        Yes.

They have no intrinsic value and are purchased as either a novelty, a status symbol, or as a speculative commodity.

If someone wants an NFT for novelty he'll pay as much as you'd expect for a mediocre picture.

Anyone who would purchase an expensive NFT as a status symbol already has one and they're going (more like have gone) out of fashion.

All that's left is scammers who will try to offload their collection onto morons into buying it on the basis "it'll surely increase in value" (it won't)

Right-winger dudebros who love saying the n word and buy nft’s and bitcoin are ruining the planet.

LOL, you're defining "real art" as "expensive art" Putting that aside, people clearly do buy art for their satisfaction:

              https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stolen_paintings

Famous stolen goods can't be easily resold, so whoever has purchased one of the above did so because they wanted it for it's own sake.

So? There are millions of scams out there. Look at mobile game gacha, Sony retiring digital games that were bought on console, streamers shilling products/services that they know are crap, youtube ads for free vbucks, etc

Technically its less than a jpg, its typically just a URL to a jpg and a little metadata.

            Anonymous

Not to mention you legally cannot own a URL so you're technically buying nothing when you buy a NFT, and the creator legally has 0 obligation to secondary purchasers. Basically NFTs are straight up a joke.

What's the point of an NFT for copyright

            Anonymous

They don’t even own the jpeg, just what is essentially a hyperlink to a spot on the server where the image is kept. The owner of the server could change the image to meatspin and nothing has functionally changed about the nft.

          Anonymous

it's even worse than a jpg, it's just an URL to a jpg, if the url goes inactive you have nothing

          Anonymous

Yes! It's a smart contract! Which is to say, a "program" an NFT can be so many things! A fun thing an NFT can be is a random image that suddenly shows up in your collection, that, when you click it, empties everything you own in that collection to a third parties collection and there's nothing you can do about that if it happens. So cool!

            Anonymous

Not exactly, NFTs are created through smart contracts but aren't smart contracts themselves.

NFT's are bad but you are a fricking moron by trying to peddle the intrinsic value angle. Paper money you use and its conversion into digital currency also has no intrinsic value, the fricking numbers in your bank account have no intrinsic value and could turn to zeroes should the world economy or your country (The example of Russia after its invasion of Ukraine works really well to prove that but idiots like you have no critical thinking) and its banks take a shit. Nothing has any intrinsic value besides basic sustenance.

Because there are plenty of irresponsible people with loads of crypto to waste that use this website, and Ganker is one of the highest traffic boards. There's guaranteed to be a decent chunk of the Ganker userbase that also uses Ganker, and regardless, Ganker is a still well-known website where plenty of internet trends and memes originate.

        >but it's making fun of them!
Any publicity is good publicity. Nobody would have heard of this scam if not for these Ganker threads, but if they can make this into a recurring thread that stays bumped from people making fun of it, there's bound to eventually be someone who reads about it, thinks they've found the next big thing, and buys into it, letting the devs run off with their money. If not on Ganker, someone here will inadvertently get it displayed on some willing sucker's Twitter feed.

I'm done replying because I don't want to increase the post count in this marketing thread anymore.

    What is an nft console?
    What is an nft game??
    What is an nft???

If I buy a skin in a game, a record of my purchase is stored in a database, and now I "own" the skin. How is nft any fricking different?

Is this like when millennials tried to rebrand the internet as "the cloud"?

      Yeah pretty much

The idea is that a company can't arbitrary edit the database to say you're no longer the owner. Of course, the Ethereum network is slow as frick, and transaction fees are very high, but at least you can somewhat "prove" you own that stupid fricking ape you bought for thousands of dollars.

NFTs are decentralized so in theory you can freely transfer them around between users and even potentially between games
      In practice, who knows

        >NFTs are decentralized so in theory you can freely transfer them around between users and even potentially between games
Why do you need NFTs for that.

          Anonymous

You don't need it, it's just a relatively simple method. In theory you Riot make some skin for Valorant and then do a deal with Ubisoft to link player accounts and let people with the skin get something similar for R6 Siege
Alternatively they could release the skin as an NFT and Ubisoft could allow the NFT to function as a skin in their game as well. 2 methods of doing the same thing. Only difference is that with the NFT you would retain a proof of ownership in the blockchain

            Anonymous

            >Only difference is that with the NFT
Would be that it's slow, expensive and requires you to trade your real life money for some fricking crypto, to the direct profit of people currently holding crypto who want real money instead.

            Anonymous

Why would it profit these game developers and publishers to add support for things like that when they would rather you buy their own MTX instead of importing another company's?

              Anonymous

It wouldn't, that's why I'm saying "in theory" rather than "the inevitable state of the industry will be"

      >The idea is that a company can't arbitrary edit the database to say you're no longer the owner.

