No ShareX or Shadowplay
What are those?
flameshot is the same as shareX and who gives a shit about shadowplay
>flameshot
Thanks for this, looks nice.
>and who gives a shit about shadowplay
I use it for clipping and I know I can use OBS for it but I really like the feedback that a clip was successful. I know it's autistic but unless there is a way to have a notification in OBS I'm staying.
Best I could find for an alternative for Shadowplay is https://git.dec05eba.com/gpu-screen-recorder/about/
Easy to install on the AUR but I haven't personally tried it yet. Will give it a go tonight
>flameshot
what are you morons talking about thats a lightshot clone, sharex is completely different
sharex doesn't work on GNU/Linux so it's useless.
>waaahhhh I need my software which it's entire only purpose is to turns two clicks into one click
Once again Windows users complain about not being able to do something a certain way when they haven't even looked at the alternative ways to accomplish the same thing (which might even be better then their solution).
is there an alternative to this piece of software that works the same way
>yes
but it doesnt work the same way
>thats not my problem stop complaining
What's your specific complaint? What functionality are you missing?
both posts said that flameshot were an exact equivalent to sharex which is not true, they both do screenshots yes but they are not the same
So what specific functionality are you missing?
Not OP but i looked up of what the frick sharex is and its just a basic tool of some basic functionality that flameshot, OBS and kdenlive covers. The complaint is that you can be brain dead and use sharex while with flameshot, obs, kdenlive combo you might need a couple brain cells to use them in the same way.
It's always the same complains from wintoddlers.
>but everything must be accessible to toddlers or i don't like it !
He's yet to tell me what functionality he's missing after asking him twice, so I'm assuming that he doesn't actually know what flameshot does and he's just insisting. I've used ShareX a few times and its primary purpose is the screenshot function and saving to the clipboard/auto uploading to image sites. All of that functionality can be replicated in the same way with the same amount of automation. I feel like this is one of those things were people get really attached to the idea that brands create functionality when its the other way around.
I'm 90% sure it's pasta. Mostly because I remember the exact way people were confused.
>the screenshot function and saving to the clipboard/auto uploading to image sites
You can do it literally with a 30-lines bash script and maim + xclip + curl.
>No ShareX
Flameshot is literally an equivalent.
>Shadowplay
Yes there is. Multiple different methods of accessing the hardware NVENC replay buffer on Nvidia cards directly. Not even OBS shit.
Because Win7 still works.
Might was well use Win2k if you're gonna stick to outdated hardware and software like this.
>outdated
But perfectly functional, and ironically safer and more pleasant to use to boot.
It won't be functional for long bro.
Explain ?
Literally beats many 8+ generations newer CPUs and loses to much later variants by like 10%.
You'll have to upgrade eventually if you want to play those new games. You can't even play Elden Ring.
>You'll have to upgrade eventually if you want to play those new games
Which new games?
And sure, support for old systems will drop eventually, but at that point I've probably been using Linux for quite some time.
>Elder Ring
literally works on Win7, and I wouldn't want to even Pirate that crap.
In general, 9/10 of all "Wee10 exclusives" are artificially restricted to not start on any other system. Easy to get around though, like I did with Death Stranding 2 years ago.
Proove it
There's literal "run on win 7" mods on nexus right now. Even without that some are as simple adding dxvk to the game directory.
Win7 is practically nes, and you're saying you can't play PS2 games on it.
>Win7 is practically nes, and you're saying you can't play PS2 games on it.
1. That's one terrible, naive and idiotic comparison.
2. Where am I saying that again? Because I've just recently been binging through the Yakuza franchise, spending many evenings enjoying Deep Rock Galactic, etc, without any issues. Most of them late-2010s' to early 2020s' games.
FYI, Windows 7 is literally "NT 6.1".
W8 was 6.2, and Wee10 6.3.
Your latest MS Wontworks systems literally run on the exact same base and Kernel as Vista, and with W7 being a proper 64-bit system, the only reason certain (very few) products are not supported on it are purely capitalistic.
tl;dr: Windows 7 is still a perfectly viable operating system, and the last good OS Microsoft has released.
When it's finally time to put this old warhorse down, Wee10, ""the very last Windows version EVAH!!** "", will already be dead and buried as well.
>still sitting on obsolete m$ system
>using linux tools + moronic malware in order to run games
How disgusting. Should've install Linux at this point.
Elden Ring is a fricking fantastic game you tasteless luddite.
Sorry kid, you need to play more games.
Souls shit got very tiresome already after the first Dark Souls, which itself was nothing more than a fine if not already a bit easier Demon's Souls ripoff.
It's been nothing but downhill since then, and ER is a prime example of what happens when you keep beating the dead horse for almost two decades. The empty and fugly open world serves no purpose at all, and the gameplay is the same tedious rollin-on-a-ground Simon Says pattern memorization, over and over again.
