this fricker saw how mushrooms fricked reckful brain and how he failed to make a shitty indie game and thought hmm what if i did these same exact moronic things

I feel kinda bad for him, reckful completely fricking him over and then offing himself must have just fricked his entire brain, that's some nightmarish bullshit hand to be dealt right there
the game actually had a lot of interesting ideas which is a shame it will never see the light of day

there was a bunch of shit that happened before reckful even tried to make his game, the reason he was even making one was because he pulled his investment from the bazaar, he was just fricked in the head, shrooms or no shrooms

              Anonymous

That's because Reckful wanted to be part of the team instead of just the moneybags, so he went off and did his own thing

Videogames are fricking expensive man, especially when you're outsourcing every aspect of them because you're just the idea guy

did he really immediately israelite out and try to underfund the project the #1 thing you cant do to make something good, i thought he had plenty of tempostorm and kickstarter investment capital to get this done? sounding like he got swindled by silicon valley tech lifestyle bs

His initial campaign got like 100k, which is nothing
I don't know how much money he was making from tempostorm but it didn't seem like a lot
He eventually got an investment of 3M from galaxy interactive and 5M from some NFT company called warpspeed, which is now sueing him for not delivering

ah they way i remember he was bragging about being flush with cash and money wasnt going to be an issue, trying to move forward with 100k is a dumbshit idea he had to have already been making that money streaming alone

His undoing was trying to compete with hearthstone on aesthetics with a shoestring budget

It's actually really interesting to watch his devlogs and see how 2 false beliefs can poison an entire design of a project, namely 1) "For it to be successful it should be on every platform possible, especially mobile." 2) "I don't want to make an average game. Great or bust."
In short, he recognized early on his prototype was a run of the mill deckbuilder that didn't utilize its digital nature well like Hearthstone did. So he went back to the drawing board and (correctly) identified how tedious the core of deck building is and sought to streamline it.
First was getting rid of constantly dragging 5-6 cards just to get money. Then was getting rid of decks as the constant cycling from hand to deck was meaningless. Then came making cards not having this negative feedback of 'fixed uses' and instead having cool-downs. Then came making the cards not cards at all and apart of a grid. Then came the rogue elements then yadda yadda yadda.
If you step back, his 2 core tenets don't sound bad in theory - it's the the way they bled into his design process that crippled it. Streamlining is natural and not an inherently bad or good thing. Streamlining to accommodate every type of player and their habits is a fool's errand (x for all is a x for none idiom). Compound this was the insistence that his first game HAS to be the greatest Hearthstone out there, ignores the fact that HS was just climbing the shoulders of giants climbing other giants - ripping from the WoW CCG which was ripping from MtG.
The irony, then, is had he just put out his original concept, it could have found great success. The digital deckbuilder market was barren at this time - Slay the Spire was only in Early Access when he started his croudfunding. Hell, you could argue the pure market focused deckbuilder niche is still unfilled - Dominion finally released a proper digital client after all these years.
Instead he's stuck with a thousand "could of's" that will never materialize.

it's so funny how he thought his brainfart of an idea could match up against a billion-dollar company like blizz with decades of legacy vidya behind them. like holy shit the level of hubris a streamer dork like him would need to even remotely think that is insane lmao.

His idea seemed fine, and is clearly successful enough with all these other backpack simulator type games

the game concept was fine, the idea to develop a game with 0 experience was a shitty idea. if the game came out in 2023/3 it would have been innovative.

he would have been fine if he got this thing out in a timely fashion, when did valve try their hand at this like 2018? designing card games must be rough if you cant give a team essentially infinite money and 8 years to get something workable

Never. They tried a card game but then the auto chess shit started so they restarted but then that fad is impossible to get into so its probably into an auto-battler like a gacha or back to a card game

It was always obvious that a Reynad was a charlatan. His literal claim to fame was having had cheated at Magic. So what else would you expect from someone so morally corrupt? Never mind the fact that just listening to him speak makes it clear that he’s an egomaniac.

probably never, he somehow turned into a /misc/tard with a hint of christcuck even though he self admittedly didn't even finish the bible. That and hes getting sued by his investors for not delivering in 2022.