That makes no sense as they could simply not recognise the item. A blockchain ledger saying you own The Sword of Aeons is irrelevant if no game lets you use it.

        Anonymous

Yeah, that's where the idea falls apart for games. Maybe their idea is putting the game itself on the blockchain or something, so it can't be edited, but running a game on the blockchain will be so fricking slow that it just wouldn't work.

NFTs are images that are logged in blockchain. You don't own said image or rights to it. But you can say you are marked as owner of the NFT in blockchain.
You try to convince to others it is worth a lot so you can make profit.
The whole market depends on scamming others.
Buy it for $10, sell for $20.
It has no value, purpose or any use. No, transferring NFTs between vidya isn't possible either due to needing constant connection to blockchain and because games run on different code. So your monkey NFT won't magically appear between Skyrim, TF2, God of War, SSBU, and Halo Infinite. Those devs would have to manually code said monki face NFT to their games and keep constant 24/7 connection to blockchain to make sure you own the NFT in the game.
Could someone just hack the code and use the NFT files? Can you save pic I posted?
Remember that the people who buy NFTs doesn't own rights to the pics themselves.

TL;DR NFTs are scams, and blockchain is useless

        Anonymous

the blockchain isn't useless, it does have useful applications, just not some worldwide internet encompassing blockchain, it's solid technology that's being used to scam idiots, which is a shame

the concept of a blockchain was first proposed in the 80s I think it was? originally the idea was to have small independent blockchains within large corporation structures, just a different way of organizing and verifying large amounts of date

the first real application of it was crypto, and it's been used to scam idiots ever since

the concept of a blockchain is fine, it's just the application that's being misused because it's something "new and complex" that can easily confuse people

No way, I don't see different companies playing nice with each other in this way, and it only takes one dev to do something moronic to bring the whole thing down. Imagine The Elder Chains online economy crushing in minutes because Crypto Crush Saga decided to suddenly give out a lot more obsidian ore to attract more player.
Even ignoring the fact that it sounds like something that only benefits the devs, it would be a fricking logistical nightmare to even manage on the most basic level. Imagine Bethesda trying to balance a game depending on what Ubisoft is doing, for example.

                That's why inflation exists frick

Where's the value though? Just because it's "exclusive" doesn't mean it has inherent value. The shit I took an hour ago is exclusive because there will never be any other shit like it. Does that mean it's worth money?

There's a limited amount of my personal Poop. It's an exclusive poop limited and minted by my butthole. Each one is unique and can not be replicated.
                Money please!

The value added is falsified and created to artificially push NFTs to have exclusivity.

That's how paper money got it's value so many years ago.

You can even add value to your shit. Just market it right.

                Pet rocks.

If developers want to add exclusiveity to armor sets by telling everyone that you are the only one with the ORIGINAL armor set they can do that.

And I believe that will happen.

Just look at the CSGO or TF2 market and tell me you don't see it. Gamers autistically defending their skins they got, their hats.

Not majority holders, majority miners. Changes to the chain are agreed upon by majority of miners. So all that needs to happen is for a few companies to collude and they'd have complete control over the blockchain.

What makes or breaks a currency is if people want it. See:

There's a limited amount of my personal Poop. It's an exclusive poop limited and minted by my butthole. Each one is unique and can not be replicated.
                Money please!

There is a limited number of poop coming from my butthole, but people are not gonna use it as a currency because it is not desirable, merely for it's uniqueness.
Same with Crypto. There could be a total of only 5 bitcoin in the world, making them extremely rare and unique, but if nobody wants them, then their value is 0. And right now Cryptos biggest value is crypto bros trading it back and forth in a speculative manner.
Hell, specially NFT space is FULL of people buying their own NFTs from secondary wallets to make it look like it's worth something. It's a fricking jokee.

I thought he was fully mocking the concept of Blockchain gaming. Fricking hell, I thought this was an anti-blockchain dude describing a video game dystopia and then I get to the end AND THAT'S THE FUTURE HE LIKES?!?!?! FRICKING WHAT???

this homosexual has never played an rpg in his life to say this shit lmao

5% (1 in 20) is really not a small chance. If that was an actual, populated MMO, players would collect all 4 within like 5 minutes.

lol the only chance that there's '4 in existence' of a 5% drop rate item is if nobody was playing it, just like a real life nft game

I'm gonna guess, since it's an NFT game the reason there are only 4 in existence despite a 1 in 20 dropchance, is that like everything in an NFT game, it's gonna cost SILLY amounts of money to even attempt the raid.

