Godrick is a canonical shitter and so he is blocking any tarnished from approaching and claiming his rune which will risk his position in keeping the lands between stagnant.
He's designed to get players who followed the guidance of grace as per Varre's instructions to frick off and explore the open world. They do it twice: once with the tree sentinel, once with Margit.
They were thinking that because Godrick is the first shardbearer boss and most players will fight him at level 20-30, it'd be nice to refight him with more health when you have a more developed build.
It's basically just so people who liked fighting godrick get to fight that final phase again as an actual boss
Loreshitters will handwring back and forth about it, but it's simply a gameplay reason. It's basically them making I guess bossrush/revist Godrick.
They really, really should've made the evergaols far more interesting than they were. If they were like Uber versions of bosses it'd be way cooler. Like "Memory of Renalla" and you go into the evergaol and the whole area gets transformed with different mobs and stuff. They did similar with the Ordina town thing, all of them should've been like that

Godfroy in the lore is simple.
After Marika shattered the Elden Ring there was a tentative alliance of the runebearer factions (Sans Omen Twins who where still in the sewers) that lasted for a short time with them all being stationed within Lyndell.
Then someone broke the alliance (Likely Godfroy as political representative of the Golden Lineage post Godwyn's death, Radahn who was a Godfrey Fanboy, and possibly Rykard) and those armies marched on Lyndell.
During this event Godrick who was still a twink like the grafted scions disguised himself as a women, stole treasures from Lyndell and slipped out of the city, while Morgott left the sewers and heroically broke the siege then became the Veiled King.
During this turning of the tide Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff kicked Godfroy's ass and got him locked him up in the gaol.
After the siege Godrick as the Runebearer for the Golden Lineage rallied the remaining troops and fled to Stormveil, the personal castle of the Golden Lineage and started grafting himself from here.
This also explains why despite being right next to each other Godrick and Radahn's men never seemed to clash and why Malenia had to make Godrick fold before getting to Radahn.
The reason Godfroy looks like Godrick is a gameplay contrivance, and not being able to comprehend these aspects of the lore is a clear sign of some who ignores all the victory monuments.
Frick I already fricked up so slight correction. Godrick was already the rep of the Golden Lineage for the First Siege of Lyndell just not grafted yet. That makes Godfroy just another member of the Golden Lienage. My bad for overthinking it.
Godefroy fricks up the lore because it implies that Godrick's grafting was a thing even before the shattering where as without his existence it's implied that Godrick took it up after his duel with Malenia. It doesn't make sense that a freaky monster man would make fun of her for being an amputee and it also jives with his personsality that his conclusion after losing would be that his limb count advantage simply wasn't high enough. Plus Roderika's dialogue implies that most people don't know "the spider" is actually Godrick, which seems unlikely if he was always grafted.
Grafting being a thing and Godrick doing it himself to not need to come into being at the same time. Grafting could of just been a known and done thing for the Golden Lineage beforehand the a duel is what caused Godrick to take it up.
Hell if you want to go cracksmoking head cannon about it you can make an argument that the reason Godwyn looks like a fish man is because he grafted fish parts, which also ties into the rumors that the deathblight thorns are caused by grafting as a fricked up series of lore telephone
They should've made him reappear as a golden shade, like godfrey. That would've been nice. I don't even know the lore reason for godfrey's shade, if there is one
Morgott is the "veiled monarch." goldfrey is the illusory face of the administration, and a bodyguard blocking the path before people could see that morgot's an omen.
Morgott is the "veiled monarch." goldfrey is the illusory face of the administration, and a bodyguard blocking the path before people could see that morgot's an omen.
Godefroy is basically a stronger Godrick for people who like the boss design and want a proper fight with some HP and damage scaling since even NG+ cycled Godrick is a pushover. Rennala also has this problem where she's so early into the game and so weak even in the second phase that the design kinda gets wasted, which is doubly disappointing since she's one of the few real spellcaster bosses in the game.
Rennela can by a hard boss for some people (int enjoyers) due to her massive int resist but yeah hopefully her sister is the "Rennala but malenia tier" hardmode version.
He is technically the one in charge of the Night's Cavalry (those horesback bosses who only come out at night) and in earlier versions of the game they would apparently go more out of their way to hunt down the player at nighttime.
>Cower in fear, of the night!
And just like that, i traveled by day all the time and never met a Night Cavalry until the Forbidden Lands where you can't tell the time due to the fog.
Canonically, I'd guess that Morgott knows Godrick is an absolute jobber, and doesn't want the first tarnished to walk into the castle getting a free great rune.
it would probably be a good idea to make sure your moronic 2nd cousin doesn't accidentally get his hands on a curse mark of death that's chilling under the castle
He had a soft spot for godrick because he's a little moronic. He probably just didn't want anyone picking on his moronic grandnephew or something
Too bad he's not moronic enough to earn MY sympathy
Gimme dat great rune, b***h
If Godrick didn't want to get his ass beaten like a five dollar hooker then he shouldn't have made his great rune the best in the game, that little moron deserves everything he gets.
So anons ask how vyke got 2 great runes but when you load the game up he is hunched over the corpses of ensha and jerren.
If each had 1 rune he claimed them then.
What I don't get is were they 2 different great runes from the 7 we get? Or were one of the big bosses killed before and they reclaimed them when vyke went coo-coo ?
It doesn't matter to the narrative which they were. All that matters is he is alive hunched over 2 other people that canonically search for runes like the player.
From I feel like just pulls 'time is convoluted' super easily on this kind of thing
Like, surely Gideon would've had 2 great runes in-universe to talk as much shit as he does and have been given favor by the 2 Fingers, but in-game he obviously has none. Grandma even says you're his equal when you get one

