Maybe on the unclothed bodies. I dunno if they can do so readily across the board, because they also have gloves of various lengths, with quite a few being different degrees of fingerless, and they're not upping the polycount of any armor, so that means they'd have to try and fit circular fingers with hexagonal gloves. Which they can kind of do if the fingers can be wedged into the holes, but they probably don't want to deal with that.

It's a PBR pass and rounding out polygons. You can notice it on clothes in some close-ups too, the Paladin AF has more polys on the collar. They're pretty much making something that looks PS4/XBO era more in close-up shots, versus before where the polygons were literally PS3 era and sometimes worse.

nah, that's an outdoor evening scene setting and the lighting is fine in that setting even in the current version of the game. what you really need to test is a dark indoor location with overhead lighting, like the rising stones or any cavern dungeon

The Hrothgar were still clearly WiP at that point and they were experimenting with fur shaders and the effect wasn't great. The femhroth preview is probably closer to what we're getting.

Stormblood has pacing issues because of the split between locales in Ala Mhigo / Othard, and the Othard part is generally considered to be superior (especially Ishikawa's Azim Steppe). The patch series and having the 4.3 culmination be centered on Yotsuyu/Tsukiyomi also just didn't hit as hard as Nidhogg/Estinien did in HW or Elidibus in ShB.
It's one of the less promising things about Dawntrail too, because that story will also be split between South Tural and North Tural by different writers so people fear the same pacing issues and differences in writing quality.
Story is far from being the sole reason why Othard was more liked than Ala, environment-wise alone, the 3 maps of Othard were way more interesting than Uldah deserts mkII.

I think the split will be fine, it's unreasonable to expect Tural would have an entire expac for one part of it as that'd be like having North Ilsabard being an expac and south ilsabard being an expac. I do think there is going to be a major disconnect in the quality, but less due to pacing and more due to them being terrible at 'political' plots. So South Tural and the succession is going to be ass but North Tural and Solution 9 will be good.

Right. There was nothing to distinguish the first and second ala mhigan zones save a tiny bit of the neat autumn-y vibe of the Gridanian outskirts. They could have given us some snow-capped Himalayas, Shangri-La, but instead it was mud mud more mud.

Lyse feels like she should be developing as a character but they flush it down the toilet (THE TEMPERED LAMIAS TRIED TO TEMPER US? WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING?) and put Raubahn in her position almost immediately
The story isn't BAD perse, but the pacing was horrible and it gets bogged down in really shitty subplots and parts that you wish would just end. Also there's more than a few VERY unlikeable characters that get way too much screen time. Music is eh. There are some good songs particularly some of the zone music, but the battle music and a lot of the dungeon music is worse than HW. Every expansion has music that either hits or misses though.
The content is arguably some of the best in the game and there's more of it than any other expansion. Great dungeons and lots of them, amazing trials (honestly the best the game has seen until EW), The omega raids aren't all that good but some were great like Exdeath and Kefka savage. Alliance raids were amazing and imo way better than the Nier raids. Then there's Eureka (which blows the absolute frick out of Bozja) and all the other side content we got that absolutely dwarfed most other expansions. Then there's all the other new stuff like gear/armor sets, outfits, emotes, housing items, etc. which end up being more than all other expansions AND all original (unlike the dozens of reskins from ShB/EW).
StB was the single biggest content expansion xiv has ever seen, and most of the content it added was great. ShB was relatively barebones by comparison, and a lot of the content EW added has fallen flat on it's face (Variant dungeons, Island Sanctuary). I get why a lot of people dislike StB and they're right in a way, but they're wrong if they think it isn't the best expansion the game has seen despite all of it's shortcomings.