It looks bad, is not fun to play, and the story is literal porn-film tier background fluff to justify the pointless, agonizing violence.
All games are pointless. You aren't enlightened by being tired of Fromsoft.
>All games are pointless.
Value is given, and it needs to be earned.
ER provides nothing new and outright takes several steps back. It's just sad to see the zoom zoom crowds brag about some implied "higher standards" of the era, when a game this shallow, outdated and clunky gets praised as the second coming of the Christ.
DaS really was nothing more than a streamlined DeS, and streamlining isn't always a positive trait.
It's funny how so many nu-Souls fans claim to be some sort of HC ultra gaymers, but totally get filtered by the DeS' consumable healing system.
The thing people hype about Souls games is just that the devs are willing to make enemies that kill you. It's not that complicated.
Which is a very sad way of seeing it.
Back in the early PS3 days, when DeS was all the rave, it really was seen as the first major counter attack against the ongoing extreme casualization of the industry.
It wasn't however just some masochistic dying fest. I vividly recall many people using the term "3D Diablo", which fits.
Having to manually locate and loot consumable healing grasses, that come in various shapes and sizes, is certainly a much more demanding and challenging system than the auto-refueled Flasks of (every other Souls game afterwards).
It actually made certain unique skills like the Templar Knight's "miracles" a valuable tactical asset.
What fricking game did you play? I just bought all the grasses I needed and bruteforced through the game easily.
>What fricking game did you play?
Original Demon's Souls.
>buying Grass
So you were also one of those tryhard gamers then.
Nope. Hell, I can even admit that I outright suck ass at Souls games, but it's become awfully clear that the later installments just got easier and easier mechanically. Something they've clearly tried to compensate by cranking up the SPEED of the action and adding even more bullshit insta-kill segments. Many alternative tactics, builds, "metas" in general seem to be more impractical than ever before.
What are you talking about? The healing items system in DeS makes it easier not harder, it was literally something they fixed in DaS by inventing the Estus system.
Dark Souls was mostly an improvement over Demon's Souls. The world and lore is so much fricking better in Dark Souls, not to mention the interconnected design of the first half of the game.
>literally works on Win7, and I wouldn't want to even Pirate that crap.
It crashes all the time. So no, it doesn't.
You are full of shit. I got a working 2600k overclocked at 4.2 ghz standing right next to me and it was at its absolute limits one or two years ago.
Of course the W7 advocate is another poorgay cope.
>2600k
XP still works too, why aren't you on that? It's a better OS too.
>Because Win7 still works.
It's not 2015 anymore. Gloating that you're running a 12 year old OS with zero security updates and backported telemetry is not the dunk you think it is. I would rather you use Linux than upgrade to 10/11 though.
>no more dolphin
post pape
gl not getting fricked by some exploit one day.
it's literally a Swiss cheese.
if you wanna stick to windows, take a look at Ghost Spectre Windows.
>Ghost Spectre Windows.
Frick's that
>gl not getting fricked by some exploit one day.
name one scenario.
Does Diablo 2 resurrected work on Win7?
i kneel
I'm using macOS.
Of course the akari homosexual uses mac
>troonix
>gaming
>neckbeard hat distro
christ, have some shame
I want to play games
this. I didn’t built a top tier rig to troubleshoot my way through my vidya library.
however, if I were to use loonix, I’d be using picrel
Lazyness.
Linux is gay and for homosexuals
Windows just werks.
I don't need to use fixes for modern games and the only issues I've had is with extremely older PC games which were easy to fix.
I don't want to have to go to ProtonDB for every game just to see
>Game crashes every now and then but I beat it, platinum rating 🙂
Windows sends pictures of your butthole straight to the NSA.
Literally every modern device and program you use is spying on you. Even the ones that say they don't, guaranteed they'll have some sort of leak and your info will go public.
No, it doesn't make it alright that Windows does it but complaining about Windows because of it is silly when everything else in your life is doing it too.
I use open source software, and I don't use smartphones. Suck it, chump.
>no smartphone
>what no pussy does to a mfer
big red flag
school shooter vibes
Smartphones are for dummies.
Who says I'm not also constantly complaining about everything else that violates my privacy? I exclusively use cash, I don't use a phone, I sign petitions and write to politicians that I don't want to have my data harvested and I demand that companies delete my data whenever I feel like it, and if they don't comply, I can sue them. Being a defeatist is never sensible, because every cutoff point you choose for giving up is arbitrary. Will any of this help? Probably not, and if it doesn't I'll go full teddy boy.
