Why do zoomers hate this version of the game when it's superior to the original in every single way?

Because I can't understand Japanese.
Reminder that Zoomer has an actual meaning in terms of demographies and its not just a buzzword for you to throw around whenever you don't like someone.
ok boomer
Ok zoomer.
the same shit was being said in 2010 in regards to millennials. this is a clear sign that regardless of age or generation this site is always filled with contrarian homosexuals.
Unironically this is an extremely unintelligent take. You are stupid. That's not being mean, that's just the objective truth. If zoomer/boomer are used as slang to mean "younger/older" people? Guess what, you dipshit? That's what those words mean. People did not wait for dictionaries to talk. Dictionaries only describe words based on how people use them.
Let me guess, you throw fits over the word "literally" even though it only means you don't understand the word and context?
>Let me guess, you throw fits over the word "literally" even though it only means you don't understand the word and context?
You got BTFO in another thread and now you're still in here seething
This post really makes me want to literally
smack a crowbar upside your stupid head.
Using that logic, wouldn't it be boomers arguing that the original is better than the DS version? As zoomers wouldn't have ever played the original as kids anyway and the DS version would have been more likely their first version of the game.
zoomers overuse the word zoomer here so the word zoomer has no meaning and Ganker has fallen for the bait and now uses zoomer for everything
It's actually completely meaningless
It's not
soul vs soulless
Because it came out before 2010. Zoomers hate everything from before 2010.
>DS
>Not Zoomie central
moron
Wabbit Twouble from 1941 will like to have a word with you.
>new levels are shit
>new characters are unbalanced with shitty gimmick abilities
>look worse than the original
>8 way movement
Having Mario's abilities split into 4 characters was just filler shit.
It's cool that they all get shine in this game but ultimately it's all just padding and filler, Original is better.
I never played the DS version, but I know there was a lot of complaining about how it controlled worse due to no joystick.
>mfw a remake remakes things
yea remade into generic shit
>Giza pyramids removed from DS version
I've had enough of this fricking moronic board
>Lakitu looks like Lakitu
OH NO THE HORROR!!!!
You moronic homosexuals will never like anything and i wish this board was nuked already
This is a generic thread, let's talk about a better topic involving Super Mario 64 DS.
Why the frick did Nintendo never use this game as a semi-basis for a 3D Yoshi game? The building blocks for one are here after all and this game clearly preferred Yoshi over the others.
How many people actually liked the yoshi games? They seemed mid at best to me.
Yoshi's story was okay but Yoshi's island was kind of crappy imo.
I always felt like it was the game you got when you asked your mom for super Mario world or 64 and she got confused in the store.
>Yoshi story was ok
>Implying Yoshi Island wasnt better than SMW
9/10 bait
Bro Yoshi's Island SNES is literally the one Yoshi game everyone agrees is good.
You’re confusing story and island for one another.
Yoshi's island and woolly world were good
Ds and story are okay
New island and crafted world are trash
>Super Yoshi World
I would play that once
change chars mechanic fricks the entire pacing, new stars are shit, graphics are ugly as shit even for DS standards
only zoomers who played this when they were 5 actually like this slop
>graphics are ugly as shit even for DS standards
nah you go too far with this one. it's a fine looking ds game.
>Worse controls in every single way
>"more content"is just a switch that starts a timer that spawns a star you have to race to in each level
>Literally adds backtracking to a fricking 3d Mario game when you need to swap characters for specific power ups
>All of Mario's powers are spread across multiple characters that kill the pacing of the game
>every character but mario is barley used
>fun glitches removed
>enemies all adopt newer and more sterile look
Yeah IDK seems way worse to me. It's insane people even consider the shitty DS one when the original game that is known for some of the most solid controls ever designed. I'm sure there are things that are cool and better than the original, but too much of what made the original good is missing for me to even consider that close to definitive.
Zoomers grew up with this game. It's Millennials that hate it
>use emulator that translates joystick movement into touch pad controls
>play at 1080p upscaled resolution
it is the definitive way to play Mario 64.
I have intense nostalgia for super mario bros deluxe on the gb color. more than any childhood touchstone it instantly takes me back to the christmas break I got it as a kid. loved all the bonus material and trinkets added to the game. however subsequently returning to smb1 no longer a child I am forced to play the original version I only have nostalgia for twice removed because as much as I love deluxe it has screen crunch that grinds the game to a halt.
It's basically the same thing with the ds version, I have intense nostalgia for that particular incarnation of 64 but there is no way I can seriously go through the entire thing with dpad controls when I can emulate 64.
