The first lesson in good writing is making a main character who people can relate to. Not make some unattainable mary-sue, dumb tripcancer. Also silent protagonists are out of date, we now have the storage space to record and use voice overs.

The more a protag talks the less you can identify with them because you'd have to overwrite their personnality.
With that said Adol is not a character, just the default dude you control.