I think there was a Josh Strife Hayes video that I can't find right now where he talks about a popular "play to earn" MMO, where as a free player all you can do is collect poop. And basically even having a class in that game costs you money, everything you want to do requires an investment. In order to play the game, you need to pay the game. And then you have a CHANCE that it will pay off.
You need a shitton of money to allow your guild into this fictional raid, and MAYBE you get the orb. But maybe you all get fricked.
This is the future crypto bros want.

The idea that's being pushed is that you skip the effort in a game you only kind of like and instead invest it in a different game you do like for unified progress. They present this as being able to enable player choice, create inter-game community, and possibly profit if you play smart. Anyone with a brain notices that it's a logistics nightmare that fricks all non-whales and basically encourages you to play a variety of shitty games constantly or grind forever in one shitty game.

            >"I hope that Nintendo's shareholders' meeting will become an opportunity where the shareholders discuss the company's business operations from the viewpoints of capital gain and dividends", the investor added. NFTs are a pyramid scheme (literally, not hyperbole here), hence people who lose their money into it have to develop a cult like insistence on it to make sure THEY aren't the ones that get screwed over.

Its a desperate game of hot potato once you get suckered into buying it to make sure you aren't the one left holding the bag in the end when it falls.

      Anonymous

It's not a pyramid scheme, just a greater fool economy. You don't need to recruit multiple people, and you don't pass money to someone higher up the chain. You just need one bigger idiot than you.

        Anonymous

I was googleing "are NFTs are pyramid scheme", and found this amazing graphic, which essentially says: "No no, they're not a pyramid scheme, you just have to buy them from a provider, and then sell them on to someone else, while the provider gets a cut!"
        Soooo.. A Pyramid scheme?
I think because you were thinking of how individuals usually buy singular NFTs and have to sell them one you were not thinking of it as a pyramid scheme, but I think it is very much a pyramid scheme.
Not to mention that everyone invested into NFTs, also needs to build HYPE and avoid FUD in order for their NFTs to stay valuable, which makes it even more pyramid-y
It is technically worse than a pyramid scheme, because in a Pyramid scheme if you are on the second layer you can maybe actually make some money off the idiots below you.
In an NFT, once you sold off your goods that you got from the head of the pyramid, you don't get any kickback from them selling it to the next sucker. That all goes to the head of the pyramid.
So it's an improved Pyramid scheme that's even more predatory. Capitalism breeds innovation.

          Anonymous

The "head" of the pyramid doesn't get a kickback for every time their NFT is sold, though.

Depends on what the smart contract that governs the sale of the NFT has programmed into it.

                Anonymous

Like it said in the image. The crator usually gets "royalties" with every sale hardcoded into the NFT.
It's one of the dumb reasons NFT folk "justify" NFTs, they say it's a legitimate form of digital art sales, enabling a secondary market of which the original artist can still profit!
Only that NFTs are of course basically never about the art. The most popular NFTs have fricking horrendous art, and it's all about the "prestige" of owning one in the community.
And the few NFTs that do have good art are often just stolen artworks from other people.
So yeah, considering all these things and the shit I said in that post, I'd say NFTs are just a pyramid scheme.

They don't actually have any clue about the industry they're "working" in and have no idea how to market anything. So if you have a bunch of web3 Fortnite skins, and you get banned from Fortnite, you still can't trade your fortnite skins.
Btw that's all this saying: "Imagine you can say Black person on fortnite, secure in the knowledge that you can still trade the items you own in-game can be transfered to a new account are not lost". Great, exactly what we needed. Enabling more ban evasion in video games.

Web3/NFT shit isn't decentralized and it's much worse than what you think. This article really is worth the read.

There's also the fact that a lot of crypto projects that advertise themselves as "decentralized" and with the "users having voting power" have a curious case of the project starter having exactly 51% voting power, effectively giving a singular person complete and concentrated power over this "decentralized" system.

The voting shit is hilarious, like an exchange using voting tokens on steemit on behalf of users or pic related.

Salesman talk. Every 3 years or so you need to invent a new meaningless buzzword to convince some boomer suit it's "trending tech" so they fund your startup. Now that you have some backing all you have to do is climb the ladder so you get more prominent logos under the "Associated with:" section on your website. After you have a successful brand and a product (theoretical) you can write a book to advice the next generation of scammers, extra cash if it makes it to the NYT bestsellers.

