Why did Digimon fail when Pokemon greatly succeeded?

Why did Digimon fail when Pokemon greatly succeeded to the point of being the biggest franchise in all of human history?

Digimon games sucked dick. The anime kept getting worse after each season. Digimon designs aren't cutesy or memorable enough.

What the frick happened with season 2 anyways? It seriously felt like a hodgepodge of halfbaked ideas that ends with Myotismon outta fricking nowhere for the ending.

a prime example of too many writers with different ideas, then everyone quit so they had to tack on an ending.

They never knew what they wanted to be, the Pokemon games have been consistant from the start and the anime was a huge hit. The Digimon anime's best season was Tamers which came out after most people had kind of dismissed it and the games were nothing alike.

Digimon World 1 was great though.

Pokemon had enough rules to the formula to appeal to everyone's mild autism. Digimon is for dummies (no consistency across the IP) but occasionally puts out something nice in a vacuum.

Pokemon made Pokemon fans while Digimon made fans of XX or YY Digimon thing, and the former strategy is clearly more successful.

To me there's something amusing that digimon, aside from Renamon, has a pretty low amount of porn, something like 20k?, despite designs like the OP being on-model yet Pokemon with it's kiddy designs has 200k+ porn pics for the Pokemon themselves.

there's more thrill to sexualizing something thats not inherently sexy

look at angewomon. perfect body shape, revealing clothes. very sexy. not a lot to add

but then you have this. it adds a thrill

Casuals only watched OG Digimon and Tamers. So it’s no surprise if you see Angewoman and Renamon get a lot of porn.

          Anonymous

Angewomon and other human monsters don't actually have a lot of porn. Angewomon I think has less than 800 pictures according to paheal while Renamon has over 15k. Even in terms of human monster designs Dark Magician Girl has over 6k. Clearly the digimon, aside from Renamon, never really stood out to catch the attention of others. Hell I think Renamon has more porn than any of the Pokemon but that's just the nature of people who like it and Pokemon, they tend to produce a lot of porn.

Theres more gay furry porn than anything when it relates to digimon, female humanoid digimon r34 is pretty much a drop in the bucket in comparison and 75% of that involves Ladydevimon and Angiwomon

The answer should be glaringly obvious when you compare the two side by side. Digimon tried too hard to reinvent the wheel with each iteration, and this extended to both the anime and the games.

You know what the most popular Digimon anime are? Adventure, Tamers, and to a lesser extent Savers. You know what they all have in common? They're Digimon stories without overly intrusive gimmicks. Sure, Tamers had cards and Savers had digisoul, but if you stripped them away no one would really notice. They were flavor, as Digimon still mostly evolved the same way they always did. Now look at the not-so-loved series. 02, Frontier, Xros Wars, etc. Intrusive gimmicks, to the point that it bogs down the storytelling.

On the video game front it's an even worse story. Before the first Digimon Story on the DS, Digimon games were largely all over the place. The World series changed genres with every new iteration, and then you had spin-off titles like the smash clones. They weren't bad, but it was all over the place without any real identity. And that doesn't even scratch the surface with all the JP only shit like the wonderswan games. It's no coincidence that Digimon games went through somewhat of a renaissance once they started settling in to their own set of formulas by making DW1 sequels and Digimon Story sequels.

Pokemon in contrast, people frequently complain about how the games never change, but it's been the secret to its enduring success. Consistency sells, people like what's familiar, something they can keep coming back to. Pokemon has a very clear cut identity, both to its anime(as shitty as it is) and to the games, and that's why it's been such a massive and enduring success.

Pokemon already had the concept down in a far more cohesive way, and had a successful TV show, and card game, and video game series, and countless amounts of merchandise, all before anyone knew what Digimon was. I also observed that Digimon was a pussy repellent as no girls were into it, only nerdy boys who previously liked shit like Gundam Wing. Meanwhile Pokemon was for everyone.

Digimon honestly had horrible management. Especially in the game departments. Management still sucks to this day.

Just to give you an idea, Digimon Suvive was supposed to be a filler game, but they made it too ambitious and now it’s in development hell. They have to reprogram shit

Pokemon had mass appeal, digimon was strictly boys for a long time not to mention it became a thing in the tail of pokemon so it was doomed to be seen as a clone due to the similar name.

Digimon games were almost never polished or high quality while Pokemon games, while braindead easy and simple, were quality games. The superior monster collecting game will always be Dragon Warrior Monsters though.

Digimon tried to have the game grow up with their audience and gotten moronic with the story as a result. They've also design the waifu to cater to a specific fanbase instead of a wider audience, which is why most Digimon waifu's are rather forgettable while Pokemon waifu's are more timeless in a sense. Also, Digimon's final designs are basically human wearing funny costumes (and it's even a plot point about that) while Pokemon does not.

    >Digimon failed
I wouldn't call lasting 20+ years with several anime seasons, games, and toys a failure by any means. It just didn't get as popular as Pokemon.

I think it's because Pokemon is just so fricking dead simple as a concept. Every normalgay brainlet understands pokemon, even girls. The designs tend to be cute and simple as well. And Pokemon essentially never changes. Combine that with the huge marketing and you have a massive success.

Digimon is a slightly more complex and less straightforward concept, although I personally find it more interesting. However it it's always changing, so normalgays can't just get into it.