>he says as he walks around with RFID chips that leave tags on every movement he makes
>he says as his bank sells all his purchase and credit card info
>he says as he walks around with a phone that tracks his exact GPS location at all times for his phone company
>he says as he's recorded on 52 cameras on a mile walk down the street
>he says as his internet provider or VPN sells his info online
>he says as his web browsing leaves a frickhuge fingerprint
>he says as his public records are all easily accessible from a gov website
and you live in the woods using a wooden computer made of hand mined metals
You should still minimize the leakage of personal information where you can.
Bill Gates is using his wealth to strong-arm entire countries into his green grocery meat-alternatives bullshit. If you don't want to eat the bug you must begin to resist.
What are you talking about, how is he behind the bug eating or the vegan fad? He's into medicine and philanthropy these days. Are you just making baseless accusations?
Q: Do you think plant-based and lab-grown meats could be the full solution to the protein problem globally, even in poor nations? Or do you think it’s going to be some fraction because of the things you’re talking about, the cultural love of a hamburger and the way livestock is so central to economies around the world?
A: For Africa and other poor countries, we’ll have to use animal genetics to dramatically raise the amount of beef per emissions for them. Weirdly, the US livestock, because they’re so productive, the emissions per pound of beef are dramatically less than emissions per pound in Africa. And as part of the [Bill and Melinda Gates] Foundation’s work, we’re taking the benefit of the African livestock, which means they can survive in heat, and crossing in the monstrous productivity both on the meat side and the milk side of the elite US beef lines.
So no, I don’t think the poorest 80 countries will be eating synthetic meat. I do think all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef. You can get used to the taste difference, and the claim is they’re going to make it taste even better over time. Eventually, that green premium is modest enough that you can sort of change the [behavior of] people or use regulation to totally shift the demand.
So for meat in the middle-income-and-above countries, I do think it’s possible. But it’s one of those ones where, wow, you have to track it every year and see, and the politics [are challenging]. There are all these bills that say it’s got to be called, basically, lab garbage to be sold. They don’t want us to use the beef label.
It's funny how they always focus only on the taste, as if the nutritional content isn't important.
brainlet take
>Eventually, that green premium is modest enough that you can sort of change the [behavior of] people or use regulation to totally shift the demand.
He's outright saying that you can either manipulate the market to price poor people out of being able to buy real beef (in America of course, Africans can still get real beef) OR you can leverage your massive government lobbying connections to just ban beef (in America only)
He's a greasy, elitist, moralizing fricker and he should fall into a volcano.
After linux succumbed to the woke culture last month? nay, why would i? if i wanna use a woke OS i will just use windows lmao.
Sauce? How did it go woke?
It didn't its just another windie cope to keep using spyware and be lazy. Even if it did it doesn't matter because you can't enforce your ideology on open source tech. With closed source shit like windows you're at the mercy of what windows wants. With open source if you don't like something you just fork your own shit.
I tried Linux on my old laptop and while it's pretty cool, I'll still keep using Windows on my main desktop simply because I want to be able to play any game without any problem. I don't care if "most" games work with Proton, I don't feel like it's worth it if you use your PC for vidya. I don't want to troubleshoot 20% of the games I want to play.
I am, i've been using PopOS for a few years now
I don't have the memorized list of repo links that you apparently need to get started and up and running. I don't yet feel the urge to upend my pc comfort for a year or more getting my headspace moved into thinking in Linux. Not to mention games break, fix and break again every week if they have been out less than a year.
>I don't have the memorized list of repo links that you apparently need to get started and up and running
What?
brother every OS has a GUI installer now no need to bother with knowing anything
That is until you stumble on a program that seems useful and the fine print says it's for every other distro of linux except yours and you need to know exactly what you have installed to work out what's going on with it.
because i dont crave little girls
I am though.
Same
BRUH YOU REALISE YOU POST THIS ON Ganker RIGHT? THE BIGGEST COUNTER-ARGUMENT IS RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES!
In my experience:
>less than 10% of my 300 Steam games run on Linux
>the few games that can run perform worse than on Windows
>yuzu/Ryujinx perform terribly as well
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be able to migrate fully to Loonix but it simply isn't there yet. For now, I'm comfy dual booting Arch for work and Windows 10 for leisure mode.
Hrmm
I'm too much of a brainlet to try to understand it
I'm a brainlet and if I can do it anyone can. It's 2022 they make linux so easy now, just get mint or Pop OS like all the other brainlets, then you can laugh at windows gays
>Fedora
Trash.
Fedora is legitimately the perfect distro
Fedora is literally the fricking testbed alpha version of RHEL, a fricking business/server distro. Fedora is trash.
If it's good enough for Linus, it's good enough for me.
Modern Fedora is what Ubuntu used to be pre-2010. Which is to say, the perfect "justwerks" distro.