        >An NFT, or non-fungible token, is a type of digital asset that lives on a blockchain. It has a monetary value and is useful to authenticate and track the provenance of another piece of digital media. That can be JPEGs but also music files, or really anything else that can be saved to a hard drive. But an NFT is not the underlying media itself.
        > Spending any amount of money, be it $5 or $40 million, on anything auctioned or traded as an NFT does not give you legal ownership over the underlying media associated with that token. What you do own when you buy an NFT are the keys to a non-fungible – perhaps unique – token. That token is yours to trade or hold or display in Decentraland. But the digital file associated with an NFT is just as easy to copy and paste and download as any other
        > Non-fungible tokens are often promoted as a way to bring “scarcity” and “permanence” to infinitely reproducible digital objects. In a way this view is correct. NFTs do bring scarcity to digital goods, but that scarcity is limited to the blockchain-based token itself.

Theres no way this isnt gonna fail, but i think we can make it fail harder, and cost more people money in the process

Ok, we all agree NFTs suck and the developers are bunch of idiots spouting stuff they have no concept of.

But then they announce it will be a gamesphere design. Don’t try to pretend like that wouldn’t change everything

I'm honestly still a little stunned at how close NFTs got to being accepted by normies. Seems like a lot of bored wealthy people got together and tried to force this absolute worthless shit just to see if enough morons would bite. The only real way to make money in this country anymore is through entertainment or grifting, so I guess they're really scraping the bottom of this barrel. Makes me wonder how stupid things will get when infinite growth reaches its finite end.

anyone got the link to that website that has a rolling archive of news stories about NFT/crypto scams? I saw it once, it had stories like "developer spends 100k on strippers that was supposed to go to the project" and shit like that

wow, theyre already on top of this story.
            >Vaporware is hardly a new phenomenon in the web3 space, but the Polium project is bringing it to new heights. They announced their product—a "multi-chain console for Web 3 Gaming"—with no extant console, no design for one, and no games for it.
            >The website advertises specifications for an eventual console that contradict—it will be both 4K and 8K, for example—and promises to integrate Apple's TouchID (despite the fact that Apple does not allow non-Apple products to use that technology). The product's Medium page describes their plans to take pre-orders before the console hardware is built (good sign), and estimates a release date of Q3 2024.
            >Polium has also gotten flak for its logo, which quite resembles the GameCube logo. Although they claimed in a tweet that "we did not copy the Nintendo's GameCube logo", they also promised to "illustrate a new logo that is original"—apparently acknowledging that theirs is not.

Yes I have the NFTs still. Only an idiot would cash out for FIAT money right now. I'm holding onto them until I get a 1000% return on my investment (I started with only 3000 bucks to buy my first NFT)

    >Tom was actively following two major Telegram accounts, known as Whiplash347 and PatriotQakes, which were promoting dozens of tokens linked to the Stellar blockchain, the world’s third most popular crypto network behind Bitcoin and Ethereum.
    >But what Tom didn’t know was that these influencers weren’t simply providing neutral investment advice, as they claimed. They were linked to the tokens themselves, raking in millions of dollars from investors like Tom.
    >In the end, Tom invested over $100,000 in these scams, ruining his business in the process.
    >He also became increasingly extreme in his beliefs, going beyond QAnon conspiracy theories to espouse flat earth conspiracy theories, and speaking about the David Icke-inspired conspiracy theory that the earth is secretly run by a race of lizard people.
    >Things came to a head for Tom in March of this year, when, according to his brother, one evening he climbed on top of his house, yelling and screaming, telling his neighbors he was going to kill them. The next night, he poured gas on his truck in front of his house and set it on fire.
    >When the police arrived, Tom told an officer that the officer’s house would be next. Tom was quickly arrested.
    >But while his family scrambled to get him some help, he was released from prison without any warning–on the condition that any guns he owned were taken away from him. That never happened, and he later died by suicide.

thats almost sad, but these kinds of people have been falling victim to cults and things like that forever. if it wasnt crypto, something else would've stolen his heart and cost him everything - you just can't save people like this

Yea, weak minded people with nothing to lose often get swept up by the first charismatic group of people they come across who offer them the comfort and acceptance they crave. Crypto is no different - promises of wealth, being part of the "in-crowd" that knows better than all the dumb have nots, etc.
But the fact that this guy became a flat earther shouting from his rooftop shows that he was never all that mentally together to begin with

I'm saying it's less that "you can't save people like this" and more that the people who would "save" this kind of person are usually the ones who put them there in the first place.

Bloody b***h there is slander being spread about Polium. I am a developer on the console. I am working on the protype as you speak, okay? I know these things.

The Polium One will have 8k and VR support. You want Fortnite VR? Okay we are going to have that. The processing on it will be more powerful than all other consoles combined. You are going to have many many teraflops. Every unit will be shipped with blockchain technology, that you can use to make blockchain transaction or mine and we are so able to make $500 a day mining bitcoins.

Watch for updates. We will start opening up pre orders soon and you will be able to redeem a Polium One with google play cards.