I built a new PC around these specs for the recommended except got a 306012gb and not a 20606gb, Currently getting 140fps in Limsa limited to my monitors refresh rate.
The contrast from Old Ifrit to 16's Ifrit was so jarring but in a good way. It was definitely them showing off this is what we did before but this is what we're capable of doing now.
All the crossover models looked great, it shows they have the talent to do it now in game so I'm very hopeful for DT.
So far, Clive's model and textures look better than the graphical update. More grit, less smooth. (I know the texture resolution for Clive's stuff is still low)
Because they've learned new techniques since working on ff16 and are applying them into 14. They said that almost word for word at the UK fanfest, the developer panel with the main dev overseeing the graphical update, Yoshida and two other devs present.
Liking has nothing to do with it, 90% of images you save from the web these days are .webp by default, and always converting to use them on Ganker is a hassle.
I hope some of the environmental lighting changes we see in screenshots are indicative of them reworking how that actual part of engine works, and not purely them doing manual touchups on in-game locations.
Housing, for instance, really needs better lighting at the engine level. I understand that dynamic lighting is hard, but the current solution with stuff like light-emitting furniture can look really unnatural at times. You can put down a lantern between two custom walls/partitions, and see that its light just creates separate circles on both walls instead of cleanly illuminating the corner where they intersect, for instance.
I want to see more classic gear/areas and their graphics updates. There is still good looking ARR gear and I would love to see if they updated weapon textures as well including the zodiac ones.
It'll all get updated with time, but it's roll outs. Like how EW updated pre-ShB dungeons for duty support compatibility, DT is going to be doing that for updating the whole game backwards.
I envy the sprouts two years from now who will be able to go through all the MSQ cutscenes without being randomly distracted by closeups on low-res pixelated armor/foliage/hair/etc.
Looking at the Il Mheg improvements makes me consider waiting to level some of the classes/jobs I have left so I have a reason to frolic in the flowers after the update.

I was going through some of the old ARR sets and I still think the gear sets from Coils looks great and the old Heavy Allagan Armors look good but definitely need an uplift. Looking forward to seeing how they look with the new coat of paint.
I still think the PVP armours are some of the best in the game, people sleep on PVP because it doesn't have the same community scene like Raiding does.
Did you reconsider? I also quitted after clearing TOP but I returned to do Criterion Savage and it's been fun so far.

Not really, I've been feeling very lukewarm about the game for a very long time by then. Westwolves doesn't really appeal to me so far, it's promising a grand adventure in a new mystery land in a game whose entire format can't deliver on that promise.
They've been saying some right things but I just can't be bothered with this stale shit anymore, Endwalker is a nice place to stop anyway

I know of them but I use translation plugins, they translate live on Youtube. It's not perfect but I get the general just of what's being said.

I'm glad that Dawntrail is moving its design philosophy away from how aggressively anti-fun Endwalker was, and this would've never happened if players didn't spend the last 2 years complaining loudly about current design even while brand loyal morons like you worked to shout everyone down.
This doesn't change the fact that Dawntrail is the most delayed expansion in the game's history. 6.5 will be 9 months old by the time DT releases. 5.5 lasted only 220 days and that was with Endwalker suffering from COVID delays. This is concerning and if you cannot see why then you're moronic.
Yoshida has spoken about regretting how utterly lacking in stress/tension FFXIV's design has become, has made comments about trying to make combat more exciting and less rote, and garbage solo content like Island Sanctuary is being retired to bring back a multiplayer focus that Endwalker severely lacked.
Unfortunately bad job design seems to still be locked in for the foreseeable future. I suspect that they know the current job design paradigm is shit, but because their job design team is like 5 people (and hasn't grown at all since ARR), revamping every single job at the same time is beyond their current capacity.
This game is woefully understaffed for being as big as it is. I suspect Square Enix is trying to see how little they can put into the game and get away with it.

So in reality, nothing really changed except that Dawntrail has a bonus foray on top of exactly the same amount of content Endwalker offered. Endwalker players get more of the same and then a foray on top if that is something they care about, and they can ignore it if they don't.

You know very well that by "Island Sanctuary" I don't mean the specific storyline framing this minigame was given in Heavensward. Deep dungeons are all the same game mode despite having multiple iterations throughout expansions. The concept of Island Sanctuary as a solo-oriented sweatshop farm is being terminated: Cosmic Exploration may carry some elements from it, but its unlikely going to be a solo cookie clicker.

