you're mentally deficient if you think that the ending is bad.

        explain why it's good
something bland like "this is the eye of the universe and this is going to happen" would be a better ending

a common theme regarding space in most media is its endlessness. it's empty, apathetic, prone to coincidence, it's without much intention. space is void of purposefulness, and this fact is commonly emphasized in most fiction about space.
same in outer wilds. we read endless nomai tablets pondering the nature of the universe, why are things the way they are, is all of this just happenstance, and so on. the nomai are snuffed out by a freak accident, a coincidence that could only be born of an uncaring universe. throuhgout our galaxy lies the remains of the most well meaning and curious goat alien people. their only sin was abandoning the rest of their flock when they got a sniff of the eye's signal. who could blame them? the mystery of the universe was hiding in that signal.

so when you get to the eye of the universe and see its starkly all-black climate, it's foreboding thunderous skies, the weird cubic shapes jutting out of the ground, you think to yourself "this looks a fair bit more ominous than the other planets. this can't be good." you jump into the maelstrom not really knowing what to expect, because the game hasn't given you any hints about whether the truth is either malicious or good. you're going in with the assumption that maybe it's just the end of all things, which we humans interpret as malicious.
what we find instead is that the eye of the universe gives our character a vision resembling their home planet, surrounds them with their friends, and gives them a chance to rebirth the universe should they choose to accept it. it's not an end. it's a new beginning. such a thing is maybe trite and expected in retrospect, but there was no guarantee of that. there was no guarantee of a new universe with life. there was no guarantee that the big bang would have triumphant music or such neat imagery with the stars exploding/trees popping up representing new life
the success is that it's a happy ending when it didn't need to be. that's why it's good.

Your friends are talking about the end of the universe and their own lives. I don't really know what exactly you needed to hear about the eye? Solanum pretty much spells it out for you.

                >Your friends are talking about the end of the universe and their own lives.
it feels like they're your own memories of them, or a quantum version of them, since suddenly they know more than you, somehow
and yet, they talk generic uninteresting shit
every other dialogue/text from the game feels better and it's like they didn't care about this last part

                >I don't really know what exactly you needed to hear about the eye?
what does she say about the eye? because I only remember something like "I'll tell you everything" and tells nothing
yeah it's obvious the eye is older than the universe and it's the reason behind the big bang, but I think I expected anything else after all the game going behind it

                >gender studies
                >pronouns
They were a single sex species, anon.
Also, they weren't speaking English. That's just the game translating their language to you, the player, because you don't speak Hearthian, and unlike some other human languages English doesn't have another genderless pronoun except for "they/them". Hearthians could very well not have gendered pronouns at all.

I'd advise you to take a break from twitter and Ganker btw. It would probably do good.

It's a bit weird that the lizard people somehow went through enough gender studies to make everyone's pronouns they/them but their translation software spits out normal genders for the long dead aliens
But that's pretty much the only complaint I have about the game

                >It’s tempting to linger in this moment, while every possibility still exists. But unless they are collapsed by an observer, they will never be more than possibilities.”

Outer Wilds is the ultimate NPC test. npcs do not have the curiosity drive that makes them want to explore and discover things of their own volition. There are no immediate dopamine rewards that most games have, like cosmetics, unlocks, and leveling up. You play because you want to explore and uncover the mystery, NPCs are physically incapable of doing this.

Definitely. At the half way point I was really wishing the game played in third person and I could at least shoot at some aliens or something. They could've even added chest high cover throughout the game to use. A love interest (femal of course) and seeing our character's bald head also would've gone a long way to letting us make an emotional connection. I love the way in which all the planets are actually orbiting the sun and aren't simply on rails, and the sense of scale the game accomplishes despite each planet only being a couple kilometers wide. The section where you're looking down at Giant's Deep from the Orbital Probe Cannon is a standout, it instilled a real feeling of acrophobia in me despite knowing I would absolutely survive if I fell into the planet. In general, the way the game uses its aesthetics really does it for me, it's "low poly" but in the same way Sea of Thieves or Deep Rock Galactic is, focusing on really pristine lighting while not having to cut corners in detail for certain areas to accomplish its aesthetic.
The sound design is fantastic, as is the score, especially in the DLC. Speaking of the DLC, the Stranger is hands down one of the single greatest pieces of level design I've ever encountered in a game. It took me hours to stop getting distracted staring up at it.

NPCs like the ones shitting their diaper in this thread can't enjoy outer wilds because the enjoyment you get out of the game comes from figuring out things instead of being rewarded with XP and unlocks and loot boxes for going where a questmarker is to kill a moronic monster. The concept of thinking by yourself and analyzing the world like a puzzle is completely otherworldly to them.
They ask us to "prove" to them that the game is good, and are expecting us to tell them of the time we accepted a quest from John DickFace of the guild of the space c**ts to kill the ancient evil space bear of evilness ™, sadly that's not what there is in this game and describing the moment we understand a logic puzzle or the realization and understanding of subtle link between two elements that both work in the lore of the game and also work as a piece of a flawless world puzzle can't be used to impress the npcs in the same way a Skyrim of duty: assassin's creed of kings and mutant chicken trailer can impress them by showing big vista and skeletons being plummeted to death by estramacons and claymores.

thats not an explanation of what they like about the game
thats a hxhgay (of course) setting up a strawman and pretending outer wilds isnt a game where you get told where to go put triangular pegs into triangular holes. im surprised there wasnt something about how brainlets will never understand how to fly the spaceship which has an autopilot button

I thought after falling into the black hole for the first time I had seen most of the spooky shit in this game but for some reason entering the VR simulation and seeing the shadow of the owl watching slideshows was terrifying. The thought of something else being alive when everything till that point had been dead was mega spooky. First time I got spotted by an owl and it howled at me almost made me shit my pants.

It's not exactly uplifting, but the moment with the Prisoner did give me the feels. It's like a little miracle hundreds of thousands of years in the making all to let him know that it wasn't for nothing.

Then the actual ending and the way it shapes how you end up shaping everything, that was nice. Like a final affirmation that it all mattered in the end, and everything that you and everyone else did lived on in some small way.

          >orbital probe cannon
it's literally the first thing you see when you wake up
          just fly there
sun station, southern observatory, high energy lab, etc, you have lots of stuff to explore
again, pick a rumor and try to complete it

I got the game in august of 2020 and have always found keyboard and mouse a better way to fly the ship than controller. I'm not even a KB+M exclusivist or something I do use my controller for a lot of third person action games and racing games and even flying games but the ship in OW worked better for me with KB+M.