The real answer is that wasn't their intention. If you read up on the development process under Miyazaki you'd find that figuring out where shit goes is the most haphazard part of their development. Entire bosses are often renamed, moved to a completely different part of the game, and have their lore shuffled.
This idea that Miyazaki is some genius mastermind is a myth, and only newbies and ER babies don't know that.

They boosted the swing speed of all great sword and bigger type weapons across the board. So now if you do a two handed block into guard counter your still going to eat damage but you can actually hit the opponent and a good three counter hitting is a poise break.
I set up two builds >crucible knight cosplay with ordovis and silurias weaps. Str/fth.
Was intending to use the new crucible incants with this build >blackflame monk cosplay with stitcher, peeler, and GS greatsword. Also str/fth, but it leans quality. Also am using as much sleep stuff as I can (meaning just the sword lol)
My intention was to lean into the sleep portion of the build with new sleep based equipment
My problem is that I've become too attached to the roleplay of each and I dont think I'll be able to really use as much of the new stuff as I want with them becsuse I honestly can't imagine switching armor or weapons now with them
SO, I'm making a new Goose based build. The only real requirement is that I'm gonna keep the scorpion kite sheild on my back at all times, but as for weapons, I'm gonna go into the marital arts and throwing weapons for it. Gonna make it quality so I can use as much new stuff as I want. The logic here is that Goose is an actor so he can be anything required of him, so I won't have trouble with getting attached to weapons or armor other than the sheild. Just about to enter stormveil with him
I'll respec to whatever build has the most fun new weapon like the martial art fists but I'm definitely not using spirit ashes in the DLC, they just make the game too easy
>why did they make this guy harder than godrick?
He isn't. Stay far away back and he is extremely likely to do that huge leap lunge attack where he jumps across the entire arena to strike at you.
But that attack is super easy to dodge and he follow that attack with anything which gives you free hits to punish him with after every time he does it. And better yet, even if you were to somehow fail to dodge the easily dodgeable attack. The attack is weaker than you'd think it'd be so you survive the hit and he still can't combo from the move so you're safe.
So just keep your distance. Get free hits. Run to the other side of the arena restore the distance. Wait for the huge jump. Punish. And run back to the other end of the arena again. And repeat until you win.
This works in both phases of the fight. And he somehow approaches you without actually doing the jump attack. You just run to restore distance and he will likely do it then instead.
Any coward is bound to figure this out. Anyone who flees from Margit gets a free victory.

Tree Sentinel is way easier imo then Margit. I dont think I have died a single time to Sentinel.
because fromsoft was lazy since it's just a re-used boss you'll fight again later
noob filter
I don't fricking remember any of these characters by name
Sorry about your room temp iq, anon
There's like 6 bosses all called Godfrey and they all have crowns and sticks and love trees
Elden Ring isn't known for its memorable bosses, don't worry
What the frick were they thinking with the Godrick gaol fight?
They were thinking that because Godrick is the first shardbearer boss and most players will fight him at level 20-30, it'd be nice to refight him with more health when you have a more developed build.

