Why do people hate Veronica so much?

      Anonymous

Was it hated? It got rave reviews and was considered a must-own for the Dreamcast, but it was only ported to the PS2 the following year (same year as Silent Hill 2, MGS2, GTA3, etc.) and 2 years after to the Gamecube. So it lost quite some steam after the DC release.

Because it was somehow less innovative than RE3, it did nothing to evolve the gameplay, the maps sucked, too much backtracking, it was a stupid irrelevant side-plot and had nothing going for it besides a graphical upgrade

I know this is bait, but here I go.

          >it did nothing to evolve the gameplay
yeah and that's a good thing.
          >the maps sucked
I agree; the antarctic base sucks.
          >too much backtracking
          just like RE1, RE2, 3, 0, remake, 2remake, dead aim, outbreak and 7.
          >it was a stupid irrelevant side-plot
          you're just an idiot

It's not that bad. It's the The Wrath of Cortex of Resident Evil, or another way around depending which came first. Not at all bad games on their own but they just pale in comparison to the original trilogy.

Probably because it was the transition from survival horror RE to action horror RE. Gave us Matrix Wesker, which led to Chris hitting the roids to try to remain a match for him. Claire running down hallways, dodging gunship fire. Dual wielding.

        >survival horror RE to action horror RE
Funnily enough, Toyama said that Silent Hill came about due to RE becoming barely-horror Hollywood action in RE2.

It's the dawn of the cringe era full of shit like Steve and crossdressing homosexual Alfred, leech colonies cosplaying as Sephiroth, troony Tyrants, etc. The series didn't really get its footing back until 7, then immediately went right back to shit with 8.

No one rly dies in capcom vidyas, anon, and Wesker told Chris that it might be possible to revive Steve after the HCF managed to collect his body to take the samples of the T-Veronica Virus

Steve might be the worst video game character of all time. His only redeeming feature is that he died and will never show up again.

Because he was supposed to be Leon but Capcom chickened out and didn't want to kill their most popular character, so they used him as a substitute instead.

AKA he's a literal throwaway character.

Was Leon the favourite after 2? I'd always assumed he got popular after 4.

yeh, leon was very popular in japan

        Anonymous

Well, maybe not THE favorite as a whole (that was clearly Jill at the time if we're including the west) but he was probably became the most popular male character on average. Maybe he was the most popular character in Japan?

It's funny though, That wasn't the only time they chickened out with Leon witch such a specific scenario.
        >Leon was supposed to mutate into a bioweapon and ""die"" in Veronica, canned it and created Steve Burnside as a last-minute result
        >Leon was supposed to mutate into a bioweapon in ""die"" in the RE 3.5 beta, but canned it and recycled the plotline for Ethan Winters in RE8 instead

    He was dead homosexual
They just used the virus in his cells to cultivate new ones
He's probably alive in spirit in RE5 or something moronic like that, coursing around Jills veins
Maybe that's why her hair was bleached, her body reacted automatically to the presence of ginger hair genetics and just flushed the entire system of color entirely

From what I understand of RE5's story, Wesker basically dumped all the old viral research after he found that Progenitor was superior to his needs. Steve was tossed in the trash along with all the samples he'd collected except for the plagas.