I think they just need to stop reading feedback on balance for an expansion. Trying to balance this game so hard is what has made class design samey and encounters predictable. I'm not saying we should go back to HW but let some jobs shine during certain fights and others shine during other fights.

Yeah I'm not saying the current is ideal. Just saying that going full into unique and different is liable to cause problems the other way around and have people complaining about that.
Balance is, in essence, still a necessity. It's easy to handwave if it doesn't apply to you, but people will absolutely break the house down worse than they ever did in EW if their job performs so bad it basically isn't viable and won't be taken into raids/ultimates. The cries about "muh homogenization" will look like minor whimpering by comparison.
It's just about finding a middle ground, which can be difficult.

Heavensward had great combat design starting from 3.2, extremely uneven job design quality (Heavensward PLD was a crime against humanity, Heavensward DRK was extremely fun), and had very little content overall. It also solidified that open world areas would always be empty with nothing to do with them and dungeons would always be hallways.
These are the objective facts. "Heavensward was horrible dogshit and ALMOST KILLED LE GAME" and "Heavensward was the best expansion ever and literally flawless" are both moronic opinions.

God I miss old final fantasy so much. I played some Crystal Chronicles on my friends gamecube the other day. The gameplay isn't great, but the simplicity and elegance of design in the older Square games were just so much better. New FF games just feel like they smashed too much shit into them, why does everything have to be so... Extra. What happened to fantastic but simple designs. Yes. Venatschizo was always a single angry moron. It wasn't making fun of trancers that convinced me of this, it was the consistent behavior of trying to derail XIV threads with twitter screenshots to argue about petty fandom drama. Everybody else in these threads is multiple individuals who simply have similar opinions on a variety of subjects.
It's all well and good to make fun of trancers. They formed a weird bubble around themselves and managed to take their dislike of certain elements of Endwalker's plot into the most psychotic, extreme direction imaginable. I believe pic related explains why they ended up this way.

I was arguing with you earlier but I condemn and distance myself from the frayschizo. I do not endorse his conspiracy theories. I merely doom because I like this game and Endwalker let me down in many ways. I want FFXIV to be as fun as it was in Stormblood, not for it to die.
Yoshida has spoken about regretting how utterly lacking in stress/tension FFXIV's design has become, has made comments about trying to make combat more exciting and less rote, and garbage solo content like Island Sanctuary is being retired to bring back a multiplayer focus that Endwalker severely lacked.

Yeah that's me. I'm just very let down by Endwalker but have some hope that Dawntrail can bring back my interest in this game. I don't think I'll ever maintain a constant subscription again but it'd be nice to occasionally drop in every few months and play, which is what I tried to do in Endwalker but even then it just wasn't fun enough for me.

I enjoyed EW just fine for the type of gameplay I do (only log in and play when I feel like pursuing something, which is why I don't care for something like Bozja), so I can't really chime in there. If DT is basically like Endwalker + more, then it's good to me.
The only thing I worry about is the story. I really don't care for Wut Lmao (or the VA)
It's going to look like shit because the art direction is bad and will always age poorly. The attempt to keep the game running on toasters (necessary for an MMO) while straddling the line between semi-realistic and anime fantasy means that zones will always look like a PS3 era attempt at photorealism.
Yeah. It looks fine. Moreover, it looks consistent, because they were smart enough to not make ShB and EW zones so considerably higher fidelity than ARR ones. Which means that a flat improvement of everything should be way easier.
Honestly, the biggest problem with XIV zones in my opinion is the lighting and maybe secondarily the materials and the fact that currently, every material is basically the same, creating no distinction in terrain. Tertiary is the lack of antialiasing (RIP. DT doesn't seem to improve that even though XIV could really use it) and then last comes the actual meshes and design.
Basically just requires use of a second or third texture to cover up the seams and create visual asymmetry.
It's funny because at... was it EU or JP FanFest, they had this whole spiel about how they did that in Endwalker. It's hardly anything new in gaming, but it does mean they know about it.
I doubt they'll touch it with the graphical update, but they very easily could, and have the tools.

