I don't remember Tifa being such a downer in the original. I know most people love her just for being Tifa but at various times I feel like the more she talks the less attracted I am to her.
She was always like that. It was just easier to miss cause of the way the game was translated and most probably weren't that focused on how she was until the repaired Cloud's mind.
