A video game based on a popular license isn't anything new, we all like a show or film, and it's natural to want to play a video game based on what we like.
nta, but I was a child in South Carolina, and everyone I knew wasn't allowed to watch Ed Edd n Eddy because "It's degenerate", granted they still watched Nick shit like Spongebob.
Oddly enough, they went on to be Family guy watchers, and the ones who didn't have TV restrictions just jumped to South Park and shit.
Some parents are just weird about certain media. My father told me I couldn’t watch Captain Planet because it was, and I quote, “environmentalist propaganda.” Which was true, but cmon man, I liked the show. I went to public school anyway, it’s not like I wasn’t being hammered with environmentalism my entire childhood
Didn't Captain Planet outright have a eugenics episode?
Actually, 2 eugenics episodes, where one just outright said "That child limit in China is actually a good idea"

Yes and yes. Both of these posts are true lmao. With the eugenics episode it was something about “the first world shouldn’t have babies because it saps resources from third world countries” or some nonsense
There were plenty of evangelical schizos accusing Spongebob of being gay. Not as many as the ones calling Harry Potter and Pokemon satanic, but they were there.
>There were plenty of evangelical schizos accusing Spongebob of being gay
It's very sad to me that they ended up being correct, if you take modern Nickelodeon's word for it. I completely disregard any continuity after Season 3 and the Movie, but still.
>I completely disregard any continuity after
Exactly. Stephen Hillenburg was adamant in not letting Nick do spin-offs or dumb Baby Muppets tier prequels of his show, and they literally waited for him to die before they went ahead and did both anyway.
A lot of parents just thought the show was moronic and didn't want their kids to watch it. I wasn't banned from watching it but my parents complained about it often.
Now my mom has been watching it with the grandkids and she's like, "this is actually way funnier than I thought it would be."
My parents thought this show was moronic and were pretty religious back when I was a kid. Only let me watch 80 and 90's shows. That's the gist of it. They let me watch modern shows, but they had to be Charlie and Lola tier, really tame.
>Ducktales NES >Simpsons arcade >TMNT arcade >Basically every other Konami beat em up >Every LJN game >Capcom X-Men >Goldeneye >All slobbered on as some of the best games ever
What is it you gays and projecting shit that always existed and always will exist, is your identity that fragile
I rented these games at blockbuster. I would never use my jobless childhood money on shovelware. That's what game rentals were for. And being a child, sponge bob was kino
It was the height or just after the height of SpongeBob’s popularity. It’s a 3D platformer when they were all the rage. Is this a real question? Probably not.
Spongebob was extremely popular and a lot of them probably received the game as a birthday or Christmas gift from their parents who knew they loved the show if they didn't outright ask for a Spongebob game themselves
I was possibly the most high-quality of the SpongeBob games. The devs wanted to make a good game using the IP instead of just phoning it in with the assumption that the name itself would sell copies.
It is actually better than ok, absolutely not bad. I would compare it to a rare N64 era game. If you have any attachment to Sponge Bob, what so ever, you may enjoy the game. The levels where you grind on poles/vines etc are very challenging but they pay off if you get the hang of it. Also the ending battle/level fits in line with an epic giant multi stage battle.
>zoomers base their entire lives and personalities around Spongebob
you're thinking of mid-late millennials, zoomers base their entire lives and personalities around Black folks
I played the "remaster" after hearing the hype about it despite never having played it back then and I was pretty impressed. It helped that it hit my expectation just right that it was an above average janky licensed platformer that somehow managed to be fun enough and it was exactly just that
My zoomer gf asked me if I liked Bob squarepants, I replied that he has a punchable face, and she replied with "you're such a Chad"
It feels weird that zoomers talk in memetics irl
I really hate it. The internet has warped everybody's minds. At least in the 2000s, the internet was still a somewhat separate thing from daily life. Oh well, can't turn back time.
>It's more late millennials, zoomers didnt really grow up with Spongebob, Remember, Spongebob started in 1999.
What. That means zoomers would've been single digit when first few seasons were airing, and it was often reran for years as the golden goose of nick