There's still a lot of really fricked up texture tiling in Endwalker terrain. Take a stroll around Labyrinthos and look at the rock cliffs surrounding you and you will see it.

and I just wanted to return with a picture of what I meant. They were going into that whole long-winded explanation about how they do texturing, and explaining how they blend it together.
Obviously, this is nothing new. It's age old to the point that I did it myself with Unreal Engine at art school, and it existed long before that, even. But at least they sort of acknowledge that you gotta do something about tiling, even if they can be slackers with it. I doubt it, but someone should really point them at all the awkward tiling in older zones and tell them to fix it up, because it is pretty awkward.
The only thing I'm sad about regarding the update is that the first look we got at hyur guys looked way better.
So I guess they downgraded that at some point. Pity. It's still an improvement, and it doesn't seem to detract from any other DT features. But I can't help but think it could've been better. Guess we'll see with the LL. I've long been waiting to see everything in the same client at once, rather than isolated shots of particular features apart from each other.
That also adheres to the art style for the most part.

I kind of agree with you. I've been almost every race under the sun at this point, currently a male lala because I wanted to try out being tiny. It's cool but I'm thinking of reverting to a malezen come DT because the updates look cool and it's generally my favorite race.

Yoshida is probably referring to the backend work done for compatibility on male viera and (assumedly) female hrothgar, though we only have Wuk Lamat wearing a turban to actually point to on the latter front. Male vieras handle the whole "ears occupy the head slot and special hat variants have to be made to accommodate viera" thing a lot better. For both races it's a bit sticky since male hrothgars need snouts modeled on a lot of helmets to accommodate their head shape, and viera just need ear holes in general because many, many, many, many, many hats and helmets look like complete shit if the ears are allowed to clip.
I'm just wondering what "measures" can be done. So I assumed some sort of more automated system.

Anyway, "fixing" helmets for any one race isn't really an endeavor that demands a lot of skill. Just time and a lot of boring manual work.
There have been some changes, but the game hasn't ever fundamentally been changed. If you didn't like it in ARR, or StB, or ShB/EW, you won't ever like it, and that's fine. That was what my point was meant to be, at least. >Bard had a cast-bar for some reason.

ARR hard dungeons are my favorite in the game because you've gained enough abilities by the time you can do them for your job to activate a neuron and the devs weren't complete pussies at the time so not only can they kill you, they probably will in some of them (Tam-Tara Hard). Most of them are also optional so you don't have to worry about them getting gutted so newbies can do them with trusts.
Man the dungeon design in this game is tragic.

Building a PC is just legos, get a Ryzen R7 5800X3D CPU and a motherboard that's compatible with it, then get whatever GPU you can afford. Get an 80+ bronze PSU minimum and, ideally, get 32GB of RAM, but 16GB still works these days. Reuse your current chassis if you can. Ganker has loads of resources for easily pirating Windows, or you can use Arch Linux and install Steam for something effectively identical to SteamOS (there are also some distros floating around with the aim of cloning SteamOS in its entirety). Note if you go Linux you'll want to go full AMD on the GPU as well since community driver support is amazing on Linux. AMD's own drivers on Windows are still good but their GPUs are known for being a bit crash prone.
Playstation version supports keyboard and mouse if that's what you're worried about. You can even import your current PC UI settings to it. Don't know about the Xbox version.

I dunno if they can do so readily across the board, because they also have gloves of various lengths, with quite a few being different degrees of fingerless, and they're not upping the polycount of any armor, so that means they'd have to try and fit circular fingers with hexagonal gloves. Which they can kind of do if the fingers can be wedged into the holes, but they probably don't want to deal with that.

