If we go by Follower stats, Minoto is the thickest of the two sisters, and by extention the thickest character in the game with 450 health. The only one that comes close is Arlow at 400 health, while Galleus and Fugen are right behind him at 350 and 300 health respectively iirc
Luchika, Rondine, Hinoa and Fiorayne are all tied for lowest Follower health at 250.
At some point in HR there's one last Village quest you unlock with HR monsters that gives you a special armour set I think, you don't need to do rampages
search character:hinoa$ or mikoto$ on sadpanda and look up the 1st doujin thats translated. can almost always find it by making an educated guess according to what characters are in the crops

Yeah same problem. All my muscle memory is p3rd and 4u so if I try to play a weapon I use half the moveset.
Like I played LS to clear village and I didn't know you could do the sheathe thing until I was part way through gathering hall.
I figure you have to go find tutorials for weapons now.
This is honestly a real problem, every weapon seems at least moderately complicated now. Like my friend started MH for the first time with Rise and he picks up dual blades, and i realize i can't give him much advice at all because i have no idea how dual blades work because they're like my least favorite weapon. But it's not like i can suggest he switch to something else because there are no blatant beginner weapons left. Even Switch Axe which used to be the most braindead moron unga weapon has the amped state stuff to worry about.
Switch Skills are a fantastic concept, but they should've included skills that turned off the newer gimmicks so that weapons like GS and SA could go back to their roots as simple weapons.
So if you knew someone with only 1 braincell what would you recommend them now that old school draw slash GS is gone? because my friend was too stupid for LS. He tried it back in Gen and would go the whole hunt without getting to white spirit gauge.
SnS or GS for people to really understand what MH is about, SA or CB for people who want something easy to pick up

I find SnS pretty counter-intuitive to play nowadays. Things like the X button attacks being almost always the wrong choice since the A combos are so strong, and the whole "don't care about element, it's all about shield spam raw". I don't know if sunbreak fixed any of that, but Rise SnS was weird.

I think Sunbreak has struck a nice balance between Elem SnS and never ending shield bashing. At least how I have my build setup, my gameplan is to do the infinite blade dance while protective polish is active, and the second its gone, shield bash to save sharpness and build KO.

this is my first mh and insect glaive is the most fun weapon to use so far. you can do fantastic ground combos and an absurd air combo. you can choose so many different bugs to suit your wants, lately been just runnin heal cloud bug for fellow hunter bros and it's a frickin blast. dual swords was my second choice, real fun quick bursts of damage and dodging, but less versatility and less enjoyable fightin

That's weong though, you never wanna exit demon mode.
Activating arch demon mode buffs your elemental damage even while you're in demon mode, that's about the only use for it, but you don't actually want to be attacking much in archdemon mode.

The point of Archdemon Mode is to give you Demon Mode's moveset without the massive stamina drain. Gone are the days of needing to stay in Demon Mode 24/7.

The EN voice acting for Sunbreak NPCs is actually not bad so I want to give it a chance, especially so I can actually understand the follower banter, but god damn it's the little things. Like the EN voices for player hunters not being able to do battlecries and grunts at all. Even with player voices turned to 0% my MC still sounds like a fricking downsy no matter what voice I pick. I wish there was a mod to mix and match.
Sunbreak devs were blatant Hinoagays. Just look at any time you see them in Elgado. The game doesn't even let you talk to Minoto, It's always just "talk to Hinoa, while Minoto stands there".
Actually it's the opposite. The first time you talk to her in Elgado, she blurts your name out loud because "oh thank god another person I actually know besides my sister", and then gets flustered for it.
Sunbreak didn't. And Rise came out on the switch first, which is what I got it for.
I'm not going to waste money buying the vanilla game on two platforms. So I wated with the pc version for sunbreak.

I only started playing it a week ago because I was still playing another game.
I also don't play for 10 hours a day.
I've only played for 18 hours so far and only got to the second rampage quest. I do all the missions though. I don't just rush everything to get to endgame.