I do. Dual boot with win10, which is booted into maybe five times a year when I can't get a windows game to work or my sister's kids bug me into playing roblox with them
Linux is unprofessional. Windows is made by professionals. I trust professionals more than something made in some mom's basement.
Explain why Windows is horrible for doing professional work on then.
>Linux is unprofessional. Windows is made by professionals
The vast majority of professional dev works are done in Linux environments. That even includes Nvidia lmao. Stupid dunning-kruger homosexual.
>Windows is made by professionals. I trust professionals more than something made in some mom's basement.
>Windows pushes update
>people can't boot because of bluescreen
This has happened MULTIPLE times. Real professionalism you got their.
Because I have better things to do
Because I like doing more than just changing my wallpaper and taking pictures of my desktop.
Pirating games on Linux is fricking troublesome
if you're moronic
with how windows 11 is looking I just might have to consider, Theres some horeseshit brewin on windows shit. So I'll prob start with whatever Valve is using which is ArchLinux
I am, I just dualboot since I decided if I was going to start using linux for stuff I'd go all the way and not just install a bunch of proprietry software.
but I am.
My Windows is working just fine and run a lot of stuff that Linux can't.
What's wrong with dual booting windows for games that don't work on your main (linux) OS?
Nothing except that youll notice you dont want to stop and boot windows, which is why ppl do all the pci passthrough bullshit.
It's perfectly fine. I do the same thing.
PCI passthough is that much more of a hassle. I only boot Windows for a couple of games and I guess multiplayer.
I tried using Linux at work 8 years ago and it was awful experience - the only thing it could be used for was ricing and browsing internet, everything else, even fricking printing, was broken most of the time.
Worst part is that I will HAVE to switch to some Linux distro in the future when MS will cut down support for Win10 and Win11 is total disaster, even bigger than Win8 was.
I feel i must have good luck or simlpy kino hardware taste because everything i ever owned for 15 years worked on linux no problem including printers.
Works on my machine.
Win 11 is fine schizo, if you can tolerate 10 then its the exact same shit
yea bro absolutely nothing changed in the last 8 years im sure your experience would be identical now to 8 years ago
what a moronic mongrel
It still doesn't work well. I used it as my daily driver for 4 months in 2017, but I would only recommend it for web browsing, and maybe reading some wegs. I tried out Arch Linux again a couple days ago and I wasn't able to get Risen working. After an hour of messing with Proton, I was finally able to get the offline GOG installer opened. When I booted the game, I got a huge error about the physics engine not loading. Installing PhysX did nothing. It shouldn't be this complicated. Also, "privacy" is a meme. If you're using the internet, or playing proprietary video games, you have no privacy no matter the system.
I pirated Dragons Dogma Arisen and it worked without doing anything.
Skill isue
Now try Risen. Pirate it from gog-games.
>pirate the game
>add to steam to use proton
>it works
wow so fricking hard to play games on linux
Same with people b***hing about running mod programs. As usual there's always like 5-6 different methods to do things just like on Windows but people b***h because they're not used to doing it the way they've been conditioned to. Computers are about troubleshooting when things go wrong and zoomers can't handle it. Not that things really go wrong on Linux these days as it's mostly piss easy.
Nothing reeks of unemployed NEET more than using linux as your daily driver.
Why would you take pride in being a corporate slave?
I'm not part of the LGBT community and I like to play videogames
But I'm. On my phone.
Fricking phoneposters
ok, nerd
appimage or flatpak?
Well, I'm using android at the moment, so on a sense I am using linux.
Too difficult for someone like me to use.
I'm not a virgin
>try to run win10 on vm
>give it 16gb ram and all my cpu cores
>still slow as frick
Win 11 is even worse.
>comments say to turn off hyperv
>still the same shit performance
>turn on hyperv
>still the same shit performance
i got programs i want to run on wangblows, and if vm cant make this fricking shit os run why would i become a freetard? answer me that, stallmanhomosexuals
Why are you even trying to run VM's of windows?
CAD programs, adobe shit, guitar pro is good on windows. it is every man's right to have access to the tools i need to do the shit i need.
>CAD programs
Fair. Have you tried running them in Bottles environments?
>adobe shit
My condolences for using such shit software.
>guitar pro is good on windows
Dunno what that is but also a fair argument. My advice would to just get a seperate SSD and boot into Windows for when you want to use that shit. I either try to get stuff working through wine or just boot into windows rather than fricking around with VM's or GPU passthrough shit.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking at the moment. Less of a headache and save space on the current ssd by offloading it to another one. I heard windows is a c**t as a bootloader and will overwrite the gnu one, is that true? I dont want to spam into my mobo's loader and handle it there.
>I heard windows is a c**t as a bootloader and will overwrite the gnu one, is that true? I dont want to spam into my mobo's loader and handle it there.