It's a PBR pass and rounding out polygons. You can notice it on clothes in some close-ups too, the Paladin AF has more polys on the collar. They're pretty much making something that looks PS4/XBO era more in close-up shots, versus before where the polygons were literally PS3 era and sometimes worse.

nah, that's an outdoor evening scene setting and the lighting is fine in that setting even in the current version of the game. what you really need to test is a dark indoor location with overhead lighting, like the rising stones or any cavern dungeon

I for one can't wait for people to cry about how their janky, weirdly shaded dollies are now ruined because the meshes are ~20% less angular, the skin actually looks like something halfway pliable and the lighting isn't an inconsistent mess that leaves half the face completely eclipsed as if it were a horror movie.
The Hrothgar were still clearly WiP at that point and they were experimenting with fur shaders and the effect wasn't great. The femhroth preview is probably closer to what we're getting.

Finally at Shadowbringers as of tonight. What's with the hate for Stormblood? That was a 10/10 story and experience and had especially good music.
A lot of people think it had solid content but hate the story as a follow up to Heavensward. Personally I just did not care for Lyse.

Stormblood has pacing issues because of the split between locales in Ala Mhigo / Othard, and the Othard part is generally considered to be superior (especially Ishikawa's Azim Steppe). The patch series and having the 4.3 culmination be centered on Yotsuyu/Tsukiyomi also just didn't hit as hard as Nidhogg/Estinien did in HW or Elidibus in ShB.
It's one of the less promising things about Dawntrail too, because that story will also be split between South Tural and North Tural by different writers so people fear the same pacing issues and differences in writing quality.

I think the split will be fine, it's unreasonable to expect Tural would have an entire expac for one part of it as that'd be like having North Ilsabard being an expac and south ilsabard being an expac. I do think there is going to be a major disconnect in the quality, but less due to pacing and more due to them being terrible at 'political' plots. So South Tural and the succession is going to be ass but North Tural and Solution 9 will be good.

The story isn't BAD perse, but the pacing was horrible and it gets bogged down in really shitty subplots and parts that you wish would just end. Also there's more than a few VERY unlikeable characters that get way too much screen time. Music is eh. There are some good songs particularly some of the zone music, but the battle music and a lot of the dungeon music is worse than HW. Every expansion has music that either hits or misses though.
The content is arguably some of the best in the game and there's more of it than any other expansion. Great dungeons and lots of them, amazing trials (honestly the best the game has seen until EW), The omega raids aren't all that good but some were great like Exdeath and Kefka savage. Alliance raids were amazing and imo way better than the Nier raids. Then there's Eureka (which blows the absolute frick out of Bozja) and all the other side content we got that absolutely dwarfed most other expansions. Then there's all the other new stuff like gear/armor sets, outfits, emotes, housing items, etc. which end up being more than all other expansions AND all original (unlike the dozens of reskins from ShB/EW).
StB was the single biggest content expansion xiv has ever seen, and most of the content it added was great. ShB was relatively barebones by comparison, and a lot of the content EW added has fallen flat on it's face (Variant dungeons, Island Sanctuary). I get why a lot of people dislike StB and they're right in a way, but they're wrong if they think it isn't the best expansion the game has seen despite all of it's shortcomings.

Because they've learned new techniques since working on ff16 and are applying them into 14. They said that almost word for word at the UK fanfest, the developer panel with the main dev overseeing the graphical update, Yoshida and two other devs present.

Liking has nothing to do with it, 90% of images you save from the web these days are .webp by default, and always converting to use them on Ganker is a hassle.
I hope some of the environmental lighting changes we see in screenshots are indicative of them reworking how that actual part of engine works, and not purely them doing manual touchups on in-game locations.
Housing, for instance, really needs better lighting at the engine level. I understand that dynamic lighting is hard, but the current solution with stuff like light-emitting furniture can look really unnatural at times. You can put down a lantern between two custom walls/partitions, and see that its light just creates separate circles on both walls instead of cleanly illuminating the corner where they intersect, for instance.

I want to see more classic gear/areas and their graphics updates. There is still good looking ARR gear and I would love to see if they updated weapon textures as well including the zodiac ones.
It'll all get updated with time, but it's roll outs. Like how EW updated pre-ShB dungeons for duty support compatibility, DT is going to be doing that for updating the whole game backwards.
They're starting at ARR and EW and working in towards Stormblood from both ends in the patches.
I envy the sprouts two years from now who will be able to go through all the MSQ cutscenes without being randomly distracted by closeups on low-res pixelated armor/foliage/hair/etc.

