Most likely because America's experience in Iraq dealing with CQB made people realize that bullpups are fricking awful if you're the one fighting door to door.

for a country that shyed away from bullpups the US came awfully close to having a bullpup as their new advanced rifle platform, which would have been the ultimate troll move >spend the better part of 40+ years convincing the west and western aligned countries that bullpups are garbo and they should adopt the AR platform >adopt a bullpup right after everyone switches over

NGSW (Next Generation Squad Weapon, the armys new weapons system. machine gun and rifle combo deal) prospects specifically the general dynamics offering. they ended up choosing the sig rifle which is basically an m4/ar15/416 without a buffer tube and in a special caliber with a hybrid shell casing to handle the pressure of the new caliber.

oh, that, I remember having read about it a while ago. I wonder if it provides substantial improvements over the 5.56. I also remember some people on /k/ claimed "it's like the M14 all over again"
It doesn't even matter anymore because they're replacing the FAMAS with the HK416. The Germans are replacing the G36 with the HK416. The British are adopting the KS-1. Even the Chinese just gave up and copied the HK416. It's an AR world now.
FAMAS was great because it was a bullpup and it has virtually no recoil.
The problem is it was a weapon designed in the 70's where body armor wasn't much of a thing, so usually you'd throw your backpack down, put your famas on top twist a bit to the side to aim so that your body wasn't completely facing the enemy. That's why there's such a gap between stock "cheek" rest and the sight.
Also it has semi, 3round burst and full auto. I don't know why game devs autistically think it's a only a 3round burst gun.
With the advent of optics being so fricking nice (can't really convey that in a game) as well as wanting interoperability with other NATO forces they decided to swap to an AR style gun in the last 2000s.
The croatian had a nice gun they were interested in but they couldn't fulfill a 100k supply in the requested amount of time. The SCAR-L was nominated as well (from our belgian buddies).
In the end they settled with the HK416 from our friendly neighborhood germans. It's all about money really.

I dont know, but are you familiar with game development stuff?

To quote a guy who actually knows what he's talking about, "You just fired 8 rounds of 30-06, everyone near you is deaf." And never mind that, what about the squad mates to his right and left? What about the machine gun team a couple of yards away?
Never mind ALL of that, a half-decent rifleman will have his M1 reloaded and shouldered in about 4 seconds.
The A2 has burst fire because during Vietnam, poorly trained draftees were constantly running out of ammo in the field due to their mag-dumping everything in sight.
There's been a lot of debate as to whether switching from full-auto to burst was a wise choice but honestly, it pretty irrelevant in practice because we're trained to fire on semi-auto almost exclusively.
funny enough, now in ukraine both ak and ar are used as trench smg like what the german and russian thought they would be in 1940's and 1950's. so yes, burst is just stupid israelite meme who dont want their goyim to shoot extra shekels.
Only when you play a tactical shooter where the game doesn't display the amount of bullets in your mag, you get to appreciate the last burst being shorter than normal ones. In Insurgency sandstorm, the engagement distance is about 20meters+ so burst fire and single fire are preferred. You can't ditch your mag on a whim because it discards the remaining bullets in it, so you have to try your best to not reload before the mag is empty or almost empty.
it's a combination of the heat shield and the name launcher, heat shields don't do much for me.
I even preferred the MG34 over the MG42 in Red Orchestra 2 because the sound didn't scare off noobs
I'll give you a better one >play Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis (aka arma cold war assault) >use the XM177 >it can't use M16 magazines despite being almost exactly the same gun, save for mostly the barrel lenght
giving hecu mp5 was a mistake, they shouldve been given an actual m16 like the alpha and concept art shows. IDK why but valve seem adverse to having assault rifle in half life series. Even HL2 didnt have proper assault rifle.
I read on /k/ that an M4 weighs the same as an MP5 and even 5.56 has similar weight to 9mm which is the reason why most smgs are getting phased out in favor of carbines

Assault rifles are good at close and medium range. For close range you just spray them and for medium you switch to semi. You have good capacity, good ammo weight, manageable recoil. It jut werks.
HL2 beta had an OICW instead of AR2, and you could just scope in and pop Combine's heads, it was fairly OP even with the low ammo capacity.

how's that different from what I posted
I don't understand what you mean op unless you're on about it being 5.56, yet not using stanag magazines AND using underpowered 5.56 ammo because regular rounds can damage it
it's asking for a logistics clusterfrick
Insurgency sandstorm has it for the insurgent side. The most expensive AR since the RoF is the highest for its class, competing with the kriss vector/mg3 overall
>can't use French ammo
as a nogunz I think the famas' underpowered 5.56 would still be enough to make other rifles cycle
also as far as I know the French army does use M249s
It doesn't even matter anymore because they're replacing the FAMAS with the HK416. The Germans are replacing the G36 with the HK416. The British are adopting the KS-1. Even the Chinese just gave up and copied the HK416. It's an AR world now.
I don't have a favorite gun in games because games will vary the performance/quality/appeal of the gun so much. And in modern tacticooled up games the gun becomes 50% of the equation with optics and all that shit being the rest.
pick one >sim where every gun is realistically implemented but is a sim so expect to have everything else that comes with it including downtime and huge maps >mp game with balance and every gun having completely different stats for the sake of balance >mp game with realistic balance cancer >modded sp game with loads of guns that have shit like AK74 with wood furniture having completely different stuff from AK74 with plastic furniture >whatever is in-between these

