Apparently they completely rewrote Wyll because he was the least interesting companion...when he apparently had very little content compared to everyone else actually implemented, so it was less that he was the least interesting companion and more the companion that had the least ready. But Larian ignored that first part and just did a huge sweeping change of him. I like current Wyll but he feels kind of lacking. I'd like to know what was what before the change.
In EA all of the party members were far more single minded and actually quite hostile to the PC. Astarion was quite similar to how he is, but Shadowheart was far more brainwashed as a Sharran, Lae'zel was far more hostile and racist, Gale was far more ambitious and power hungry and scheming, and Wyll was actually a roguish charlatan who was playing pretend at the heroism thing but was in actuality completely vain and cowardly and self-absorbed. Karlach was written as a counter-balance to all the edge, but then they decided to rewrite and tone down all the other party members as well.
In my opinion they did themselves a disservice, especially for Wyll, because now the only party member who has any real bite to them is Minthara, who herself is actually very toned down compared to lore-accurate Lolth-sworn drow.
Yeah, Early access Wyll was a better character. Sadly reddit did not like the more hostile companions so there were rewrites. Even now those thinskinned homosexuals can't handle Lae'zel.
Frick. I didn't play EA but maybe it's for the better; I like that dynamic a lot more. Gale being more ambitious lends a lot of credence and plausibility to the God Gale ending and Shadowheart being more brainwashed would make the whole redemption stuff a lot more emotionally impactful.
That's exactly the issue with the release versions; they're watered down but still contain all the previous plot points which led to them being more intense characterisations in the first place. The good acting carries them hard, otherwise they'd all be very forgettable if judged by writing alone.

Apparently they completely rewrote Wyll because he was the least interesting companion...when he apparently had very little content compared to everyone else actually implemented, so it was less that he was the least interesting companion and more the companion that had the least ready. But Larian ignored that first part and just did a huge sweeping change of him. I like current Wyll but he feels kind of lacking. I'd like to know what was what before the change.
In EA all of the party members were far more single minded and actually quite hostile to the PC. Astarion was quite similar to how he is, but Shadowheart was far more brainwashed as a Sharran, Lae'zel was far more hostile and racist, Gale was far more ambitious and power hungry and scheming, and Wyll was actually a roguish charlatan who was playing pretend at the heroism thing but was in actuality completely vain and cowardly and self-absorbed. Karlach was written as a counter-balance to all the edge, but then they decided to rewrite and tone down all the other party members as well.
In my opinion they did themselves a disservice, especially for Wyll, because now the only party member who has any real bite to them is Minthara, who herself is actually very toned down compared to lore-accurate Lolth-sworn drow.
Yeah, Early access Wyll was a better character. Sadly reddit did not like the more hostile companions so there were rewrites. Even now those thinskinned homosexuals can't handle Lae'zel.
Frick. I didn't play EA but maybe it's for the better; I like that dynamic a lot more. Gale being more ambitious lends a lot of credence and plausibility to the God Gale ending and Shadowheart being more brainwashed would make the whole redemption stuff a lot more emotionally impactful.
That's exactly the issue with the release versions; they're watered down but still contain all the previous plot points which led to them being more intense characterisations in the first place. The good acting carries them hard, otherwise they'd all be very forgettable if judged by writing alone.

There are more options SF and FO4 in terms of what you could do, they mostly are slider base, you have more options on what you could do on a single character model, you make him/he attractive, a freak or whatever between.
