Why do people call PT the best horror experience and a revolution in the industry, when it did literally nothing special?

It did exactly like all the indie horror games at the time, with better graphics and Norman Feetus in the end.
Are the people saying this people who never played indie horror games? Or is this just the Kojima hype?

Into generic shti with no gameplay? Great. When it was indie games it was understandable because these were with no budget and mostly by beginners...

Shit, at least the Outlast/Alien/Amnesia formula had you being chased by something. This gave a bit more gameplay.

Literally every first person horror game made in the last 10 years is partially aping PT. No, that's not an exaggeration.

      >did nothing special
every horror game since has been copying it

The Amnesia games and Outlast came out before PT.

PT is just hype and Kojima ball sucking, although understandable. It would have been the only way Silent Hill gets a decent game again.

I'm still hopeful for f and the Unknown game done in-house at Konami by "Silent Production".
Townfall could be original too though i'm not expecting an usual SH experience.

Which indie horror games of the time are you referring to?

Mostly ARG shit, it's being a while, but I remember stuff like some SCP games, Slender, Creepypasta shit...
Kojima himself said PT was based on the popular horror indie games at the time. because he wanted to pass the game as an indie game.

You really overestimate originality of horrors in general and in these times, fnaf and amnesia, that was it, now it's pt clones

FNAF literally did not existed when PT released.
Amnesia itself started the trend of "indie horror games in first person when the protagonist cannot fight back".

Amnesia is le thing le chases you and solve le puzzles, yes all le's are necessary
                P. T. is le walk while surrounding is le weird
I don't like horror genre in general for this shit

You can't reduce a game's experience to a dry description of some of its gameplay aspects. It's like saying Super Mario World is le touch star. This argument is in bad faith and if you insist on it, or rather, can't see how, then I guess you'll never understand and this thread is pointless.

PT literally is you walking a corridor, doing random things sometimes and getting jumpscared at random
It's like that old game where you are in the stairs with slighty more interaction.

I find bewildering that you somehow thought that I was shitting on amnesia in favor of P.T. if genre evolution is just
                >run away—>walk
then it is more of a genre issue

Oh I dislike both. I don't think horror games should be that. But it's a bit annoying when people almost praise more fricking PT than the original silent hill.
Hell, even SH4 is much more scarier than PT.

Wasn't Slender, SCP and many other indie horror game this?
I remember even creepypasta games like that weird Ben Drowned ROM-HACK which did this and other creepy this thanks to internet feature (where an operator could manipulate thingss in the game. it was really impressive.)

It was le weird because it was with good graphics then, because it then just boils down to graphics and sound design

If you say so, but that level of polish in graphics, sound design, and pacing are something only a veteran game designer could deliver. Look at Layers of Fear for comparison.

Oh it did very well indeed. But it also didn't do anything new. It just perfected some things also PT wasn't done by Kojima alone but people forget this. already existing.

I can't call a game revolutionary when it's just doing things that already existed,

Yes, it wasn't made by Kojima alone, but it was under his direction. Another director, say, Neil Druckmann, might have done things very differently. I think it's also very important to consider also that it was, in the end, a teaser for a glorious comeback of Silent Hill. It was a very fun and interesting experience by itself, with people coming together online to try and solve the obtuse progression of the game, but the payoff reveal at the end also elevates it as a landmark in vidya history, as well as the reveal that names like Ito and Del Toro were involved.

Layers of Fear is PT but worse. There's a lot of boring PT clone. it's easy to make after all.
