The only way you could spin the PS1 or 2 doing damage to the industry is by how hard they pushed Nintendo out of the core console market and forced them to chase non gamers and the mobile market. I'd argue Nintendo's presence in the AAA market is more sorely felt than ever.

True, but what if we had Nintendo consoles that weren't two generations behind in hardware specs in the last 2 decades? What if their current base wasn't comprised of people that don't really play games, people so disillusioned with the awful AAA landscape that they'll take any alternative they can get, or brain dead die hards that will eat up anything with the word Mario or Zelda in the title? Who knows what kind of creative or cutting edge games we might have seen? LttP, Mario 64, OoT would have never existed if Nintendo was sporting mobile tier hardware of the time.
The problem is that if nintendo had its way, there would still be NES consoles on the shelves with super "Mario brothers world 69" bundled to them.
You probably know all this, but other anons that are interested should google nintendos marketing campaigns against the 16bit consoles.

I still smile when I think about how nintendo went to make a presentation to devs for their new console and told them that they're still using cartridges and that they're 64mb max at the time when ps1 used 600mb CDs.

The precursor to league, which you should blame instead is the DotA mod from Warcraft 3. Warcraft 3 also leading to World of Warcraft. It's easily one of the most damaging games to the industry of all time, even the remaster is an affront to god.

I like the first two playstation consoles. I like how weird some of their more obscure games can get and how fun their traditional games are. PS3 and PS4 are a bit boring by comparison
PS2 because it killed the Dreamcast and brought normalgays in with the inclusion of a DVD drive. I think the 360 probably did the most damage though.

the mmo genre was the trojan horse for paid online. the mann-conomy update gave us lootboxes. wing commander and half-life 2 were the original naughty dog movies. steam killing off physical games on pc (and pc lards passively accepting this) was the first step towards the dystopian future of gaming where you will own nothing.
