In an FPS game like battlefield/TF2 if one team is getting raped in their base I can just find a new server, or sneak past enemy lines and make a difference by myself. Past a certain point in the game of dota, you NEED to play as a team or you'll die every time

The sheer amount of time I lost was fricking over my life, I'm so glad I stopped playing it instead of spending hours each evening playing the game. I still think it's a great game, I just can't deal with the time investment.

I realized there was literally anything else I could do with my life. I took up writing as a hobby and found an outlet in creative games like Minecraft which inspired me to make videos and eventually led to becoming a semi successful Youtuber. Yep, I owe it all to quitting that piece of shit
Because whatever joy I got from it was fleeting and whatever stress I got during and after a loss was long lasting. Its also a highly committal game, you can't just drop out if something comes up without getting punished for it which became more of a problem as myself and the people I played with got older. I still have fond memories but I really wish I decided to stop sooner
I quit because they changed techies and started adding a ton of new items.
I tried coming back somewhat recently but the sheer amount of new buildings, items, map changes, and whatever the hell those new passives are makes it really daunting and I lose interest.
I like learning games, but those that I know I'll enjoy playing, and after 2k hours on beta dota 2 I know I can't guarantee that.

I was upset when I lost and felt nothing when I won. I didn't want to play unranked because it felt like a copout but I didn't want to play ranked either because people yell at you if you don't try your sweatiest since their MMR is on the line.
I have a certain skill level in games and I'm not interested in improving. I've never played Monopoly or basketball while checking a notebook or YouTube for meta guides or tips and tricks or whatever, but in video games, people expect you to behave that way. Everyone wants to win, which means their MMR goes up, which means they'll play better players, which means the odds of them winning goes down unless they put in the work to improve. But...it's a fricking game.
I've watched plenty of fighting game players. There's plenty of things to blame for your failures besides yourself, you don't need team mates to have a scapegoat.

Every game was like a 65% chance I'd feel nothing, a 30% chance I'd get mad, and a 5% chance I'd feel good. I also realized it doesn't matter how hard you try or how good you get when any game can be immediately lost just by having an awful teammate. Sure, over time you can raise your MMR, but the bad games were a waste of time that could be spent doing something actually fun.

I can tell from the start when I can play with 1 hand and still win the game or I play with 10 hands and give 200% and still lose and waste energy.
Overplus has made playing dota for me so much more enjoyable, I do not get tilted so much and I can see if my energy / effort invested in the game is wasted or not by being winnable or auto loss.
The game changes so much when you get a pos1 with 45% winrate or pos1 player with 65-70% winrate.

new hereos are poorly designed. they don't fulfill any niche, they're just made because they need to add something new every once in awhile.

gameplay for cores is just pvm gold farming for most of the match and thus very tedious
gameplay for support is more engaging but when the match is decided you're basically irrelevant
In theory these issues could be fixed but DOTA 2 is too fixated on it as a core feature
The removal of micromanagement from Dota destroys one of things that made Dota unique

The strategies you use in pre-7.00 almost feel like an RTS.
Valve probably remove micromanage to make balancing more modular but in reality than are just being lazy and old.
Watching old games of puppey enchantress or Notail Chen really shows how much things have decayed.
The game also remove alot of player expression over the years. I miss jungling. You are forced to work with your team if you or they want to try a meme strat. And it feels good when it worked.
Old Dota has its lows, but it also has the highest highs. Nu-Dota still has old dotas lows, but none of its highs.
Old Dota was so simple in design. New Dota is so bloated with so much shit that its no surprise new players are scared of learning the game.
This is the cope of a player who couldn't keep up with the game. Its not the changes to the game that have rendered your old strategies unplayable, its that they were always garbage. The playerbase as a whole is much better at the game now than they were a decade ago. While its true that dedicated jungling was purposefully removed, the reason for its removal was that it was always such a terrible strategy that it was effectively griefing the other players on your team. Micro units are still very playable to this day though, you should step out of the imaginary cope-bubble you've created for yourself and try it.
I played 50 hours and quit. Same with putting 100 in League and i came to the realization that ASShomosexualS are joyless experiences and the moments that do feel like fun then get slapped on the wrist because "muh COMP MUH SKINNERBOX, YOU HABE TO PLAY THE META!"
And for what? I hardly learned anything from a match to match basis other than "follow a spreadsheet" and that just isnt fun