Yes. My advice, buy a seperate SSD dedicated solely for Windows. When you go to install windows on it, disconnect all your other drives from the computer so the bootloader can only install on that specific SSD. It's a pain in the ass but if you do it this way you'll never run into problems again unless you mess with GRUB or whatever.
Nice tip, I'll keep it in mind when I do the transfer. Do you think it's worth installing games on the same windows SSD as well, or would you separate it? Just thinking about it from a profile perspective.
Works on my machine.
You need to pass a graphics card to it to get any hardware acceleration
Because I want to play videogames
There are no good DEs on Linux
Gnome is slow and aimed at laptops rather than PC
KDE is so full of customization that it often gets in your way
Everything else is old or underdeveloped
>KDE is so full of customization that it often gets in your way
????
stock KDE is fine though? It's basically windows with more options.
>kde customization gets in your way
juts turn it off what you dont want moron thats the why its customizable lol
Who says I'm not?
>pic
My cum be your life source
And the only way to get it
Is to suck or frick
Or be poor and devoid
And jerk off me
i like using OS's that just work out of the box without troubleshooting all my very specific to me issues for like 72 hours
>i like using OS's that just work out of the box
So not Windows?
I have literally never had a problem with windows since windows 7 released. I'm sorry you're moronic, anon.
No OS works out of box for any productive task if the first thing you have to do is open up a web browser and download a million EXE's anon. Maybe get a better idea on what you think "out of the box" means.
>No OS works out of box for any productive task if the first thing you have to do is open up a web browser and download a million EXE's anon.
it's funny because with windows, you don't have to do this at all. especially now.
>have to write uni assignment
>install Windows
>no Word installed by default, so I guess I'm forced to write my assignment in notepad or open up a web browser and go download word (if you own it)
vs
>install distro, takes less than 5 mins usually
>comes with openoffice preinstalled
>off to the races
See how your argument of "out of the box" is highly subjective and applicable to the situation and doesn't hold water?
>distro doesnt come with libreoffice
>no word installed by default
wordpad comes default with windows. you might want to stop making shit up, anon.
>wordpad
Pretty subpar. Can you whip me up a spreadsheet with earnings for the boss?
>meh you got me there, lemme move this goal post
linux gays will take any fricking win they can get to justify their pants on head moronic decisions i suppose
>not writing your thesis in doom emacs
>Not writing out all your shitposts in LaTeX
>not writing your thesis in wordpad
I wrote my PhD thesis in word and it was the worst experience I've ever had with a program, at some point it broke every single reference so I had to manually go through and redo 300+ references. Other fun problems include page breaks not working, images randomly jumping around, page numbering not letting me have two numberings and my favourite was the loop of updating the table of contents changed the pages which updated the table of contents which changed the pages.
>has phd
>posts on Ganker
go outside dude
I did earlier, too cold to go out and do stuff. Might go fishing later tonight though.
good boy.
>Not having a PhD in the modern world where every two bit pajeet has a degree
Funnily nearly all of them drop out of post grad pretty early cause it relies purely on independent work.
>I wrote my PhD thesis in word and it was the worst experience I've ever had with a program, at some point it broke every single reference so I had to manually go through and redo 300+ references.
Frick that sounds awful. I swear when doing assignments and writing thesis papers half your time is spent wrestling with Word and Excel just to get it to what you tell it to do. Kind of similar to how Windows is now. You tell it that you don't want to it keep installing Candy Crush so you uninstall it and then it just goes and reinstalls it behind your back during an update anyway.
windows doesnt do that
>only permanent fix is a registry hack
You literally cannot make this up.
maybe it's because i'm on win10 enterprise because i'm not a giant cuck but i have never encountered this ever.
Here's a link from 2016. As you can see this service is responsible for installing new software during updates so that it can show on the normal start menu. This means anything Microsoft or it's advertising partners wants to push.
https://betanews.com/2016/03/02/windows-10-microsoft-consumer-experience/
>thinks enterprise is somehow different or better
Next you'll be telling me that LTSC has zero telemetry or bullshit as well.
I'm just telling you what my experience is. i have never had shit installed on my pc without my knowledge or decision to do so ever in my entire time with it.
>I'm just telling you what my experience is. i have never had shit installed on my pc without my knowledge or decision to do so ever in my entire time with it.
Well, you're either not observant enough or just too much of a brainlet because the OS is literally designed to do this.
no no, i read the shit you're showing me, but i'm looking through all my programs right now, and i literally don't have anything installed that i didn't install myself. just to make sure i'm not bullshitting, and i literally do not have this problem.
strange.
