dust 1 really isn't, unless something has changed drastically. It was considered shit and unbalanced in both 1.6 and CSS, at least among the people I played with.
As for dust2, it's just a winning design. Memorable, simple, but with tactical depth. Even if professional play of it ends up being a bit overaggressive and "deathmatch-like".
They used to be in the game but got removed for whatever reason
I hate that the map pool has stagnated so much. bring back cobble, aztec and add more maps while you're at it. old classics? fresh new ones? just fricking do it volvo. and make the pros play them too. if I were an oil baron, I'd host a million dollar tournament with only new maps and give everyone like a month to train them before the tournament begins.
yeah and they never bothered to bring them back for the matchmaking. then again, they only have like 2 devs on the game just fixing bugs and community to make the skins so I guess that's to be expected. csgo is a fun game but I wish they did something with it.
> if I were an oil baron, I'd host a million dollar tournament with only new maps and give everyone like a month to train them before the tournament begins.
probably the reason why you'll never be rich
hmm? oil barons probably have way more than just one million, so why not invest in something fun? do you hate fun?
> if I were an oil baron, I'd host a million dollar tournament with only new maps and give everyone like a month to train them before the tournament begins.

Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.
Dust 2 has a lot of interesting choke points which allow for a nice mix of CQC, sniping and verticality. With most maps at a competitive level, it's about general strategies, but Dust 2 has been ubiquitous for so long that there's lots of mindgames teams will play with each other that add a lot of excitements.
Plus considering Counter-Strike was ostensibly made after Desert Storm, and is tangentially related to Delta Force it's only natural that the most played map is in Terrorist Town.
Because normalgays like to play the same couple of maps, this leads to the most normie map to be the most popular >inb4 cs not normie
It is, this game was the millennial shooter for normalgays on pc
Hostage AI was too crap for cs_ maps to become the competitive standard
These are all cs_ maps, which, unfortunately, faded out due to muh competitive balance.
Matchmaking in GO also killed fy_, surf_ and whatever else.
You're forgetting cs_office is in rotation, has a huge cult following and is actually pretty popular. Its one of the fastest maps to queue in (sometimes only behind dust2 but inferno and mirage defo are on top of it most of the time).
Office is wild especially if the long hostage spawns. Long hostage+paper hostage is absolutely brutal and turns an otherwise T sided map into an actual balanced close quarters prefire & trade war.
If you and your team have the utility usage all coordinated you can wreak havoc on either side.
What the frick happened to CS? I've only recently started playing after pausing since CSGO was in beta and it's such a mess now. I thought it might be fun to play a bit of surf some Minigames and bhop but there are no cool servers left. Why do they basically force you to play official servers? Are zoomers to moronic to hit connect in the server list and favorite good ones?
I mean even back then when I was playing css you could easily find 5v5, 3v3 etc. on IRC probably faster than this shitty matchmaking system when you had your own server. I loved CS back in the days but I don't know if I'm going to play this shit.
>They never know that feeling of going to the Indian/Pakistani Internetcafe to play 1.6 with your friends >They never know that feel of making friends on a Minigame server or griefing jail maps in the middle of the night >They never know that feel when you rent a server to play brush or clutch some noobs 5v5
Unironically, yes, they are. >zoomers today will never know the comfy feeling of having a nice list of favorited servers and checking to see what maps and who is playing before you decide which server to play on
Matchmaking is a curse
>I thought it might be fun to play a bit of surf some Minigames and bhop but there are no cool servers left
Why you lying? There are tons of servers like that
de_dust isn't really that popular, definitely not in comp. de_dust2 is popular because its balanced, symmetrical, and has good shooting lanes/points of contact
Autists play the same thing over and over and fear any form of change. "Pros" actually suck wiener at the game and can't handle change either. That's why GO removed physics, because "pros" couldn't handle moving barrels.
dust2 is super popular because its the most 5v5 balanced map in the game. its proved by the win rate statistics, where cts and t have a near 50/50 winrate in tournaments.
meanwhile aztec and dust had something like 60/40 winrates that didn't change, and so valve removed them from rotation.
aztec was "remade" as acient, while dust1 was turned into a 2v2 map
acient is fine gameplay wise but the aesthetics suck dick, valve is moronic for not just changing aztec's layout into something more balanced

I remember dust 1 being more popular Unti about 2003
plenty of maps are popular man, it's just happens that dd2 gets played the most because call outs are known from pop culture
A lot of good maps faded until obsuctity like
Assault
Havana
737
frick even pool day, that was a fun map
the death of assault will forever piss me off. frick valve for removing it.
These are all cs_ maps, which, unfortunately, faded out due to muh competitive balance.
Matchmaking in GO also killed fy_, surf_ and whatever else.
GO killed counter-strike period
will see what classic offensive brings since valve fricked them over
also I forgot Militia, that was also good
Fun but too imbalanced in the Terrorists' favor.
>It was considered shit and unbalanced
dust1 is hilariously T-sided. CT needs to gamble and take heavy risks every round just to get to the bombsites
parroting decades old myth
it's slightly T sided, much less then a lot of maps that overstayed their welcome, it wasn't the best map but it wasn't by "bad" by any means
Why haven't they remade Dust 1 and Aztec in CSGO?
They used to be in the game but got removed for whatever reason
Probably because they are unbalanced pieces of shit.

Its fricking stupid they removed cobble and aztec

I LIKE AZTEC

wtf i love valve now
legacy map
very well balanced
fun to play, lots of ranges you can engage on
winnable solo vs a whole team if played correctly
autism. my autism however allows me to enjoy the superior cs_office on repeat instead.
oh my god i love the map dust i can pwn so many noobs on it maybe today i'll pwn enough noobs that i can raise my rank in the server from three to one
PWNED
REEEEEEEEEEEE
I don't know, whare i live cs_untitled was the most popular

what is atmosphere ?
Let me guess, you need "more".
Yes I need militia and assault.
We need up to date remakes of assaut, mansion, siege, aztec
Because normalgays like to play the same couple of maps, this leads to the most normie map to be the most popular

why did they do it?

This.

Yes. This is the CoD effect.

CoD had server lists on pc though
counter strike is not a console series
only until MW2 (2009)
Unironically, yes, they are.

I dunno and I hate them both. I hate even more how CS maps infest other games with custom maps, so you can't get away from them.
>de_dust2
mirage and inferno are more popular
>de_dust
>popular
lol, lmao
de_dust isn't really that popular, definitely not in comp. de_dust2 is popular because its balanced, symmetrical, and has good shooting lanes/points of contact
it's no cs_crackhouse
dust 2 was developed by an actually competent d&d level designer and it shows
allows for the perfect amount of strategy
de_penegrande
Home.
knowing Spanish... I could never get over the name of that map
How about we post good maps.
I barely play CS, but it's very easy to make callouts on dust2 because each part of the map looks distinct.
Dust 2 is the perfect map
No one will ever refute this
dust2 just ended up being the pinnacle of map design so everyone just played it as the main map of cs 1.6
Autists play the same thing over and over and fear any form of change. "Pros" actually suck wiener at the game and can't handle change either. That's why GO removed physics, because "pros" couldn't handle moving barrels.