You do you but rushing to end game means you can do talisman melding/side requests which makes each hunt more worth your time.
Fellas how do I lance? I got like 3 gainsgolem spires in one hunt and I heard the abyssal icicle was far and away the ebst lance so I made it and hunted 3 shitter monsters with it but I don't feel like I know what I'm doing beyond spiral thrusting and blocking.
I'm not a Lance veteran, but I've been using anchor rage and parry a lot. Also my poke bread and butter is simply poke 3x then shield charge to cancel into poking again.
To build off this anon's question, what's a good Lance set? I feel like I'm doing no damage
The big thing now is get Shield Tackle switch skill equipped and at least Guard 3/Guard Up 1. You can do it in place of any attack as fast as another poke, it guards during it, does decent damage, it'll go anywhere you point it (even full 180) so you can reorient yourself with it, and resets your triple poke combos like dodging does.
It pretty much means you never have to stop attacking, just shield tackle through every attack and keep stabbing, or shield charge through to close some distance. If a monster's downed or their weak spot's on ground level, some of your best standard damage dealing is charged sweep > poke > charged sweep > tackle > repeat.
Twin Vines can be fun to get you to really mobile monsters and gives you an effective +2 Guard skill, Sheathing Retreat can also be used for mobility since you can jump backwards towards an enemy and air-dash anywhere you want during it, and Anchor Rage powers up your lance for a while based on how strong an attack it blocks too.
Spiral Thrust is old and busted now. I really only use it for mounting damage, or stacking buffs with Anchor Rage (the particles look cool when combined). Learn your instablock timings since the buff makes it hit hard as frick. Grab Shield Tackle for raw and become the wall you were always built to be, or Guard Dash for element so you can spam Leaping Thrust. Also, people are shitting on Skyward Thrust but it's really not that bad if the monster is tall enough to get all 3 descending hits on. Also keep in mind that Twin Vines gives you a free +2 guard now for just being tethered to the monster.
Anchor Rage+Offensive Guard for stacking 15% damage buffs
Spam pokes constantly, reset with hops/charged counters/guard dashes
Charged slaps are strong where you can fit them in but obviously they're low to the ground so not always worth it when they'll hit something off target
There is no downside to using Instant Block now that they lessened the control jank it introduces

Do I need to have a completely different armour and weapon depending on the monster resist if I go elemental though? Or can you stick with a single element?
You need one weapon per element, one armor set per element, and you need to start hitting elemental hitzones. And you need to figure out if those zones are worthwhile or you're better off with raw.
That homosexual monkey with the rock arms is like 10 lightning on every zone so why bother.

A 10% increase in element is worse than pretty much anything raw related.

Crit element barely got changes in sunbreak. Currently ele weapons are better than raw on the right target, but for the most part it's not worth going pass 5 levels of ele attack over crit boost and attack boost 4
If you're going elemental IG, you'll definitely want Tetraseal Slash instead of Tornado Slash, and to use a Severing kinsect instead of Blunt. Both do a lot more elemental damage than the alternative.
Their armour and hair ornament is different.
But that isn't needed as you can easily tell the difference just from their facial expression alone.
Hinoa is the smiling happy bubly one while Minoto is the serious, kind and VERY cute one.
Hinoa:
sloped eyes, soft expression, one hair tie, eats a lot, sits in the village, very big-sisterly.
Minoto:
sharp eyes, stiff expression, two hair ties, paints occasionally, sits in the hub. Serious but very insecure
fun fact: monster hunter G currently has working online via emulation, its a bit of a tricky thing to set up with a weird hack and having to blindly fill in a bunch of ill-loaded japanese menus, but you can play it all functionally. Hope you like right stick combat and claw grip for camera
I genuinely don't see a point in playing pre-FU MH now.
FU has basically everything the previous games had while also having significantly improved gameplay.
F2 was a very isolating experience since you had no cat. Almost zen-like, only you and the monsters. I'd imagine something similar could apply to Gen 1
FU's gameplay improvements are arguable. 2nd gen in general came with a huge boost to monster damage over 1st gen, and FU being a portable game means it has the more grindy arcadey balancing of portable team. it did make a lot of quality of life improvements but I think most of those were present in earlier 2nd gen, not just FU? I know FU has some specific to it but I can't remember. I will say I like basically every 2nd gen monster more than 1st gen monsters aside from subspecies and the frontier ports, although I still love basarios/gravios a lot, but Shen Gaoren is my all time favourite and he's 2nd gen exclusive so it wins for sure in terms of roster.
MH1 has a lot of rough things to get used to, and some of the monsters are just worse fights [you wont believe how much worse rathalos was before 2nd gen/FU] but it's got its own charm I really appreciate.
Speaking of -- did Capcom post anything new from her? I think I remember seeing somewhere that they will be posting more of Minato's pictures in the leadup to the launch of Sunbreak but I haven't seen anything posted in the threads I've been in.
Is Blast a good ailment for hammer? I didn't do much grinding after beating Narwa so I've just been rocking my Teostra hammer and armor set through MR1 and MR2. I can't upgrade the fricking thing until I hit HR100 and can get some Valstrax drops.
Courage hammer is all that I play. Is strength worth using? I really rely on the mobility allowed by courage hammer letting you roll while still maintaining a charge.
Strength allows you to do some hit and runs in blue mode since the moving L3 Charge is a running super pound instead of spinning, and the stationary one does a lot of damage pretty quick too.
Try out the Keeping Sway switch skill. It has iframes through most of it, lets you move pretty quick, costs 1 wirebug but recharges super fast (practically free to use), and keeps your charge level during it.

