But they say it's hard on the NES, not on oi me speccy, which is an obvious fact. Truth be told, it's the easiest game in the series. The difficulty is cranked up more and more with each subsequent entry.
I thought Super C was easier.
It's not. I still can't beat this one without dying even once. Some bosses are way harder than anything from the first game and there are some bullshit environment hazards as well.
I can 1cc Super C but will always die at least once on those floor mouth enemies.
Can that even be avoided? I swear it's random where they appear.
I've done a 0 death run a couple of times. Just try not to rush trough that part and keep firing with F weapon. Be ready to change directions immediately if one of those frickers is about to appear under you. I usually just walk in the middle of the screen where there is more space to avoid them.
I did a no-hit run for both Contra and Super C but I still don't know if there is a pattern to those mouths.
How long did it take to achieve? A decade ago I did a no upgrade 1cc of Super C at least, can't remember if I died, but probably at least once. Kind of want to practice up to do that again.
Don't remember. I was like 12-to-15 and basically had a whole summer with nothing to do. Played both a lot (Contra 1 is really easy, though, but Energy Zone trips me up sometimes). My guesstimate is probably around 2 weeks of continuous play.
Meh, at least it has scrolling unlike the MSX version.
its "NES Hard" which means people that played newer systems will find it challenging but its nothing out of the ordinary in comparison to most NES games. Also, this is all assuming no Konami code, because then it's a walk in the park
The game is easy with the konami code but hard without it.
First time I played was with the Konami Code and I died a shitton, next time I played without it I only died a few times. Git fricking gud
Because most of those people played Contra as young kids (like 5) and their perceptions remain the same.
My cousins that are older than me made a big deal about getting through the first stage of super c without getting hit. That's not a big deal at all.
one-hit ko
Wasn't it originally 2 lives only? I played only Chinese bootlegs with 30 lives.
iirc 2 lives, but you get a third by the end of the first stage anyway, and more throughout the game. Plus there's 3 continues so your lives refill. There's really on reason to ever need 30, let alone 10.
It came from NESbabbs that only played nintendo games + the occasional mainstream 3rd party title like Castlevania or Megaman. Compared to those it is hard.
From people that don't play it ever. Only people that say it's "easy" are the ones that took 2 months to beat it
I beat Super C the same night I started. By that standard I'd say it's easy.
because dumbfrick americans broke the difficulty curve
the game is perfect to get into if you have the original japanese life bars. you can make decent headway into the game quickly and you improve at the early levels as you make your way into the later ones
the US version fricks that, so people get filtered with 3 lives and then immediately cheat to get 30 lives. then they think the game is only reasonable with cheat codes
There are no life bars in the Japanese version of Contra. Your obsession (or schizophrenia) over America is causing you to invent false realities. Please seek therapy.
He's referring to hard corps for some reason.
Based USA fixed the easy JP version of hard corps, thus making it earn its name
Hard Corps starts with 3 lives but you end up with around 7 by the end. So you can die quite a bit. Compare that to any Metal Slug game where you start with 2 lives and get 0 extras the whole game and also die in 1 hit.
Giving contra lifebars is wickety wack yo. Arcade run n guns don't do that
>americans
rent free, motherfricker.
I 1cc’d the original arcade version in a day and the slightly harder arcade sequel in 2 days. The nes games are a joke in comparison unless you’re a moronic normie
NES contra is longer and harder than the arcade version, you stupid larper.
You need to do at least a little bit of research before you start larping, kiddo.
post url / replay?
shouldn't be hard for you to make a quick video now since you've done it before and it's soooo easy
otherwise:
no proof = didn't happen
Post your no death run and proof it was attained easily and quickly.
I only find it hard from level 6 onwards.
I have a confession to make. I browse this board and I still haven't tried beating Contra, last time I played it was when I was a child. Will I manage to do it if I beat all NES Castlevanias, Mega Mans and Ninja Gaidens? If anything I played Famicom versions of CV3 and NG3 like a pussy
what do you mean by beating? some games let you spam continues so beating them is trivial, even if they have checkpoints. but if you mean beating them without continues (1CC) then you have to practice. if you can 1cc NG or CV then you should be able to 1cc a contra with enough practice too
By beating I mean just getting to the credits. No 1cc
I see, that's not hard at all then
1cc or no death runs is when the fun starts
Don't believe the hype, Contra is one of the easiest games out there. You get the spreadshot and you're basically invincible. Just learn the enemy patterns and you can beat it in a couple days, tops. It's only like 15 minutes long.
>Just learn the enemy patterns and you can beat it
Well... no shit
I don't know what other advice you were expecting, that's all there is to it. It's a simple game, bullets don't fly too fast, enemies run relatively slowly, you have great air maneuverability, so just knowing what is about to come at you is 80% of the battle.
Definitely. I had a much harder time just beating NG1 than doing a no-hit run of Contra 1.
Try finishing it without the konami code, tardlard.
You only think its not hard because you've played it a million times
This is something else to consider. Take Castlevania 1 for example. I dont consider that game hard at all because I've played it a ton and know how to exploit enemies. Someone who has spent less hours with the game is likely to have much more trouble.
Probably from the fact that I played it when I was 5
One of the best quality games and also one of the most fair. I learned to beat it with 1 live in a day.
It is hard tho, just because you've autistically memorized every enemy spawn, jump, and spread shot location doesn't mean it's easy for someone playing it for the first time. Why are autists incapable of putting themselves in another person's shoes?
most "gamers" are very unintelligent and can't approach anything with memory or strategy in mind and prefer to run in like a moron every single play and wonder why they keep failing.