>no no, i read the shit you're showing me, but i'm looking through all my programs right now, and i literally don't have anything installed that i didn't install myself. just to make sure i'm not bullshitting, and i literally do not have this problem.
It's rolled out to people selectively, just like updates on windows. People don't get the latest windows updates all at once for a good reasons. If it hasn't been rolled out to you, that's great. But it does happen. I've been using Windows for nearly two decades now I wouldn't make this shit up. And you can find widespread accounts of it on the internet. Specifically King products like Candy Crush Saga. Because surprise surprise, M$ has deals with King.
>Ghost Spectre Windows.
>pajeet flavors of Windows that aren't audited
Please do not do this, we told you that you shouldn't be fricking doing this back in the XP days as well.
>windows doesn't do this
Does it not? You can google what this service does and personal accounts from people with windows ten since launch if you want to fact check yourself.
I thankfully used origin for all my data analysis it's a lot more tolerable and has pretty graphs.
is this how racism works
you just say some shit about something you don't know anything about and people 100% take you seriously because they also don't know shit about it and will just believe your horse shit to confirm their own bias?
Based. I also had to go through my references by hand but only due to my autism and not trusting pajeetOS
I'd recommend using some reference manager. Only problem is that word will arbitrarily decide to hate them.
I used Citavi and bib me for shit it doesn't recognize. I still went through it reference by reference.
Smart.
Basically what happened with me was instead of having 1 bibliography with 300 references, I had 300 bibliographies with 1 reference.
I've been running Kubuntu for years and have been gaming on it.
>Install Steam
>Tell it to use Proton
>Press Play
Thats 90% of games now. The amount of homosexualry around the pro and anti Linux is too much for me to handle so I barely ever mention that I'm on Linux.
I use it, im happy with it, I game on it every day, it doesn't get in my way, and I enjoy the lightness of it compared to Windows. Its that simple. Use whatever OS you want, I genuinely cannot think of a thing that I care less about than what OS another person is running. Maybe the Presidential election of Guyana or something, idk
Good shit Anon. I hope you enjoy your gaming but I also hope that Apt doesn't inevitably break on you.
Well I've been using it for years and it hasn't broken yet, nor do I see why it would.
why do i need to install a distro when I can just use cygwin?
I've messed with it on my laptop and I actually like it, though I don't know how well Gnome works with multiple screens. That and I've heard there's some NVidia problems with Linux so for the time being I'm just rolling on LTSB2016
If I didn't want to play random old vidya I'd probably already be on it.
How do I install the flying car mod in Cyberpunk? I use Lutris to play it
Is xubuntu any good? I like xfce
It's pretty solid. Got no real complaints about it.
It's a reason why it's called xfeces. There is little active development for a long time. Use KDE or Gnome.
I'm using wsl for linux when I need it.
I'm not a troony.
don't have time to deal with troubleshooting
and I don't like my games running at stutterring 20fps
So what's the big meme about Arch?
Is there some big divide between Arch and Debian? Because I noticed some packages literally have -noarch in the name which makes me thing Arch is the devil or something.
Arch is rolling update. Debian is meant to be rarely updated.
>So what's the big meme about Arch?
Rolling release distro. Meaning that it's close to bleeding edge in terms of software and updates.
>Is there some big divide between Arch and Debian?
Debian is one of the the oldest linux distros. It's philosophy is all about stability, which means that software updates are not prioritised. This means that you can often have programs and dependencies that are sometimes years out of date all for the sake of stability and uptime. Not a very good thing for a gaming OS which often requires you making sure you've got the latest GPU drivers, updates etc. APT is also a shitty package manager.
You would think that Arch being close to the bleeding edge means things break every five minutes but that's not the case these days, and when things do break, it's usually because it's nvidia's fault. There's a reason Valve switched form SteamOS being based on Debian since 2013 to being based on pure Arch for the Steam Deck.
I am, switched fully few days ago
Using Arch and Proton
Everything runs stable with no issues
No difference in FPS over Windows
Does EAC work for sandstorm now?
Yep, runs stable, I'm playing for hours without any issues
I'm using Proton 7, my kernel is the newest one with Arch
is that Insurgency?
recommend me some DOS and windows retro games
also should i also use wine-ge for old games?
I don't care about about open source that much, I'm not an ideologue. Windows just werks and I'm a layman.
While I'm conflicted on the question of privacy, as long as I own a smartphone, I can't realistically hide a lot from anyone making an effort trying to see what type of hentai I fap to.
I'm against conceding privacy but I also still want to participate in society in some form, I've already made an effort turning off all the invasive shit on W10 and that's the least I'll do.
