I've just started playing this game, finished the Pyrite Colosseum and I'm working my way through the thug lair, but it's just boring.
Espeon and Umbreon stomp almost everything and the shadow Pokemon you get feel kind of OP too. Does the difficulty ever increase beyond just having to go through X number of challengers before a save point? Or is this just me forgetting how easy Pokemon games actually are?
The vibe is interesting for a Pokemon game I guess, but I was expecting something a bit more like Stadium (I went in with basically zero knowledge other than its Pokemon and the title). So far, I'm a bit underwhelmed.
Story mode blows, colosseum mode is radical for 3rd gen with your GBA connected.
What makes it so good? Is it basically just like stadium where you see your GB Pokemon battle on TV? Or is there some extra stuff? I'm playing on actual hardware and don't have a link cable, but I'd be willing to emulate to try it out if it's interesting.
That's good to hear, last Pokemon game I played was X whenever that came out, and I was so annoyed at how the entire game just rolled over for you every second.
I just enjoyed doing the Battle Tower thing, it was years ago, could be rose-tinted. I do recall it being very difficult towards the top of the tower, but I also didn't know about IVs / EVs at the time... Not that I would have been willing to EV train in Gen 3.
>about IVs / EVs at the time... Not that I would have been willing to EV train in Gen 3.
I'm too casual for all that anyway. Thanks for the advice/info anon(s)!
IVs are actually pretty straight forward —you can punch your stats into an online calculator and make a call if a particular mon is "decent" or not in the stats that matter. If you're not going all out you can still get a good advantage without dealing with EVs. EVs are nightmarish in Gen 3 and I wouldn't even consider doing anything beyond Carbos type medicines.
The game difficulty does ramp up, especially after around where you are. It won't be as easy as it has been
Seconding this. Push a little further OP, the difficulty is basically the best aspect of the game as it's a rare instance of Pokemon being challenging.
Also do the Mt Battle VS 100 (or whatever it was called), first 30 floors are a slog but the 30 last are worth it. You should do a bit from time to time in the game.
Know that there is a nice gym like section in Phenac city, in the building in the middle. Completely optional if I remember correctly, but it has some good fights.
The game suffers from its chaotic rythm of scenario, but the battles are more and more worth it as you'll advance. Don't hesitate to use mons you usually don't take in other games too, most will be useful even if they would suck in other games.
Thanks anons, I haven't tried Mt Battle yet but I'm going to when I next play. I'll stick with the game a while longer. Who knows, maybe I'll make a new thread when I've completed it.
Just in case, I meant the Mt Battle in story mode, NOT in battle mode. Do the one in story first and do battle only if it's your jam. I think, from your post earlier, that you haven't reached the part of the story where you can access it.
The main interest of battle mode mt battle was to play with your GBA games mons with it. It's less interesting today.
Noted, thanks
>When does Pokemon Colosseum get good?
When you get to the Snagem Admin that has a shadow Entei and Camerupt and he proceeds to wreck your shit by alternating between Earthquake and Protect.
never, it's a pokemon game
Have you tried Mt. Battle yet? The battles get progressively harder until you're up against some really powerful Pokemon.
>Espeon and Umbreon stomp almost everything and the shadow Pokemon you get feel kind of OP too
Until you hit Miror B. and his Ludicolo wall that will stop almost everything cold because they're too underpowered to fight through their high defenses and rain-boosted absorption/speed tactics. This is why you get a Toxic TM before him.
Things generally start picking up once you can fully restore the Shadow Pokemon and get them to evolve so they can keep up with the opponents.
I wish theyd make a Collosseum/XD game with grass or more places to visit. Going town to town and ONLY battling trainers is boring
That's more or less what Scarlet/Violet was, only inexplicably more boring in spite of having more Pokemon
Pokemon Colosseum isn't actually good, it's there so you could get Johtomons in Gen 3 while it's sequel does everything better.
It doesn't, unless you really want Ho-Oh. Play XD instead