Cancel a discharge to charge the shield.
Build phials.
Discharge on the monster. You can enter discharge cold or from a successful block/guardpoint, or from axehopper.
This is your loop, the finesse of the weapon is now going through that build spend loop as quickly as possible and not whiffing.
Something a friend of mine noted is that it's now very hard to aim your discharge slightly left or right, it tends to go maximally left or right. So don't input directions while you're doing it and just aim prior to entering the animation.

Luchika is pretty busted since she's ranged, never runs out of ammo, and never stops attacking. All my hunts with her always end up with all parts broken so she's useful if I'm farming for maximum yield. You can also change your follower's weapons, too, to spice things up a bit. But yeah, the point of them is largely the spectacle of fighting with your NPC allies rather than them just being a disembodied text box. They put a surprising amount of work into them, too. Wyvern riding aside, their AI is not bad. Each follower behaves a little differently. They'll heal you and wake you up on stuns (Luchika throws a barrel bomb at you, even). There are also little things like commenting on your actions/item usage, reacting to team hits, pointing your camera at them, gesturing, etc.
ehh I love the npc allies as they're multiplayer replacements and them dying doesn't affect you.
it was found out their stats are way nerfed though, so they mostly only exist as distractions for the monster

I'm not going to waste money buying the vanilla game on two platforms. So I wated with the pc version for sunbreak.
Even still, SB has been out over a month now, LR to HR should take like 3 days if you're slow.
I only started playing it a week ago because I was still playing another game.
I also don't play for 10 hours a day.
I've only played for 18 hours so far and only got to the second rampage quest. I do all the missions though. I don't just rush everything to get to endgame.
You do you but rushing to end game means you can do talisman melding/side requests which makes each hunt more worth your time.

Fellas how do I lance? I got like 3 gainsgolem spires in one hunt and I heard the abyssal icicle was far and away the ebst lance so I made it and hunted 3 shitter monsters with it but I don't feel like I know what I'm doing beyond spiral thrusting and blocking.

That's basically all there is to lance.
I'm not a Lance veteran, but I've been using anchor rage and parry a lot. Also my poke bread and butter is simply poke 3x then shield charge to cancel into poking again.
To build off this anon's question, what's a good Lance set? I feel like I'm doing no damage
The big thing now is get Shield Tackle switch skill equipped and at least Guard 3/Guard Up 1. You can do it in place of any attack as fast as another poke, it guards during it, does decent damage, it'll go anywhere you point it (even full 180) so you can reorient yourself with it, and resets your triple poke combos like dodging does.
It pretty much means you never have to stop attacking, just shield tackle through every attack and keep stabbing, or shield charge through to close some distance. If a monster's downed or their weak spot's on ground level, some of your best standard damage dealing is charged sweep > poke > charged sweep > tackle > repeat.
Twin Vines can be fun to get you to really mobile monsters and gives you an effective +2 Guard skill, Sheathing Retreat can also be used for mobility since you can jump backwards towards an enemy and air-dash anywhere you want during it, and Anchor Rage powers up your lance for a while based on how strong an attack it blocks too.
Why do you use guard dash now that shield tackle exists?
It's good for KO on monsters with low heads but comes at the cost of mobility
The guarding dash doesn't use the same input or anything, it's good to close more distance than guard tackle covers.
Spiral Thrust is old and busted now. I really only use it for mounting damage, or stacking buffs with Anchor Rage (the particles look cool when combined). Learn your instablock timings since the buff makes it hit hard as frick. Grab Shield Tackle for raw and become the wall you were always built to be, or Guard Dash for element so you can spam Leaping Thrust. Also, people are shitting on Skyward Thrust but it's really not that bad if the monster is tall enough to get all 3 descending hits on. Also keep in mind that Twin Vines gives you a free +2 guard now for just being tethered to the monster.

