I disagree. The ethnic flavoring of it actually makes it less scary at least for me. Interestingly, I don’t think this about Fatal Frame. That’s how my autism works.
I think the scariest game on PS2 is the first hour of Silent Hill 4. Out of every horror game I had on PS2, the first hour of that freaked me out the most.
I’m not being contrarian and I didn’t say SH4 is the best silent hill.
I said SH4 is the scariest experience on PS2 because it is for me. The isolation in the apartment and the first person view while horrific, strange or unexplainable things are happening to you in your comfort zone is pure psychological horror nightmare fuel.
The reason I believe it’s so scary is because unlike the other Silent Hills, where you (the player) are arriving at an unfamiliar town and therefore expect the worst, in Silent Hill 4 it’s your characters own apartment which you can project onto yourself. Your own sanctuary is turning against you and that’s pretty terrifying. Looking through the keyhole and witnessing strange events, hearing banging and footsteps, your TV fricking with you, your door chained up like for Knox with no explanation, looking out the window where everything seems too normal, it’s just very well done isolation horror. Whether it’s in the other world or not, that apartment is just cursed.
I will never forget that first experience with the game back when it was new and definitely spooked me more than the other SH games, especially playing at night downstairs alone in a dark room.
Now go frick yourself if you can’t handle my opinion homosexual because SH4 is scary as hell.

You should definitely give the third one a try because it does the same thing as SH4. It scared the living shit out of me and I think it's spookier than SH4 and FF1 combined
The scariest part is that if you play it for the first time and don't have alternative costumes unlocked you can actually get tricked that you are awake when in fact it's still a dream.
I remember the first time the ghosts came to my house and was standing in the closet with its legs visable. spooked the absolute frick outta me and I had to put the game down for awhile. I never beat it I cant remember why but that moment always stood out to me cuz it was like wait its not just staying in the spooky ghost town? oh shit. i'll go back to fatal frame 3 someday. its the only 1 of the 3 I havent beat
This game was wicked scary back in the day and got great press. Early 2000s Rockstar was just pumping out hit after hit.
I’m shocked they haven’t tried to make another one. This would absolutely carry over to “modern game” very well.
>I’m shocked they haven’t tried to make another one.
Not sure if facetious but Manhunt 2 isn't as bad as people act. Certainly worth at least one playthrough if only for the premise and Domestic Disturbance.
>watch/play a Japanese horror film/game >the entity is just a pale ghost woman with long dark hair
It's impossible to be afraid of that anymore.
If ghosts were real and dangerous my dick would get me killed
Honestly I think you posted it. There's no greater vision of hell in all of vidya. I guess SH1 is pretty sponkular too.

>Contrarian and likes the worst Silent Hill
Oh I guess I'm being redundant but please kys
not him but SH4 is way creepier than any other SH
not either of you but this. still the 4th least good SH though
I’m not being contrarian and I didn’t say SH4 is the best silent hill.

Have you played Fatal Frame 3?
I’ve only ever played the first one but that game would be my second choice for scariest PS2 game.
You should definitely give the third one a try because it does the same thing as SH4. It scared the living shit out of me and I think it's spookier than SH4 and FF1 combined
Ooohhh that does look creepy, I will absolutely keep this in mind.

Garage, Kowai Shashin, Baroque
Silent Hill 1. Also in Haunting Ground was pretty unnerving for me, especially when I first started playing it
Any of them. Something about feeling constantly uncomfortable while trying to solve puzzles just isn’t “fun” to me, so I pass on the games.
The sequel is better in every way.
CoC Dark Corners of the Earth
or
Hellnight
seconding Hellnight. This game got under my skin like not many other horror games have. Staring into darkness, always being hunted, the eerie music.
For me it's Echo Night: Beyond

It's probably my favorite game of their's. Rockstar should definitely try to make more dark games. I don't think they will, though.
Manhunt made with modern technology would genuinely be too much for most people including me
Yeah. I remember how people reacted to MK11 an MK1 when they saw the fatalities, and unlike Manhunt, MK is so over the top almost it's comedic.
>I’m shocked they haven’t tried to make another one.

I meant another in the series.

If ghosts were real and dangerous my dick would get me killed
>a pale woman with long dark hair has literally always been THE beauty standard for women in Asia
Shit's intentional