I suspect that they know the current job design paradigm is shit, but because their job design team is like 5 people (and hasn't grown at all since ARR), revamping every single job at the same time is beyond their current capacity.
This game is woefully understaffed for being as big as it is. I suspect Square Enix is trying to see how little they can put into the game and get away with it.

The premise that Island Sanctuary was brutally executed because YoshiP acknowledged it was a flop and therefore all Endwalker enjoyers lost and got owned just because they didn't further work on it in Dawntrail is as patently absurd as the assertion that Ishgard Restoration was a flop for the same reasons. Heavensward had great combat design starting from 3.2, extremely uneven job design quality (Heavensward PLD was a crime against humanity, Heavensward DRK was extremely fun), and had very little content overall. It also solidified that open world areas would always be empty with nothing to do with them and dungeons would always be hallways.

God I miss old final fantasy so much. I played some Crystal Chronicles on my friends gamecube the other day. The gameplay isn't great, but the simplicity and elegance of design in the older Square games were just so much better. 1.General Language and tactics are quite similar to language and tactics deployed against XIV critics today. They’re naming of victims seems quite similar, often using tard at the end of a victims faction name such as Doomtard and Zodiarktard. They also utilized “therapy sessions” and “armchair psychology” against detractors. Noticeably, they seem quite obsessed with the words “over-identification”, to the point where they had previously used it in the title of one of their posts, and are making much use of the word in current posts again Endwalker detractors. Also, both the official forum shill and the zodiark hunters make much use of the phrase “don’t feed the trolls. All this tied together provides strong evidence that zodiark hunters have now started hunting endwalker detractors for low cows.
2,Bridging between their tactics and capabilities, it has been observed that they are able to utilize ambush tactics in both Ganker and threads they have specifically set up to lure in the players of the faction they targeting. They have done this previously multiple times, and are now doing this with endwalker detractors. On top of this, the zodiark hunters seem to be able to raid discord servers and seen in the archived threads. All of this indicates that there are in fact multiple organized individuals engaging in these activities. The revelation that these individuals are in fact a cabal of discord kiddies turning Ganker into their own lol cow hunting ground is indeed a troubling one.

3. The mental health of these individuals seem to quite dire. one of these individuals have projected the image of their 15 year old dork ass self unto me. Yeah that's me. I'm just very let down by Endwalker but have some hope that Dawntrail can bring back my interest in this game. I don't think I'll ever maintain a constant subscription again but it'd be nice to occasionally drop in every few months and play, which is what I tried to do in Endwalker but even then it just wasn't fun enough for me.
I enjoyed EW just fine for the type of gameplay I do (only log in and play when I feel like pursuing something, which is why I don't care for something like Bozja), so I can't really chime in there. If DT is basically like Endwalker + more, then it's good to me.
The only thing I worry about is the story. I really don't care for Wut Lmao (or the VA)

It's going to look like shit because the art direction is bad and will always age poorly. The attempt to keep the game running on toasters (necessary for an MMO) while straddling the line between semi-realistic and anime fantasy means that zones will always look like a PS3 era attempt at photorealism.

Yeah. It looks fine. Moreover, it looks consistent, because they were smart enough to not make ShB and EW zones so considerably higher fidelity than ARR ones. Which means that a flat improvement of everything should be way easier.
Honestly, the biggest problem with XIV zones in my opinion is the lighting and maybe secondarily the materials and the fact that currently, every material is basically the same, creating no distinction in terrain. Tertiary is the lack of antialiasing (RIP. DT doesn't seem to improve that even though XIV could really use it) and then last comes the actual meshes and design.

