People hate too much on 8 just because it's new. Part 7's final 1/3rd is just as garbage as 8's. Araki has only ever written 3 good endings to a part, and that was 1, 2, and 4

I consider SV and PLA to be the best mainline 3D games. They were made on the same engine, so I count PLA as part of gen 9, not 8.

I'd only ever put DS2 at equals with either DS1 or 3 because of how wildly different it is as a game to either, does some very unique things that to this day have still never returned to From games but a large majority of those things left for a reason

If this is Tekken, this is accurate though. They only get better with each new release, but 6 had shittier balancing than 5, which had pure soul and better fundamental gameplay.

Kirby is also a game for children, and yet Kirby fans wouldn't accept the series going forward if Kirby could literally just never die. Games have to challenge you at least a little bit.

Holy shit, finally someone posts an interesting opinion. These are probably some of the hardest official Pokemon games, double battles are a million times more fun to play than singles. So many shitmons are viable in these games because of double battling. I hope they return to Orre some day and make it triple battles only next.

Above 6 is pretty appropriate, a gen so shitty people think it's incomplete when it isn't.
I could get 6 on top because it was a big surge for the meta.
I could get 7 on top because it was the most unique and looks the best of all the 3D mainline games
But 8? The game that has the combined flaws of ever previous generation with even more while also removing previous gimmicks in place for a new, completely broken one? The game where you spend 50% of your time in an open field that has nothing in it? Literally all this did was let you change natures, which everyone fricking cheated to do anyway. It’s one of the worst gens for both Comp and Casual.

the series is genuinely stale at this point and would be incredibly easy to fix, but Gamefreak is against changing the tired formula whatsoever and want to keep their game studio as small as possible. Meanwhile, everyone has the dumbest shit to say about stuff that doesn't matter like the graphics or EXP share.
"Pokemon is stale" is the exact reason Game Freak ruined Pokemon with Gen 6+. Pokemon was perfectly fine from Gens 1 - 5. They didn't need to change the formula, they just needed to continue making the games better.

Gen 3 through 5 is Pokemon's golden age. 2 laid the groundworks and 6 still showed some hallmarks of it.
7/8/9 is unrepentantly shit. They did not handle the transition to a 3D overworld well at all, being quite comparable to Pokemon Coliseum and Battle Revolution. Every gen since Mega Evolutions has been increasingly about temporary gimmicks rather than any fundamental changes.

It's simply not possible for it to work in a game like Pokemon. 4 generations of EXP All and it's still imbalanced.
Pokemon is braindead easy to balance around exp share: optional hard mode where badges hard cap levels. Rom hacks do this all the time.

7 is the last gen with good music and at least did something different with island trials. Ultrabeasts are also ultrabased. It's at least on par with 6.
I genuinely think every gen had something enjoyable to offer except for gen 9. I didn't find literally anything to be fun all throughout the entire game. Maybe the DLCs are good won't buy em tho.