You need one weapon per element, one armor set per element, and you need to start hitting elemental hitzones. And you need to figure out if those zones are worthwhile or you're better off with raw.

Yeah stormsoul and esoteric stuff like that means you're incentivized to make a ton of sets.
Narwa/ibushi, teostra and kushala's armor skills squeeze out more damage for each element. That said 1 set with 5 lv1 slots is still alright

Crit element barely got changes in sunbreak. Currently ele weapons are better than raw on the right target, but for the most part it's not worth going pass 5 levels of ele attack over crit boost and attack boost 4
If you're going elemental IG, you'll definitely want Tetraseal Slash instead of Tornado Slash, and to use a Severing kinsect instead of Blunt. Both do a lot more elemental damage than the alternative.

fun fact: monster hunter G currently has working online via emulation, its a bit of a tricky thing to set up with a weird hack and having to blindly fill in a bunch of ill-loaded japanese menus, but you can play it all functionally. Hope you like right stick combat and claw grip for camera
I genuinely don't see a point in playing pre-FU MH now.
FU has basically everything the previous games had while also having significantly improved gameplay.
F2 was a very isolating experience since you had no cat. Almost zen-like, only you and the monsters. I'd imagine something similar could apply to Gen 1
FU's gameplay improvements are arguable. 2nd gen in general came with a huge boost to monster damage over 1st gen, and FU being a portable game means it has the more grindy arcadey balancing of portable team. it did make a lot of quality of life improvements but I think most of those were present in earlier 2nd gen, not just FU? I know FU has some specific to it but I can't remember. I will say I like basically every 2nd gen monster more than 1st gen monsters aside from subspecies and the frontier ports, although I still love basarios/gravios a lot, but Shen Gaoren is my all time favourite and he's 2nd gen exclusive so it wins for sure in terms of roster.
MH1 has a lot of rough things to get used to, and some of the monsters are just worse fights [you wont believe how much worse rathalos was before 2nd gen/FU] but it's got its own charm I really appreciate.

Is Blast a good ailment for hammer? I didn't do much grinding after beating Narwa so I've just been rocking my Teostra hammer and armor set through MR1 and MR2. I can't upgrade the fricking thing until I hit HR100 and can get some Valstrax drops.
It's pretty good for Courage Hammer
Courage hammer is all that I play. Is strength worth using? I really rely on the mobility allowed by courage hammer letting you roll while still maintaining a charge.
Damage is comparable but I like the low commitment of courage more with sunbreak. Im not sure in IB or IC is better though.
Strength allows you to do some hit and runs in blue mode since the moving L3 Charge is a running super pound instead of spinning, and the stationary one does a lot of damage pretty quick too.
Try out the Keeping Sway switch skill. It has iframes through most of it, lets you move pretty quick, costs 1 wirebug but recharges super fast (practically free to use), and keeps your charge level during it.

how the actual frick do you even use charge blade, this feels like the most clunky and imprecise weapon i've ever used in a video game
Sword exists to charge up phials.
Cancel a discharge to charge the shield.
Build phials.
Discharge on the monster. You can enter discharge cold or from a successful block/guardpoint, or from axehopper.
This is your loop, the finesse of the weapon is now going through that build spend loop as quickly as possible and not whiffing.
Something a friend of mine noted is that it's now very hard to aim your discharge slightly left or right, it tends to go maximally left or right. So don't input directions while you're doing it and just aim prior to entering the animation.
I choose Hinoa, Minoto, Yomogi, Komitsu, Fiorayne, Luchika and Chichae.

Luchika is pretty busted since she's ranged, never runs out of ammo, and never stops attacking. All my hunts with her always end up with all parts broken so she's useful if I'm farming for maximum yield. You can also change your follower's weapons, too, to spice things up a bit. But yeah, the point of them is largely the spectacle of fighting with your NPC allies rather than them just being a disembodied text box. They put a surprising amount of work into them, too. Wyvern riding aside, their AI is not bad. Each follower behaves a little differently. They'll heal you and wake you up on stuns (Luchika throws a barrel bomb at you, even). There are also little things like commenting on your actions/item usage, reacting to team hits, pointing your camera at them, gesturing, etc.
I like them better than online
ehh I love the npc allies as they're multiplayer replacements and them dying doesn't affect you.
it was found out their stats are way nerfed though, so they mostly only exist as distractions for the monster
