Amazing performance and engaging writing but I've never done a House playthrough and I don't think I ever will. It's just hard to muster up enthusiasm for a guy who treats you like a dumb butthole no matter how well you perform. He works better as a villain and a lightningrod for hate than a legitimate faction leader to obey.

And that's the point. Instead of finding people he can put his trust in he allies with whoever is most convenient at the time and tries to wing it. Then when I come along and I'm actually invested in helping accomplish his goals he forces me to choose between himself and people that have graciously accepted me as a friend by telling me to kill them. Easy choice IMO.

Did you even play the game? Veronica even tells you (in the scenario that she stays with the brotherhood) that no one seen what happened (you and her killing them) and if we take game logic away they probably couldnt link their disappearance to you and Veronica since they got out without the elder's approval and he would not sent more people to potentially be killed by the NCR (wich at this point in the questline they still fear) just to look for a group that violated the lockdown >So what happens after you do the quest in favor of McNamara then?
Nothing, the questline ends and Hardin gets one of the things we wanted (the lockdown being lifted) but lets be fair even if he managed to get his hands on the information about the chain that binds at this point no one would support him since it would boil down to "i want to be elder" instead of "i want to be elder to lift the lockdown"

To me this was a success, because it further shows that the Brotherhood's codex is flawed which is what Veronica is trying to show to her fellow members and McNamara is slowly having to come to grips with. A hardliner like Hardin would get his way and likely have the Mojave BoS slowly destroyed trying to adhere to the codex IMO.
>he'd develop some loyalty in the people he works with
House has great loyalty towards those who work for him. He saves your life, guides you all the way to novac, compensates you fairly, satiates your desire for revenge, gives you arguably the best apartment in new Vegas, allows you to come and go freely from his casino who he has never opened before for anyone ever, congratulates you, and most importantly he is very likely to grant you immortality. He is the only faction leader truly loyal to you, as it is heavily implied that yes man will betray you once his AI goes rogue.

The problem is he's great at fostering disloyalty in those that work for him, like the three families, Benny and the Courier depending on who is playing them.

But youre aware how his back is against the wall, what choice does he have. Plus none of that matters, he already agreed to the families running the casinos, he honors his contracts. If he doesnt trust them after a while he sends you to find violations of the terms instead of killing them or booting them on the spot. If they dont trust House as a leader, they can just walk away, but the don't. All the families are at worst greedy and at best content. Maybe when he restores some of his power and abilities, micromanaging the families becomes all the easier but as long as they make him money and things go smooth he doesnt really have a reason to be suspicious, in which case that makes him a pretty cool and chill boss.
