Where should I start with the JRPG genre? Basically I'm asking for "babies first JRPG"

Dragon Quest 5
lufia 2
me offscreen
Dragon Quest and specifically DQ3 was the progenitor of what we know as JRPG's today
Literally Pokémon.
Try Fire-Red version for the original story with a more polished game
>"babies first JRPG"
Yeah, that's Chrono Trigger.
Nearly every popular JRPG is easy enough to be treated as "baby's first JRPG" and appealing enough that you'd probably like it if you like the genre at all. Just play any popular one.
If you actually want an extraordinarily simple one even by the low standards of the genre, then maybe try Dragon Warrior 1 for NES, which was the actual first JRPG for many many people in the English-speaking world (including me, and I loved it), or FInal Fantasy Mystic Quest, which was specifically designed to be an easy entry point to the genre.
Lol don't recommend dragon quest 1
Just recommend Chrono trigger or final fantasy 7. Dq1 is outdated to hell and back and not even jrpg diehards finish itm I finished it but it's def not beginner frenly
FF7 is best enjoyed after you've played lots of 8-bit and 16-bit JRPGs so you can get a feel for how much of a game changer it was. I guess this applies to plenty of older "influential" media like, say, Citizen Kane (not that I've ever seen it).
He wants babies first jrpg lol
Final Fantasy 7 is such a better choice than fricking dq1 and random 16 and 8 bit jrpgs lol
Like are you kidding?
or how about he recommends what he wants and you recommend what the frick you want you stupid gay
Dragon Warrior was my first JRPG. I was a young kid at the time. Like I said, I loved it. You are not smart. We are having this conversation on the spoilernet, so OP obviously knows where to find hints if OP wants hints. OP will be fine with this game or nearly any other.
>If you actually want an extraordinarily simple one even by the low standards of the genre, then maybe try Dragon Warrior 1 for NES
Frick off, its the worst game in the series. A beginner who hates RPGs is never going to play any game in the series ever again if they start with this. If you're gonna play DQ just go straight to the best game in the series, V. If you go by order you'll give up by the third dungeon of II and will never experience the kino that is IV-VI.
That anons insane
I loved dq1 and hated 2 and I'm a DQ diehard. I honestly can't understand why anyone would recommend dq1 as babies first jrpg and than I got shit on by two anons for recommending ff7 lol
Who cares what a beginner who hates RPGs is going to do? That person isn't in this conversation. OP asked for something simple, not for something that'll convert a hater. You people are morons. Dragon Warrior is extremely simple and, yes, beginner-friendly, in that it mainly requires you to fight battles over and over, which even a young child can do.
Anyway my main recommendation was basically Chrono Trigger or FF7. You dopes are getting triggered by an aside.
And nobody recommended Dragon Warrior 2.
Super Mario RPG is a good one. It's a great, fun game. It plays like a regular JRPG, but adds a bit more interactivity by way of timed hits and special move inputs, plus some simple platforming-ish gameplay for the overworld. While most all of the basic RPG elements are there, like inventory management, equipment upgrades, stat progression, and party building (though there aren't very many party members and your active ones are limited to three, with Mario always required), they are handled very lightly, as you can pretty much just buy the newest equipment at the current shop, do nothing but upgrade HP for your stat bonus, and pick pretty much any party and make it through fine. Of course finding better, special equipment given to select party members and making a good party for the situation will make parts easier, it's almost more like a bonus than anything.
Jibun
Bard's Tale
My firsts were Final Fantasy IV, Chrono Trigger and Earthbound. I was able to get into those before age 10.
chrono trigger is the correct choice
>final fantasy 4 thru 6
acceptable
>dragon quest
don't play any of the NES ones. 5 is an okay start
>pokemon
no these games will make you think RPGs are for the brain damaged
>earthbound
the whole point of this game is that it subverts RPG tropes. it also sucks dick to play
>a JRPG with a rolling HP meter and enemies visible on the map which you can sneak by or upon
>sucks dick to play
I see you have experience with brain damage.
>a JRPG with a rolling HP meter
it's like ATB but only on health. okay gimmick but it barely matters
>enemies visible on the map which you can sneak by or upon
yeah my favorite part of earthbound is skipping combat too
Final fantasy 2 on psp.
Do you think they're hard or something? Just play any. But it should be emulable because you won't stomach it with no fast-forward.
Dragon quest 4 or paper mario.
Breath of Fire 3
Grandia 1
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 3 or 4 (remaster or 3D versions)
Lunar
All fine places to start
