That fricking NCR ranger armor, I'd be so mad if I was Bethesda. The game series already had a recognizable signature armor with the power armor + helmet combo, specifically the t-45 after fallout 3, which is now practically the logo of the game.
With a single game Obsidian managed to create an armor style so cool that it became just as recognizable as any of the old power armors, but it had never appeared before in any game and never appeared afterwards. Obsidian created a cooler symbol for the franchise than what Bethesda had, but it didn't make sense to keep using it unless the story revolved around the NCR. They effectively just created brand confusion.

I think more that Bethesda shouldn't have let them use the ranger armor on the game's cover, it became arguably as iconic as the t-45 armor, but it's never used again so that's worth nothing. (probably actually damaging to brand recognition)
NCR has salvaged power armor, which they could have used directly or designed to be little cooler and slapped that on the cover, there's around as many of those guys in the game as there are actual rangers with ranger helmets so it would have made perfect sense.

That description also perfectly fits Ulysses outfit, it's not even close to a full recognizable design and doesn't even mention the iconic helmet. In game and in illustrations, the helmet and the gas mask aren't even detachable so calling it a gas mask doesn't make sense. The set didn't exist until Wesley Burt designed it somewhere around 2009.

Looking at the designs side by side, they aren't even that similar, the most striking similarity being the red eyes, which have very different shapes and the eye visors in New Vegas aren't usually even lit up red (other than the intro cinematic). Actually makes me wonder if the t-45 took any inspiration from the armor in Jin-Roh, the aesthetic of big dudes in big armor with big guns matches kind of perfectly, with Warhammer 40k being the obvious inspiration for the older t-51 with the more bucket shaped helmet.

Watch out with sorting mods by popularity, because a ton of them are obsolete since the introduction of newer ones, especially script-using mods. Outfits and weapons are fine can be fine when you do that, but old framework stuff like AKWCR should be avoided, go with ECO+LEO+NEO instead. Fusion Girl over CBBE too, CBBE should've died a long, long time ago, there is plenty of FG support anyway.
Ill probably just try the waifu mod, a survival difficulty mod, and infinite ammo for companion mod. My biggest gripe with this and all Bathesda games was their difficulty slider made 0 sense. Not as bad in this game as Oblivion, but then again what is.

The point is that it looks like shit, its blown apart gear thats been scavenged by starving farmers at the end of their rope. Assuming the costume was put on an actual NCR soldier instead of someone who literally scavenged it from a blast zone it would look fine, the issue is mostly the helmet is was clearly broken from the face plate and the farmer just put it on. To reiterate, youd complain just as much if they just gave NCR armor to a farmer instead of having the farmer where destroyed NCR gear, there is no winning

If you set up trade routes you can see the Minutemen patrolling them. And their numbers increase the more you help and build settlements.
Fallout 4's most irritating problem is that its factions as premises aren't necessarily bad ideas, except the Railroad, but they're done in the most painfully moronic way. The Minutemen is barely a faction, it's just a way to get the player to use the settlement building minigame. They do nothing with their supposed counterparts the Gunners, who end up just being another flavor of bandit.
The Institute is the most hilarious because it's obvious they never thought out a reason as to why the Institute would be LARPing Blade Runner and literally just say "you wouldn't get it." It makes Bethesda's most original idea for a faction a complete joke because they never bothered to give them actual goals.

There's a world of difference between a game set in Las Vegas or Washington DC and a game set in a portion of the Appalachian Mountains.
Fallout 3 was literally unplayable throughout the 2010's on PC. The stench of Fallout 3 is all over the god damn mod, from the BoS and Enclave being major factions, to an entire questline being an expanded clone of a Fallout 3 DLC. It's telling that the universally acknowledged best part of the mod is based around the faction original to NV. Frontier's devs clearly preferred Fallout 3, and it shows in just how miserable it is as an experience.

Fallout 3, 4 and 76 have always been the equivalent of a kid brother wearing their cooler older brothers clothes to fit in at a party, they are fine games, but there is a lot of small boneheaded decisions that lead to an inferior product, they are simply worse at designing games than the their contemporaries
You can see this same trend when a lot of the talent left after Morrowind, and even into Skyrim and the ultimate Bethesda owned shitshow Starfield, they just don't have the sauce anymore, their team is full of amateurs who treat game dev as homework and that shows in every product they release for the past 15 years

The rise of Elevenlabs probably fricked the whole thing. The devs were getting new VAs to replace the voices and then suddenly this tool that could perfectly mimic the old VAs probably threw a wrench into all that.
I don't think they're using Elevenlabs, only F4CW is doing that and they're only doing it to speed up development, they know most people will just port the voice files from 3
I anin't no expert on cpyright law but wasn't The USE of original voice acting was the reason the Capital Wastland got threatend and so these mods use community voice actors? That Elevenlabs stuff looks like a very thin line to walk on.

Actually yes. It would have been a lot of fun to see an unlikely main character. Also for survival in the desert a smaller body is better and if you're fighting with guns what does it matter if you're a manlet. Everyone else should have stayed the same so the main cast would have been an interracial gay couple and a kino ghoul played by an actual good actor. I dunno, OWB had great character writing but the Sink kinda sucks as an area, and all the labs get old quick.
The Divide still gives me pause when I explore it, it's a really, really cool area but also linear as frick.
There's a lot of good and bad with all the DLCs. But the worst offender is LR can be annoying to play through if Ulysses doesn't resonate with you at all.
A lot of my grievances with the Divide stem from Ulysses breaking the flow to talk gobblediasiatic every so often, and the uninteresting Marked Men that reside there. I didn't really care for the odd littering of nuke warheads that I was supposed to just detonate willy nilly, either.
The Think Tank is silly and stupid, but getting to know their past and the reveal with Mobius was genuinely interesting. I had no strong feelings toward Ulysses as a character whatsoever, I thought he was disappointing after so much build up as this 'second courier'
I still like the idea of the Marked Men, though they're not a particularly well thought-out brand of enemy. I feel like they would have killed and eaten eachother out of either necessity or madness by the time LR takes place.