You can call me a useful pawn for ((them)) but whatever.
you never can turn off that shit, it's in the code.
the UI options don't do anything, they're there you to give people false impressions and peace of mind.
as for the smartphone, you could buy a Pixel 6 and install a custom ROM like Calyx, Lineage or Graphene OS.
for gaming you could use windows, but for other tasks you could use linux based distros, a compromise
Last time I tried, literally the only game I could get to run was Shadowrun Hong Kong and the title screen of DRG(it would crash to desktop if I tried to actually play), even after letting Proton do it's thing. I'm not sure if I did something wrong it of the OS I tried (PopOS) was just shit for gaming.
I might just go for a dual boot set up where I use Windows for games and Linux for literally everything else.
I want my computer to just work the way i want it to
>I want my computer to just work the way i want it to
Linux is great at that!
>Why aren't you using Linux right now?
Name a decent OS without 20 Black folk jumping in, screeching about how [Your OS] is abhorrent dogshit and [Their OS] is literally flawless.
I'll be waiting.
>Name a decent OS without 20 Black folk jumping in, screeching about how [Your OS] is abhorrent dogshit and [Their OS] is literally flawless.

BeOS
I am actually
>Not using Tex vor LaTeX for your PhD
Holy frick you will literally never ever make it
Most academics are tech illiterate and you need to collaborate with them.
It's actually that post primary education is specialization, and not actually just being "more smarter" in general. Some of the dumbest people on the planet are college grads
You don't need to tell me, I work in research labs. I have had people who genuinely couldn't figure out you shouldn't pour epoxy down the sink.
Going to make the switch soon. I'm tired of Microsoft's bullshit and don't want to upgrade to W11. This trend of bloating resources requirements is fricking cancer. Not even a hardware issue on my part, I just don't support this shit.
>want to install something on Linux
>distro's package manager doesnt have the libraries for it
>get some tarball thing from the program, no clue what to do with it
What do? I won't want to use the terminal
Type
make
make install
In the terminal
Also it probably came with a README
Sorry forgot to say, first untar the file then open the folder. In the folder right click an open space then click on "open in terminal"
Ubuntu and the derivatives are the only good choice for new Linux users. If you're not comfortable using the Terminal and just want an OS that works then thats where you need to be on.
Arch is a bit of a meme and it is very certainly not for new Linux users.
Ubuntu hasn't been good for over a decade. Everyone with half a brain uses Fedora now.
Ubuntu derivatives are the closest thing to Windows for new users. All.major software mentions it by name in downloads, it looks a bit like Windows and it is designed for newbies and the Linux curious.
The point isn't what is better than what as an operating system because that's a moronic concept because users have different requirements. The point was about people who have never tried Linux and wanted to. Ubuntu is the closest thing in terms of usage and popularity.
No.
Yes.
Stop being a preachy autistic homosexual about your Loonix distro. Nobody cares. Take that energy to the gym instead
You're the one being preachy homosexual. Ubuntu hasn't been what you describe it as for a literal age. Move on.
Its exactly that, which is why it is by far the most used distro and why it is the distro that all games target compatability towards.
It's the most distro because it used to be what you described it as. Over a decade ago. And people are averse to change. Same reason people still use Windows. Get over it.
>Arch-based: 29.11%
>Ubuntu: 19.63% (24.42% if you include Pop!_OS)
Ubuntu was popular until around 2016. Mint has been the standard for n00b Linux since then, and Arch for those who actually know how to use their computers.
When Valve moved SteamOS from being Debian-based to being Arch-based you know something was changing.
It's almost like Ubuntu (and derivatives were the suggested OS directly by Valve)
>Its exactly that, which is why it is by far the most used distro and why it is the distro that all games target compatability towards.
I'm not the OP but he's right bro. Ubuntu and it's derivitives haven't been relevent for about a decade. That's partly due to mismanagement by Canonical and it's apathy towards things like gaming or having the latest packages.
>You can do it literally with a 30-lines bash script and maim + xclip + curl.
Sure, and that's what PC's are all about. You can grab some program that someone's made which automates everything with GUI's and so on, or you can get your hands dirty and come up with your own solutions like Maim+slop. There are people still pushing the narrative that the only option for Linux is getting your hands dirty and it couldn't be further from the truth. Windows use to be about letting you go both ways but now it deliberately gets in your way if you try to do the latter.
Yeah, ten years ago. Get with the times.
Right on cue
>Yeah, ten years ago. Get with the times.
Anon, making basic observations about how things go isn't being in the past, but being stuck in the present is a good way to wreck your car.
Because I don't want to spend my time fixing shit that should just werk.
>Because I don't want to spend my time fixing shit that should just werk.
Agreed. Which is why I don't use Windows.
Lol okay loonixgay, I don't give a shit what you use.
Neither do I, moron. See how this works?
The thread is asking people why they don't use Linux. So I replied to that question. Someone obviously cares.
