Somes modders, especially some higher-profile ones, have insanely inflated egos and strong superiority complexes. They often see themselves as superior to the devs, the community and their team members if they're on a bigger project.
If fans suck them off, they're happy, but they usually can't deal with criticism or not getting their way. Overgrown children basically.
I remember this one time a few years ago, we asked a certain modder for permission to use one of his assets in our project. He agreed, but only if we also used a bunch of his assets that didn't fit our project, and he demanded to be involved in PR and given a role as a department lead with decision-making power or he'd pull his assets. Needless to say, we declined working with him, and then he spent the next several months pestering us in group chats, comments on social pages etc.
This type of person just wants to be famous, in control and lord over others in whatever way possible. It's pretty pathetic. Thankfully, there are also sane people in the modding community, and I'm very happy to work with several of them.
I don't think it's most modders, most probably just don't care, but it's usually extremely skilled and popular ones that just get that brainbug god complex and demand to be treated as royalty or they mald into oblivion.

What do you mean? Modding these days is easier than it's ever been. There's unprecedented access to documentation and tutorials, and a lot more games have official mod support.
The only thing that's missing is AAA games that ship with official mod tools, but that was always a tiny minority.
