I think I have 100% in Armored Core Project Phantasma and it was still fun but that's a unique case of not having a lot of ancillary bullshit so 100% is just doing every mission and beating every arena opponent, and I can't be fricked in any other AC game where you have to kill every AC that appears, do a bunch of hidden stuff and special mission requirements, and/or S rank every mission. Might get there for MoA or AA eventually, never ever doing it for any of the games from 3 and up.

There are games that feel thrilling and satisfying to 100% after beating the main story, but it's unfortunately a rare thing. Rarer these days now that game devs like doing the monotonous MMO garbage to fill their games up with pointless shallow bullshit.

The short-lived satisfaction of 100%ing a game can be pretty thrilling. It’s only after you realize what you’ve done that the guilt and shame start to settle in.

I can at least appreciate the games where 100% is just part of beating the game, like Pikmin 1 for example.
Games that put you through hours of collectathon bullshit in a non-collectathon game, or other forced autism for an ending can go to hell though. Unless I like the game then it's fine.

Once you finish the main game, you unlock these things called Grottos. They're basically random dungeon seeds, think Disgaea or Diablo. But you need to get certain ones to get the post game items and bosses. They're obtained through street pass trading with other players or by completing other grottos. Basically, you'll be grinding grottos for hundreds of hours to get the specific ones you need. Then grinding for the best gear to defeat certain bosses in those grottos.

Are there any opposites of this? Where it's actually fun to 100% the game?
Only one that comes to mind is Pizza Tower. The ranking system is incredibly generous and there isn't a single level where you have to pull autistic pixel perfect moves. You can get like 60% of the cheevos by accident in your first playthrough too.

If you play Super Mario 64 any other way than getting all 120 stars, you're simply doing it wrong

Most Zelda games from Wind Waker and beyond
Hollow knight if you count the gay arena bullshit as full completion

Not even something where the game is basically built around it, like Mario 64? That's a really fun one to 100% and you get some neat little rewards. Special ending dialogue, a new jump, a new area opened up, a much harder variant to a minigame, and a cameo from a beloved character,

I have a hard time deciding whether I should judge a game based on its side content. If the main game is good, I can just ignore the bad side stuff, right? However, I have ultimately decided that bad side content does drag a game down. I don't care if it's not required, if the devs put it in the game it should be good. If it is not good, then it is the fault of the devs. They either should have made it better or not included it at all.

Should achievents even be considered as part of 100%ing a game? I'e always seen them as something seperate, but maybe I'm just dumb

I wouldn't count it if you go up to 100% on an in-game tracker but you're still missing achievements

    Mad Max.
The last achievement is to complete all of the challenges, got about half way through the challenges before I realized a bunch of the enemy types have most of their spawns locked to game progress so it turned into an absolute slog. Then when I was turning in something to an npc I got launched through the floor and down a cliff and the check point somehow prevented me from handing in while also not counting towards completion. Uninstalled immediately.

Fricking all of them. Every time I felt like "oh, I've already done so many side activities, why don't I finish the rest of them" I ended up exhausted af. Regardless if I managed to get 100% or dropped.

The worst game I have bothered to "100%" was Dragons dogma, doing all the quests took several runs because of shitty time restraints that just are obtuse, and getting the different types of gear. I'm sure there is other shit to really 100% it that aren't in the platinum, for example get all the characters at the Grigori moment, but that's moronic.

As a completionist I love 100%ing most games. I even 100% every asscreed game (origins, odyssey, and valhalla got ridiculous).

But frick me if I'll ever 100% a Yakuza game. I got like 200 hours in Yakuza 0 and didnt even come close. Its just not fun at all. At least with asscreed youre just on autopilot holding forward to a marker and spamming attack. But Yakuza is like you have to git gud at all these old arcade games, mahjong, shogi, etc then do some rng weapon shop shit for 50 hours, get all these arbitrary "do/kill # things" challenges. You cant even go on autopilot, its boring shit you have to be engaged and good at, and none of it is fun. Then when I played other Yakuza games its literally all the same exact shit.

RDR2 might be the worst for it. To gold star every mission you have to complete 3 challenges that usually work in tandem to be bullshit, there's no indication if you failed a challenge until after the mission, most of them seem to bug on replay so it's best to start a whole new game and do them the first time around and the worst part is you frick up and it's back to camp to do the same 20 minute slow ride into the 30 minute cutscene before you can even attempt it again.

I recently had this experience when trying to finish up enter the gungeon. Went from a b/b+ to a c-/d+ for me. I just had absolute shit luck trying to finish up the hunts for the finished gun. Swear to god, the damn hunt targets just refused to spawn for hours on end. This butthurt just fricking snowballed when getting the rat items. It wasn't so bad getting the first 3 items when just getting used to punchout, but the fourth one just refused to drop. Admittedly, getting good was the solution there (and I accidentally learned how to get four keys in my final attempt), but i was misinformed about how the keys dropped and punchout is just a weird thing to adjust to. Anyway, using RNG to extend playtime ruins games. The only thing worse is using literal time with nothing else like with xb2 and ursula.

Love INFRA but 100% would be a nightmare. Normal playthrough is 20+ hours, 300 geocaches (I only found less than 5 per act), find every piece of evidence and secrets in a game that is known to hide stuff effectively. Even with a guide, I think it will take 30-40 hours to get them.

      Anonymous

OK, I double check and it seems that the total number of geocaches is way lower. I was mainly just looking at the locked achievements which for some reason only displays percentage. My bad

I'm tempted to just get a save before Shibusawa in Legend in Yakuza 0. It's going to take me some time to do the JCC bet, 3 arcade games, all the mats and the endless bout and I can't be bothered to play the game again after all that.