Actually to add onto this what Godfrey did with Serrosh could be a more refined form of Grafting that inspired it within his lineage.
They should've made him reappear as a golden shade, like godfrey. That would've been nice. I don't even know the lore reason for godfrey's shade, if there is one
Morgott has golden illusion/projection magic and made a phantom of his dad to guard the Erdtree Sanctuary.
Oh yea, that makes sense
Morgott is the "veiled monarch." goldfrey is the illusory face of the administration, and a bodyguard blocking the path before people could see that morgot's an omen.
Because that's Godefroy, Godricks jobber brother who was captured trying to sneak out of Leyndell

He was hard? I first timed him as a sorcerer.
"Cower in fear, of the night!"
Why is he even saying that?
He is technically the one in charge of the Night's Cavalry (those horesback bosses who only come out at night) and in earlier versions of the game they would apparently go more out of their way to hunt down the player at nighttime.
>Cower in fear, of the night!
And just like that, i traveled by day all the time and never met a Night Cavalry until the Forbidden Lands where you can't tell the time due to the fog.
He waifus Princess Luna/Nightmare Moon.
Nighttime is a veil of stars and he is the veiled king. Double meaning when you know stars dictate fate.
He used to lead the Night Cavalry, the black knights bosses that spawn only at nighttime. Their duty is to hunt heroes and tarnished alike.
Canonically, I'd guess that Morgott knows Godrick is an absolute jobber, and doesn't want the first tarnished to walk into the castle getting a free great rune.
He has no poise. Everyone kills Godrick in 10 seconds so they don’t see moronic delayed combos.
>so they don’t see moronic delayed combos
Yeah I don't get why people complain about margit's delayed attacks when godrick is way worse
It's because Margit's delays are variable length feints, where as Godrick is just slow and easy to learn.
margit is blocking the way to stormveil specifically because Godrick is easy picking for ambitious tarnished. he's trying to stop that.
>Godfrey was the original lord of stormveil
>Margit is guarding the entrance to stormveil
why was morgott fine with godrick stealing his Dad's castle
It's not worth the time of day to pluck an old memento spoil of his fathers conquest from the hands of a pathetic distant nephew.
it would probably be a good idea to make sure your moronic 2nd cousin doesn't accidentally get his hands on a curse mark of death that's chilling under the castle
To be fair, does he know about it?
Sure, he knows about the hot mess under his own castle, but he lives there
He had a soft spot for godrick because he's a little moronic. He probably just didn't want anyone picking on his moronic grandnephew or something

If Godrick didn't want to get his ass beaten like a five dollar hooker then he shouldn't have made his great rune the best in the game, that little moron deserves everything he gets.
Like the great rune, the castle belonged to Godwyn, meaning that Godrick was the rightful heir. Besides, the castle itself was worthless to Morgott.
Skill issue.
You'll get it as you get deeper into the game. Im not shitposting on you it is actually explained.
vagabond greatsword guy or samurai dexgay for dlc?
Dex seems to be getting more new weapons so if you want to mess around with those go dex.
Whichever you want

I didn't know the dung eater posted on Ganker
Anon...
There are over 200 Tarnished/Morgott fanfictions on A03
Fairly sure the dung eater was based on Ganker posters
He is what the devs see the solo invader types as. Volcano manor is for faux covenant lads, moghwyn are scrapping spear type seethers.
that's why it's called shitposting
Why is Morgott Margit? How does he come back when we kill him?
Uhhhh
Margit is like a hologram or some shit idk
Keep playing it gets explained. You'll run into a 2nd Margot giving you a clue as to what the first Margot was.
Time flows differently in Lordran. Oh sorry... It's an illuuuuuuusion!
There are probably "infinite" great runes, they are concepts like envy, vainglory, power, dignity etc etc as a solidified object.
Makes sense, also before anyone asks you can't trust the logo as it only has 4 rings in it so even if you double up Morgott and Mogh, either Rykard or Radahn, along side of the rebirth rune gets left out.
Basically this, the other likely killed jobbers.

The platforms on Altus have an interesting motif on them too.

Tarnished is the 2nd strongest character in the game. 1st is Ranni because you can't physically hurt her and she one shots you. My wife is so strong.
You can kill her when she finally leaves her neet tower
Isn't that just a temporary doll body?
Maybe?
Don‘t think the game mentions her having a backup or something and her being there is clearly meant to mean something
Maybe she goes back into tiny ranni but who knows
I think it is so ragged because it's the only vessel she has outside the minime and she keeps that hidden as a last resort.