The tiling is really fricked up here. A texture facelift won't fix this.
Basically just requires use of a second or third texture to cover up the seams and create visual asymmetry.
It's funny because at... was it EU or JP FanFest, they had this whole spiel about how they did that in Endwalker. It's hardly anything new in gaming, but it does mean they know about it.
I doubt they'll touch it with the graphical update, but they very easily could, and have the tools.
There's still a lot of really fricked up texture tiling in Endwalker terrain. Take a stroll around Labyrinthos and look at the rock cliffs surrounding you and you will see it.
Cliffs/mountains/rock in MMOs in general suffer from repetition and poor tiling.

Obviously, this is nothing new. It's age old to the point that I did it myself with Unreal Engine at art school, and it existed long before that, even. But at least they sort of acknowledge that you gotta do something about tiling, even if they can be slackers with it. I doubt it, but someone should really point them at all the awkward tiling in older zones and tell them to fix it up, because it is pretty awkward.

The only thing I'm sad about regarding the update is that the first look we got at hyur guys looked way better.
So I guess they downgraded that at some point. Pity. It's still an improvement, and it doesn't seem to detract from any other DT features. But I can't help but think it could've been better. Guess we'll see with the LL. I've long been waiting to see everything in the same client at once, rather than isolated shots of particular features apart from each other.

I don't like their idle animations and running animations personally, but the bodies are fine.
I play one because I mostly wear heavy armor glams and the middie princess run looks weird on a knight, viera can't wear hats without having to constantly update a big mod, and tails clip horribly through all gear with capes.
My obviously biased opinion is that they're underrated.
I kind of agree with you. I've been almost every race under the sun at this point, currently a male lala because I wanted to try out being tiny. It's cool but I'm thinking of reverting to a malezen come DT because the updates look cool and it's generally my favorite race.

Yoshida is probably referring to the backend work done for compatibility on male viera and (assumedly) female hrothgar, though we only have Wuk Lamat wearing a turban to actually point to on the latter front. Male vieras handle the whole "ears occupy the head slot and special hat variants have to be made to accommodate viera" thing a lot better. For both races it's a bit sticky since male hrothgars need snouts modeled on a lot of helmets to accommodate their head shape, and viera just need ear holes in general because many, many, many, many, many hats and helmets look like complete shit if the ears are allowed to clip.

This is a crock of shit. Currently, Hrothgar can wear more helmets than Viera. They even even wear the Elemental Armor helmet for frick's sake. Stop playing defense for Yoshipiss and call this for what it is. Laziness. All Square-Enix has to do is change one line of code, and Viera can literally wear any helmet in the game, no clipping needed. Bethesda mastered this in 20111. Fricking BETHESDA.

There have been some changes, but the game hasn't ever fundamentally been changed. If you didn't like it in ARR, or StB, or ShB/EW, you won't ever like it, and that's fine. That was what my point was meant to be, at least.

ARR hard dungeons are my favorite in the game because you've gained enough abilities by the time you can do them for your job to activate a neuron and the devs weren't complete pussies at the time so not only can they kill you, they probably will in some of them (Tam-Tara Hard). Most of them are also optional so you don't have to worry about them getting gutted so newbies can do them with trusts.
Man the dungeon design in this game is tragic.

Frick, I don't wanna play on xbox or Playstation but I have no idea how to build a pc that can run dawntrail without any problems. Also, when is the benchmark coming?
Building a PC is just legos, get a Ryzen R7 5800X3D CPU and a motherboard that's compatible with it, then get whatever GPU you can afford. Get an 80+ bronze PSU minimum and, ideally, get 32GB of RAM, but 16GB still works these days. Reuse your current chassis if you can. Ganker has loads of resources for easily pirating Windows, or you can use Arch Linux and install Steam for something effectively identical to SteamOS (there are also some distros floating around with the aim of cloning SteamOS in its entirety). Note if you go Linux you'll want to go full AMD on the GPU as well since community driver support is amazing on Linux. AMD's own drivers on Windows are still good but their GPUs are known for being a bit crash prone.
Playstation version supports keyboard and mouse if that's what you're worried about. You can even import your current PC UI settings to it. Don't know about the Xbox version.