You on the other hand are a little b***h who felt he should defend his wienersucker OS. I will not give you any more (You)s, you pathetic waste of space.
>Getting this angry over an operating system
Touch grass kiddo
Not even the OP. Go be ignorant somewhere else if it bothers you that much.
I like playing around with it in virtual machines if anything. Out of all the distros I've tried I like Arch the most.
Manually installing it if I'm bored is almost therapeutic. Does what I want.
I like EndeavourOS. Just werks.
It's basically Windows but it makes you feel good for using it. Since most OS are just bootstrappers for web browsers and Word there is no reason to use Windows or God forbid pay for it if you don't use proprietary software.
Endeavour's great if you want a quickly pre-configured Arch install. Also recently they've started offering ARM installs which is neato.
I use Endeavour on my laptop and desktop and the Arch image for my autism phone. Works great.
What benefit does linux provide for the average tech illiterate consumer?
It doesn't cost any money.
For tech illiterate people, thats probably the biggest thing.
DE's with user interfaces that are solely designed around usability and not advertising space.
>Windows, false sense of security edition
Go right ahead.
Linux is difficult to use and lots of programs don't work, at least not straight away.
I like that linux is open source, spies less on people and don't support big tech monopolies, though.
if you were not a homosexual then you would be helping solve this problem
>Linux is difficult to use and lots of programs don't work, at least not straight away.
Never had any issues with my installation and it wasn't hard to set up either. Of course I use xubuntu, so everything just werks
the wintards conflate hard and different
they cant tell the difference between the 2 worlds
We're approaching a point where becoming "easier to use" will mean adapting Linux into the coping mechanisms of Windows users which will just make it harder to use but more familiar.
This isn't like Windows posting wokeshit, Linux isn't a monolith that has to push everything past their marketing department for approval to post soulless LGBT propaganda for the marketing points.
Linux foundation is just some consortium with Linux in their name that supports its development.
>sudo pacman -S <package name>
vs
>opening your web browser
>using israelitegle
>going to some butthole's webpage
>downloading the .exe
>running that shit without knowing anything about its content
>watching out fort adware
>waiting for the install wizard to finish
>sudo pacman -S <package name>
And if that jargon scares them
>yay <package name>
>chose corresponding number in a list
People seem to hate yay but I like using it if I am feeling lazy.
People hate yay because paru is better.
>People seem to hate yay but I like using it if I am feeling lazy.
Just people b***hing that you should be reading PKGBUILDS, which it prompts you to do anyway.
sloth
I use EndeavourOS. No complaints.
Linux isn't worth it. I will migrate to BSD when the time comes.
>Linux isn't worth it. I will migrate to BSD when the time comes.
Stand back guys, make way for the Ultimate Contrarian.
Tries Linux around 2016, stopped using it as main desktop OS around 2019. Windows runs most of my software without problems, that includes open-sourse stuff such as OBS and GIMP.
Also the following services don't work on PenguinOS
- GamePass - Windows
- O365 Family - Office + 1 TB OneDrive storage for up to 5 people.
- BattleNet - Cancer but still
- Epic Game - FreeGames, still a cancer launcher
Battle net and an Epic replacement works perfectly. O365Fam is online is the it? So its browser based therefore works on everything?
GIMP obviously works well on Linux as it is a Linux program primarily
>GIMP
Good for image manipulation, poor for anything else. GIMP + Krita is good though.
>GamePass
You are walking cancer.
Game Pass obviously doesn't work on anything but Windows, you could always replace it with a current Xbox though.
>battle.net is cancer but gamepass isn't
Come on.
>renting games is LE BAD!!!
>you should buy them all for 60$ each stupid goyim!
Renting games good when done by third parties because it drives the price of rentals down, and you aren't given a cable package scam where it's deliberately inflated with shit you'd never want and you're upcharged for it.
For EGS check out Legendary, it has a GUI but I can't recall what it's called now
i am *phoneposts*
I'm straight
Then why do you love the taste of Bill Gates' smegma?
>Linux
>Desktop
Lmao
Linux is the Nintendo Switch of operating systems -- No games, used exclusively by manchildren and does not support modern technology
Put more effort into your bait, this wasn't even marginally entertaining
>switch technically runs GNU/Linux
Don't tell him.

Valve's work on Proton has been amazing for Linux gaming.
it's almost as if Valve understands that Microsoft will frick them over any time they get a chance
True but I wish people would remember to credit the proper WINE and other devs.
Oh of course no doubt Wine and its devs should be lauded as well for starting the whole thing in the first place. Valve were just the group to create a fork of it made specifically for gaming, which has then been forked itself into things like the GE-Custom branch, which in ways is even better then base Proton.
I am doing my part!
Help I'm trying to get a mod to work in Cyberpunk through Lutris