This but you have a wide selection of pre WWII designs like bolt and lever actions to choose from. Bonus points for something like pic relate, a Lebel or a Winchester 1895.
I was thinking more of something like STALKER soup mods 2bh
also you may like 7.62 high calibre with the hard life mod plus other mods that are on the steam workshop
Outside of a mandatory nugget there wasn't much a selection to draw from for that time period. The best game that I found to fill this niche was Ravenfield with the WWII mod. You can have everything from Chiang Kai-Sheks, Arisakas, Berdans, a few kebab Mausers and a Lee Navy rifle. Not to mention even older stuff like the Brown Bess and a Chassepot.
>Burst-fire only rifle
>Magazine doesn't hold a number of rounds divisible by 3.
It's a massive piece of shit.
Did they just never expand the magazine
No. And it doesn't take AR pattern magazines so good fricking luck trying to use NATO standard magazines. Frick the French.
>it doesn't take AR pattern magazines
Never trust a people who named potatos ground apples
They probably contribute to jams.
Wolf Apple is still my favorite old timey name for tomatoes.
But enough about the M16.
>He doesn't know.
M16A4 takes 30 round mags, idiot.
so does the FAMAS G2 Black person
If the FAMAS was so great then why did it get replaced for being a piece of shit by an AR pattern rifle? Get freedom'd you frog-sucking piece of shit.

This but also politics and lobbying, WWX will be fought with AK/M15 pattern rifles and you WILL like it. Fricking disgrace.
*AR15, my brain is full of frick as it is.
Goverments/students aren't smart. They make the worst decisions possible as their normal state.
>If the FAMAS was so great
nobody ever said that
Greatest bullpop at least
I commended the french for still using their own camo instead of copying multicam like all other nations do, including russians for some reason.
The factory that made them was shut down
Yes, that's all there is to it

I know. FAMAS is also capable of full-auto. The more you know.
300 rounds
What
Fairly sure that's referring to the airshitter version of the damn thing.
homie that's an airsoft magazine
The point was letting the user know their magazine was empty as they fired the last, weaker burst.
>Treating the user as if they can't cant to 26.
Do the French really?

Dumbo americano
people don't become soldiers because they're smart
Wrong.
The last bullet is meant for the user.
neither are 3 round burst only
famas had all 3 firing modes and M16A2 was the only varient with burst fire but it also had single fire which is on average military standard
The A2 has burst fire because during Vietnam, poorly trained draftees were constantly running out of ammo in the field due to their mag-dumping everything in sight.
There's been a lot of debate as to whether switching from full-auto to burst was a wise choice but honestly, it pretty irrelevant in practice because we're trained to fire on semi-auto almost exclusively.

do you play milsim games and how do you feel about most milsim games being obsessed with cold war era stuff
Famas isn't a burst-only rifle, you fricking no-guns.
the FAMAS's burst thing was added late in its development and after the magazines were decided on.
moron
nobody use burst IRL you homosexual and famas can fire full auto.
Only when you play a tactical shooter where the game doesn't display the amount of bullets in your mag, you get to appreciate the last burst being shorter than normal ones. IRL burst means "automatic fire until the burst limit". You can shoot fewer rounds if you can control your trigger pressure.
FAMAS if le smol
uoooooooooh
Damn bratatat
CUTE!
How come the carrying handle makes the famas look cooler but every other rifle with a carrying handle looks moronic?
It kinda works for the M16 but yeah, almost every other firearm looks ridiculous with a carry handle.
I think it works with the SA80
Frick you, this kind of M16 is my favourite. Also G36 looks kind of futuristic and cool.
733 is kino
opinion rejected.

It's not, I was agreeing with you.
There are AR15-likes chambered in 9mm.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_9mm_SMG
Marines would not use these things regardless.
Thanks I hate it.

Probably Rainbow 6 vegas/2.
So good.

Grim
Raven Shield was the last proper mainline R6. The Vegas games were already a jump to a different model.
I liked it in mw2019
I THINK THE CARRY HANDLE SUCKS
black ops 1
I love how CoD black ops is full of anachronisms. I'm pretty sure the famas model that is in that game is from the 90s and never was in widespread use
Counterstrike treated this as a budget rifle that's weaker against an M4.

Metal Gear Solid is my favorite game and the FAMAS will always be my Weaponfu.
I don't get why people get so heated up over this or that rifle. Don't they just all get the job done the same?
