Hell Knight redesign and Maledict are the only good things to come out of it.

I never stopped loving the game but I've developed a lasting hatred for a few of the mid-game stages.

At least it was technically flawless and the mouse interactable UI panels were a nice thing at the time.

Received way too much hate. It was a solid game overall, but not a good Doom game. You could have literally slapped any other name on the game and it would've been received better.

Unlike Doom Shiternal, the 2nd half of the game isn’t an absolute slog to playthrough

Yeah the entirety is a slog to play instead

      >Unlike Doom Shiternal, the 2nd half of the game isn’t an absolute slog
The second half of Eternal, the one where you have all of your guns and most of your suit unlocks, is only a slog if you suck. For anyone else it's objectively more fun than the first half, as you finally are as strong as you are supposed to be, so they take kids gloves off and throw a bunch of challenging encounters at you.

I don't love it, but I like it a lot. Sure, It's not as fast paced as it should have been, and It likes to spawn too many enemies behind you, and It has those fricking spiders that are more terryfying than 10 cyberdemons in doom 2, but I still think it's a pretty good game, and I can't wait to play it on nightmare, like a true maniac. Still a shame for the final boss tho, so fricking dull.

Tech demo, dull FPS where the jumpscares get old 10 minutes in but go on for the next 10 hours.
PDA and interacting with screens is neat I guess, the 5 minutes you're in hell are ok.Still I'd rather play Quake 4 if I had to play a generic FPS

For some reason I've always been massively forgiving towards Doom3, but even before neo-Doom 2016 I had to admit that it wasn't a very good game even for what it was trying to be, and AFTER neo-Doom 2016 its existence has been made completely obsolete.
    Please don't bully poor Doom3.

Meh neo doom is still better than doom 3 but parts of it suck complete balls and make no logical sense to be in a doom game
frankly my problem with them as a whole is just that they don't get what makes doom doom
they only understand the action but not the atmosphere and level design

ofc doom is a generic shooter if you'r IDsoftware you define the shooter genre. Doom3 has unique lightning zero ambient term and always hard edges around shadows. compare it with different games the edges look sharp no matter the close our far away you are. the shadow volumes are not realistic but impressive for the time.

It's my favorite Doom. Admittedly, I don't care much about Doom as a franchise. It was the first Doom I played, so that might be why.

Remember my cousin playing it. He had frickhuge headphones and I got a good scare on him once while he was playing this.
But it always looked sweet to me. I liked the square flashlight for some reason, probably because my grandpa had one in the basement and I always thought flashlights were round because I was a kid and new things amazed me. I bought it last Christmas but never booted it up yet.
I heard they got rid of the switching between flashlight and gun though. I hope I can still play it the old way. I've never played a spookum shooter.

First person Dead Space but worse. The only interesting thing about it was the audio logs.

The gameplay was too slow and the endless dark areas which forced you to use a flashlight were incredibly annoying.
Graphically it was revolutionary when it came out, though it was somewhat upstaged by Far Cry which came out of nowhere right before Doom 3 was released.

It's alright, not terrible at all but the combat is pretty dull and it definitely fails at being scary in any way.

The same way I always did: wasted potential. Great art and graphics, decent atmosphere, weapons aren't as bad as people claim, good monster variety but bad encounter variety until the last fourth of the game. Boring writing. Overall an enjoyable game, but not as good as it could have been.

    I like Quake 4 a lot better.

Looks cool, but it's kind of shit to play. I had absolutely zero issues with the flashlight or any exploration elements because it helped break up the super bland gunplay.
The boss fights are absolutely atrocious.

It's like HL2: an utter slog to play that will melt your mind with how boring to bad it can be. Th e GOAT FPS of 2004 was UT2004 for MP and Halo 2 for SP. Only contrarians who hate fun will disagree. Yes, I am srs
