Akira Yamaoka composed one of the most beautiful, emotional, and unique music in history together with Mary Elizabeth McGlynn's amazing voice. SH3&4 soundtracks may be one of my favorite pieces of music ever composed in anything in terms of style and emotional impact.
I just wish that all of the songs were used a lot more frequently in the games and those main vocals songs were used a lot more creatively during actual story important moments instead of being almost always saved just for the credits.

It iterates on Silent Hill 4's awful attempt at action and elevates it to new heights it brings back the atmosphere of 1-3 but with a proper dodge and lock on system no Silent Hill 4 bullshit button press dodge that barely works. They removed the breakable weapons of 4 and Origins which never fit the series. All ludonarrative dissonance gone with the inventory system it feels like it progresses naturally you don't get a huge arsenal and any upgrades replace your current weapons which makes sense that's what you'd do in IRL. While flawed the story is interesting with the cult splitting and going their different ways and obviously some smart misdirection with the whole Joshua thing.

It has amazing visuals real fricking pretty the color palette is quite mute but so is SH2s grey/brown world

The ONLY decent things about the game are the bosses, soundtrack, and monster design (which was still worse than any Team Silent title, but certainly better than Origins and especially Downpour). If you think homocoming is anywhere close to 1-4, or a good game in any right, you're simply mentally handicapped.
I liked it, but I dont think its a masterpiece. I think it gets an uneccessarily large amount of hate, expecially compared to Downpour. It had some pretty great things in it. Unfortunately the rest of the game held it back from being good imo. If you see it as a Silent Hill inspired/fan fiction game, then its not that bad at all. The music and some of the enemy designs really give it personality that the first 4 Silent Hill games had.

Movie-esque aesthetics, too much focus on making the combat "good" when it's a survival horror, braindead puzzles, shitty twist, bad design for PH. It really feels more like a beat em up sometimes for many enemies can get fricked up with just the starting knife. The OST is good, most of the enemies have good designs, some bosses like the doll thing look fricking stupid. Even if you like the game, it's far from a masterpiece.
Whenever I think of Homecoming, I think of the last stretch of the game where you're going around killing actual human cult members. God, what a fricking stupid game.
There is something stuck in the chute, need a semi-heavy small thing to push it out. I think, its been awhile since I played. Check the map to find the stairs.

Mine was 2, then Homecoming, then 3, then Downpour. I didn't like Pyramid Head in Homecoming, felt very forced. I did like Homecoming though. With that said, it is nowhere near as good as 2 or 3.
I need to play 1 and 4 someday.
I played every SH but Downpour before Homecoming. The trick for me was taking it all in stride, I never went in expecting a flattering expression of the series and I got a by the books, 6/10 survival horror. I'd put it over Shattered Memories and Downpour at least.