Zoomer born in 98 here. I grew up with classic SpongeBob. People have a REALLY bad conception of the different generations.
You can literally not care all you want, but I'm going to call you out when you say something stupid like saying zoomers didn't grow up with SpongeBob.
Spongebob is still running, as far as I know, most of Nick's schedule is nothing but spongebob reruns or has been that way for quite a while. I'm not sure if Loud House or something changed that.
>I don’t know why vocal SpongeBob haters come out of the woodwork around here. It’s the most benign, inoffensive thing to be a scrooge c**t about
Not to be an ass but welcome to Ganker
Completely disagree. Feels way more like a tie in. Boring backtracking, time wasting arena fights, try hard mission variety, it's just too much bullshit.
It's not a bad game but it's half as good as its predecessor
Despite all the seethe for whatever reason itt, the reason is because it was a console game based on the biggest cartoon craze of the time. And it being good surely helped with word of mouth.
I remember being often extremely frustrated with the game but playing it anyway because I liked spongebob. I don't remember if I knew it was a bad game because kid me had lower standards and more tolerance for total bullshit
Very true. What a lot of people forget is that a lot of kids will play literal garbage and not question if it's good or bad. They may drop a game, but not because it's bad, but because it's hard or frustrating. I played a lot of bad licensed games as a kid and didn't even question it, but later on realized why I did or didn't like some games.
I didn't, I played GTA and CoD because my parents didn't want me to be a pussy who likes cartoons when I grew up
And now you browse this shit hole looking for Spongebewb threads to post in.
Games based on TV shows are for people with no personality so it's expected that a generation without personality played it.
Ok grampa
Grampa board, unoriginal zoomer.
>t. Seething geriatric
A video game based on a popular license isn't anything new, we all like a show or film, and it's natural to want to play a video game based on what we like.
That's exactly right, anon.
Every generation with games played games based on TV shows
This goes for every generation
Except ducktales was good show. Spongebob was trash past season 1
Spongebob was great until after the movie, the movie itself was good too.
You're really going to act like LJN wasn't making a boatload off of dumb parents in the NES and SNES era using this exact grift, huh?
My parents banned me from watching this show. Never watched it as an adult either, so game never played.
what appalachian ghost town are you from where parents ban their kids from fricking spongebob?
nta, but I was a child in South Carolina, and everyone I knew wasn't allowed to watch Ed Edd n Eddy because "It's degenerate", granted they still watched Nick shit like Spongebob.

Captain Planet tier "don't litter" messages isn't really the same as sending out pipebombs
Didn't Captain Planet outright have a eugenics episode?

NTA, but a similar story would be for Rugrats for my cousins. My uncle thought that show was teaching young kids to misbehave.
My parents thought this show was moronic and were pretty religious back when I was a kid. Only let me watch 80 and 90's shows. That's the gist of it. They let me watch modern shows, but they had to be Charlie and Lola tier, really tame.
I never had it

Spongebob was huge and the game was fun.

OI OI OI, you shittin on the weegles c**t?

Why did Kojima rip it off?
Why do zoomers love this game so much? What is so special about it compared to every other redditbob game?
I was possibly the most high-quality of the SpongeBob games. The devs wanted to make a good game using the IP instead of just phoning it in with the assumption that the name itself would sell copies.

The amount of squeaky-voiced teenage boys who try to talk like 30 year old black men these days is astounding. Literally all of them do it.
And Black folks base their entire lives and personalities around spongebob, your point?
This, my zoomer cousin still doesn't have his driver's license.
zoomers hate cars and push the 15-minute city meme
I played the "remaster" after hearing the hype about it despite never having played it back then and I was pretty impressed. It helped that it hit my expectation just right that it was an above average janky licensed platformer that somehow managed to be fun enough and it was exactly just that
For me? It’s Arthur! Ready to race.

Zoomers gonna zoom
I didn't play a single spongebob game growing up
t. born in '98
It's more late millennials, zoomers didnt really grow up with Spongebob, Remember, Spongebob started in 1999.

This one was miles better tho.
I actually still have my copy of this. Can’t say I agree but it’s still decent. Same engine and a lot of the same assets IIRC
I don’t know why vocal SpongeBob haters come out of the woodwork around here. It’s the most benign, inoffensive thing to be a scrooge c**t about

Lol I didn't play this but I played Revenge of the Flying Dutchman which was AWFUL in hindsight. Man I really got shafted
>getting a notoriously bad SpongeBob game instead of a notoriously good SpongeBob game
Yeah, you got screwed hard.
I remember being often extremely frustrated with the game but playing it anyway because I liked spongebob. I don't remember if I knew it was a bad game because kid me had lower standards and more tolerance for total bullshit

The fact that this game and BFBB are only a year apart is insane to me
Two different developers.
Simpsons Skateboarding & Hit & Run have the same distinction.
It's unironically the best platformer of that gen