Zoomers grew up with this version you slavering mongoloid tourist
You forgot OP
under massive fricking homosexual
Who goes under "cool" then?
because it's fricking ugly
Because I don’t know how to unlock Luigi and Wario
I honest to god like the ds version of 64 way more. I don't care if everyone else says it's not as good because I like it more and can't go back to the N64 version
I don't like the controls compared to the 64 version
>Loves me not
It still hurts
>Can't do all 6 stars in a single run (This was a problem in SM64 but only because you needed at least to get to the basement to get every Cap). 64 just makes it worse because you need to unlock fricking Mario in a Mario game
>Most new stars are just silver stars or switch stars
>Character switching method is super gay
>zoomers hate the zoomer version of a 90s boomer game
OK boomer
the 8-way system controlled like ass and kid me spent all the time wondering when the hell I get to play Mario.
I spent more time playing minigames than the actual game. I dont think anyone is nostalgic for generic mandate graphics either
>no BLJ
>no Gay Bowser
>plot centered on Yoshi instead of Mario
Never good.
>every single way
You're the zoomer here.
I actually liked this game purely because I could play as Wario in a proper 3D Mario game, he should have been a playable character in Wonder
It really is weird that Wario constantly gets shafted in these games when he's literally a platformer character.
Wario Land has been dead for two decades so it's not like there will be any brand confusion.
>wario as indestructible easy mode
no thanks
I'm still convinced (mandate meme aside) that Miyamoto doesn't like Wario very much.
but its not
>platformer's quality is almost always a direct correlation to how well it controls
>sm64 controls amazingly well even to this day
>ds version controls like absolute dogshit even if you use an emulator with a good controller
>and is nearly unplayable on DS hardware
Gee I wonder why the game is trash without getting into any other reasons
what? thats millennials who hate it not zoomers
>Because D-pad is worse
Yeah as if SM64's controls and movement didn't suck already
Losing analog controls is too big of a drawback.
As for the other changes, I could give or take them.
>zoomers hate this game
Nah, they're insanely autistic about it. See https://youtu.be/1EVLQ4fLFpc?si=FnjQVuHCwBEsm8Ma
>the extra star in each course boils down to collecting five silver stars scattered, or a timed 'switch star', alternating between each course
>other hidden stars generally don't add too much, the one in the mirror was cool though
>new areas are recycled multiplayer maps or one-note character unlocks with red stars
>can only swap between characters in one room in the entire game
>Yoshi is either useless or the only character you need apart from Mario, as he can start with any character cap but his baseline moveset is a novelty
>Mario having a Dobson powerup that's mostly to withhold you from getting the Flying Cap in select areas
>Luigi's backflip fundamentally breaks many platforming challenges if you don't need walljumps
>Wario is almost completely useless outside of a shitty wireless battle mode and by the time you get him, you don't really need to punch enemies off the stage
>splitting the cap effects between all characters essentially enforces you to use the newer cap mechanics
>D-Pad or touchscreen movement in a 3D game is not ideal especially in a game that is historically important to the analog stick on the N64, if not for vidya in general
>no run toggle or flip, so you have to hold Y like if it was a 2D Mario game most of the time
Not an inherently awful means to play the game, but it's ultimately SM64 with extra steps that breaks up the flow. The few things I'll give it is that Mario's walljumps are more lenient and that the minigame selection is top-tier.
>a good reply in Ganker
this has to be a pasta
I played this version at least two or so times back in 2005, maybe a bit more given that initial drought of games the DS had. Decent for portable SM64, though given the source code leaks you could probably find and play a port of the original game on a 3DS or some shit just fine these days. Can't say I've looked into romhacks that might do alternate characters better, which would be the main appeal for the DS game otherwise.
>the minigame selection is top-tier.
But the same selection is also in nsmb which is the superior game
It's give & take. NSMB has a relatively trimmed-down selection of minigames if you are playing solo (from 36 to 18), but it also has multiplayer ones and a few new solo ones while having no double-ups or derivatives.
https://www.mariowiki.com/Minigame#Super_Mario_64_DS_minigames
I mean, I enjoyed it as a kid, but the original is simply better because of controls and no character gimmicks. Like sure, being able to play as Mario and friends is cool, but being forced to leave a level just because one of the objectives arbitrarily has black bricks in the way felt really annoying and pace breaking.
then just put on one of the hats
I thought only yoshi could use those.
Is there a hack or adaptation of this without the garbage controls? Maybe a demake on n64?
There is a mod of the pc port of mario 64 that makes it look like the ds version
Unfortunately you need to join a discord for the link
I'd bite the bullet if it had the ds content, that's pretty much all I want to see.
>can only move in 4 directions instead of 16 like on analog stick
dropped. it was shit in 2004 and its shit now
