tower defense focus it had before. Multiplayer skirmishes allways had rts in it too
Hmmm ,maybe I'll look revisit it. Haven't played it in three years, it was kinda basic and clunky at the time.
Men of War is for gear and vehicle autism in RTS
Also, what have said. Plus there is ALWAYS job for logisticians, so it's a win-win on every possible field.
Men of War.

I love this little homie like you wouldn't believe
That 20mm just shreds infantry in mow2.
Graviteam or Gates of Hell (limited to eastern front for now...)
Gary Grigsby's games, they come with vast lists of equipments, you get the idea of what units fielded what and how much of it throughout the war. If you want you can also click on the single equipment type to see a picture and check its capabilities in detail. The game takes all these datas then simulates everything down to single rounds fired.
Seconded on Garyy Grigsby's stuff.
Steel Panthers III made me the man I am today (autistically able to recall details about guns and admired vehicles circa 1939 to present)
Steel Panthers is based
i want a SP2 remake so badly
Which game is this, by the way?
GG's: War in the East 2 with graphic mods for historical unit insignia and flags
I dont think video games document things like that very well, anything first or third person would accurately model the combat for gameplay reasons, and anything strategy / tactics related would obscure it to such a level its also not accurate. Documentaries and historical accounts along with field manuals would probably be the best place.
Correct, except for the Command Modern Operations, but it's cold war and modern only.
Not every videogame is as simplistic as Company of Heroes or Call of Duty you know, there are games that really go in depth in regards to realism and historical accuracy, some of them were already mentioned.
Gary Grigsby games aside you can also check the gzm mod for blitzkrieg 1, it has literally everything from 20th century warfare and not just limited to ww2
