Is it "NOOOO IT'S NOT MORROWIND, AIEEEE"? I figure they all are when it comes to Oblivion.
Oblivion is the biggest case of "we didn't know how good we had it" yes it's a downgrade from Morrowind as far as becoming an OP god character and it's little more than a very pretty generic first person RPG but look what came next, fricking Skyrim. I'd take 8 oblivion sequels over Skyrim
>A Quick Retrospective
>12 hours
i think thats the joke
For me? Its pannekoek2012 https://youtu.be/kpk2tdsPh0A
This video is so interesting to me that I'll watch it in its entirety every few months. I wish people didn't ridicule him for it as I'd love more commentated content
the first time i've seen it I was 100% convinced everything he is saying is complete bullshit and that he is just making this stuff up
learning that its actually all real was crazy
Even tho he's holding the A button to the next stage, logically it's still a press that was hold through both worlds. His "hypothesis" can't be proved mathematically, but so many people fall for it
You're a moron and I will not respond to any subsequent replies. The half press is simply a form of notation to say that its a singular held A press for the level. In a full run the half press would inevitably be released as a full press. It's a challenge that pannenkoek and the community participate in, so dumb outsiders like you trying to argue math and semantics are moronic. Frick off, casual
To be fair Patricians video is pretty good in the analysis of oblivion
I was disappointed that he didn't mention the Shrine of Sheogorath's changing dialog based on how far you progressed through Shivering Isles
This is just too much. You're already dictating so there's no reason it should take longer than 20 minutes imo, which could be already pushing it. It's pretty much a review, plus the changes over the years or rather, how the game was when it was released since it's a retrospective. You're not gonna get an audience patient enough for that.
It's broken up into a number of segments and is written with the user playing it in the background in mind, never requiring you to actually look at the video
>is written with the user playing it in the background in mind, never requiring you to actually look at the video
proof?
Steak's MGS 4 was a mistake. It's a must-watch.
I only watch analysis of game I've played, I'm sorry.
As of recent years I've had difficulties watching "x thing is bad" videos mostly because half the time is employed in simply saying "I don't like thing", I recently watched "Why I dont like undertale" and it was mostly "I just didn't like it lmao" for 40 minutes.
The only one that still gets me is matthewmatosis rant on bioshock infinite.
It's not really "x thing is bad" so much as a very throughout, funny exploration of a game. I highly recommended, it's not a downer kind of video.
Alright, will check it out, might be biased though, I enjoyed mgs4 for what it was.
I will watch it and judge you later, might not inform you my judgement though.
>The only one that still gets me is matthewmatosis rant on bioshock infinite.
Ah yes, classic https://youtu.be/VdNhwb7iuI4?t=95
>Not enough of them "Black folk" were raped in this videogame.
Wow, I can't believe he went there.
>2013
2014 really did frick everything up
lmao
anon dont

>video essay

>not listening to it in the background
i never understood essaygays. first off, you're fricking inefficient, just listen to it while you do anything else. secondly, you're most likely listening to a former furry with his mic shoved in his throat and with a vocal fry who still forces IRL skits in his videos after 2014
Some of them employ visual aid effectively, and some of them squeeze visual jokes.
MandaloreGaming's adventure game playthroughs
>12 hours of ShammyTV being the opposite of his fursona because he's a giddy drunk and talking incessantly
I watched his playthrough of The Moment of Silence and it wasn't worth it at all.
It's amazing how much Shammy ruined the mystery of the druids playthrough
>watching homosexuallore the troony who hangs with the troony cancel squad
youre a Black person
The only good game analysis out there
>Justin poppin hydros like skittles
>Bob ripping on guitar
As someone who's tried his hand at video essays, i promise you that anything longer than an hour is inevitably going to devolve into autistic nitpicking that does very little to serve the video's thesis. Hell, even an hour is pushing it most of the time.
Anyone who writes and watches these 3 hour videos are either bored as frick, sperging out, or has 0 idea how to write and is using a thousand words when 10 would probably do.
>I am the authority in this!!!!
Yeah you sound like the kind of c**t who'd make one these.
I made one about the desolate hope last like 12 minutes it's in spanish though
Post essays
>i promise you that anything longer than an hour is inevitably going to devolve into autistic nitpicking that does very little to serve the video's thesis
Sometimes it devolves into autistic nitpicking that perfectly serves the video's thesis, such as in the case of this series:
Might check it o...
>It's a reply video
Worth every second.
Some of these many hour long "analyses" are a roundabout way of posting the whole game online for people to watch without getting copyright striked, as it's under the guise of critique/review.
I liked the video and agreed with his point, but dude really did just waste 20 minutes of the video on an "experiment" proving something obvious that could have been summed up in 30 seconds. I like Game Statistic and his breakdown of the Tomb Raider games, but even this was too autistic for me. Good thing there's timestamps.
You watch one and you've watched them all. They are all the same safe opinions over and over again
>watching any YouTube video let alone analysis/review videos
The pipe strip
The cat has your PIPE
The only vidya retrospective tuber guy I actually love is TehSnakerer. Something about this dumb bongs voice and style of speaking is very relaxing and almost hypnotic. Plus his analysis of weird old games is actually interesting and well thought out.
Nothing drives me more berserk than getting 30 minutes into one of these only to realize that it's just a synopsis of the story and nothing else. There was even one that I watched where the guy just recounted his autistic RP of skyrim for several hours.
Nice thumbnail, homosexual
None, because they’re all the same.
Speaking of 90 movies. What are some examples of movies lasting for roughly 90 minutes or more?
>analysis is great until the midway point where the author goes on an unexplicable rant about gamergate and how devs are harassed despite that not being what gamergate was about
Many such cases.
Pyrocynical makes the best gaming essays. His Fry cry 3 video is infinitely rewatchable.
What's the sweet spot for you when it comes to essay runtime? Do you prefer longer and shorter particularly when it's a game you haven't played?
I don't watch video essays, I watch 30 minute reviews with spoilers to decide if I want to play the game. The focus of the review is usually vague impressions specific to the author rather then a structured breakdown of the game, because that is more relevant.

See lads, this is ad hominem right here guys. I said they can't prove it
I feel like I've seen this exact same thread multiple times already over the past few weeks.