Neutral items were when I gave up trying to stay up to date with this game. I stuck with it through talents, and the shit show that was them unfricking that system, but I didn't stick around for however many patches it took to unfricking neutral items. I know that they did, eventually, but on release it was just dogshit. And to be honest I still don't care for the system at all. Stuff like new map with the portals and the cube boss, and now whatever the frick "facets" are just tell me that I made the right choice.
It's not the same game and the knowledge I built up from 2k+ hours is just worthless so I'm not interested.
Neutrals got fixed far faster when they simply let you choose out of of 5 options. Overall they have been far less damaging than talents and in my opinion facets but we can only know that with time. You should be able to build your hero via items and levels in any direction not decide it permanently at the start of the game, one of the issues talents was the permant upgrade oops didnt pick it guess YOUR FRICKED

Locking the drop count ruined the feel and then turning them into little talent choices ruined the identity even further

But I didn't. Just had a game as Leshrac where I turned my lost lane around the moment I hit six because my opponents kept running into my Pulse Nova under my Tier 2 Tower. Maybe I got 2k shitters or account buyers but it was funny as frick farming them until I had my Bloodstone.

I tried coming back somewhat recently but the sheer amount of new buildings, items, map changes, and whatever the hell those new passives are makes it really daunting and I lose interest.
I like learning games, but those that I know I'll enjoy playing, and after 2k hours on beta dota 2 I know I can't guarantee that.

I was upset when I lost and felt nothing when I won. I didn't want to play unranked because it felt like a copout but I didn't want to play ranked either because people yell at you if you don't try your sweatiest since their MMR is on the line.
I have a certain skill level in games and I'm not interested in improving. I've never played Monopoly or basketball while checking a notebook or YouTube for meta guides or tips and tricks or whatever, but in video games, people expect you to behave that way. Everyone wants to win, which means their MMR goes up, which means they'll play better players, which means the odds of them winning goes down unless they put in the work to improve. But...it's a fricking game.

Every game was like a 65% chance I'd feel nothing, a 30% chance I'd get mad, and a 5% chance I'd feel good. I also realized it doesn't matter how hard you try or how good you get when any game can be immediately lost just by having an awful teammate. Sure, over time you can raise your MMR, but the bad games were a waste of time that could be spent doing something actually fun.

There is a forced 50/50 .. if you are an overplus user like me and see all winrates and wins/losses of the last games you can tell at the beginning which side is meant to be winning.

I can tell from the start when I can play with 1 hand and still win the game or I play with 10 hands and give 200% and still lose and waste energy.
Overplus has made playing dota for me so much more enjoyable, I do not get tilted so much and I can see if my energy / effort invested in the game is wasted or not by being winnable or auto loss.
The game changes so much when you get a pos1 with 45% winrate or pos1 player with 65-70% winrate.
Completely different game from the moment you accept your match.

The strategies you use in pre-7.00 almost feel like an RTS.
Valve probably remove micromanage to make balancing more modular but in reality than are just being lazy and old.
Watching old games of puppey enchantress or Notail Chen really shows how much things have decayed.
The game also remove alot of player expression over the years. I miss jungling. You are forced to work with your team if you or they want to try a meme strat. And it feels good when it worked.
Old Dota has its lows, but it also has the highest highs. Nu-Dota still has old dotas lows, but none of its highs.
Old Dota was so simple in design. New Dota is so bloated with so much shit that its no surprise new players are scared of learning the game.
If you want to micromanage then use heroes that force you to micromanage, the game has never been as complex and action packed as it is right now.
This is the cope of a player who couldn't keep up with the game. Its not the changes to the game that have rendered your old strategies unplayable, its that they were always garbage. The playerbase as a whole is much better at the game now than they were a decade ago. While its true that dedicated jungling was purposefully removed, the reason for its removal was that it was always such a terrible strategy that it was effectively griefing the other players on your team. Micro units are still very playable to this day though, you should step out of the imaginary cope-bubble you've created for yourself and try it.

I got in way back in the closed beta, when they used Unreal Tournament spree announcements. It was just boring.
Neutral items were when I gave up trying to stay up to date with this game. I stuck with it through talents, and the shit show that was them unfricking that system, but I didn't stick around for however many patches it took to unfricking neutral items. I know that they did, eventually, but on release it was just dogshit. And to be honest I still don't care for the system at all. Stuff like new map with the portals and the cube boss, and now whatever the frick "facets" are just tell me that I made the right choice.
It's not the same game and the knowledge I built up from 2k+ hours is just worthless so I'm not interested.
Neutrals got fixed far faster when they simply let you choose out of of 5 options. Overall they have been far less damaging than talents and in my opinion facets but we can only know that with time. You should be able to build your hero via items and levels in any direction not decide it permanently at the start of the game, one of the issues talents was the permant upgrade oops didnt pick it guess YOUR FRICKED

I played it too much and wasn’t enjoying it anymore. It ended up being something I would launch out of a routine I created. It always felt like hell being in a bad team that you knew wasn’t going to win but you were wasting up to an hour in a match.
