When did you realize Valve (Reddit: The Video Game Company) is an evil company? For me it was when I found out they were hiring Psychologists and Sociologists to thinktank ways to turn their customers into consumerist cultists and to thintank ways to addict them to their platform via gambling and digital cosmetics.

      all companies are evil moron

morons, ethical companies exist. Valve is the epitome of unethical in the video game industry, they lie to their consumers, they attempt to waive consumer rights, they fail to provide sufficient customer support for their size, they invented LOOTBOXES which plague the industry and worst of all they take suggestions solely from REDDIT.

Sneed cope, and project more. Every steam game I have is because I played some games with drops, sold them, and now have a huge backlog. I also have a Switch with 100 games. I don't have an index, don't have a deck, simple as, nerd.

I work for a close-knit small business that has provided me for more opportunities and money than I could have imagined myself having otherwise. Additionally, working as an audio production company, we have a negligible effect on the environment. My boss does pro-bono work and free jobs for her friends. She insisted she paid us a "living wage" (lol) for the area we live in which was about $10 more than the minimum wage. Provided raises commensurate to experience and loyalty. There's at least one.

Akshually it was MapleStory who invented the first lootbox, followed by Zynga making micro transactions popular for Facebook games, then EA with Fifa 09 having the first pay to win style lootboxes.

when they popularized the lootbox concept in the western world with tf2

    and

when they sold day 1 dlc with portal 2

This. Pretty much all the garbage currently plaguing the industry can be attributed to pc gaming with a hefty chunk of it being due to Valve specifically

Tf2 is still the least egregious implementation since you can trade anything with anyone, and the trade economy greatly brought down the value of 99% of the items to where you can buy them for literal pennies on trading sites

Uhh you're thinking of EA who did that. What valve did was hire an expert in the stock market to analyze the steam community market where you can sell shitty cosmetics and loot boxes in exchange for other shitty cosmetics or actual games. If Valve had actual insight into game addiction they wouldn't see players jumping from Dota, CSGo, TF2 to actually garbage like Apex, League, Overwatch, Fortnite, and other micrtransaction software and chink shovelware.

I'm not a fan of Gabe's personal views on some things, but in this age, with how extreme most tech companies are, it's very easy to do business with Valve and not feel forced or bad for doing so.

      >it's very easy to do business with Valve and not feel forced or bad for doing so
Because Valve psychologically and sociologically manipulated you into thinking so?

No, it didn't require them to bust out the humanities charlatans. It's pretty simple. Valve might not always be developer friendly, but they are very customer friendly. They have a flexible return policy and fast servers. I'm fully willing to use an alternative store, and I do at times. Steam just happens to be the gold standard. If someone innovates past them I'm fine running my credit card through them too.

          >Valve might not always be developer friendly, but they are very customer friendly
They objectively aren't 'customer friendly' (as found in multiple courts around the globe). What is your basis of them being customer friendly? Waiving your rights as a consumer? Promoting gambling to children?

Valve's literally the only company on the planet who makes good video games on a relatively consistent basis, so it makes perfect sense that the majority of Ganker would hate them.

as an economist I hate valve because their legion of redditor fans shit on the principle of the free market. consumers are supposed to define the market and yet their drones made me lose faith in this idea. i am now for strong consumer law.
