Why does every anon on Ganker seem to hate Doom Eternal
Recently got through playing the game again to see what the fuss was about, but was met with a pretty good experience
why does everyone here seem to hate it? Whats wrong with the game?
I hated the Icon of Sin as well. the real bossfight is the huge office space arena with the tyrant, BoH and Archvile all spawning together or some shit
The DLC bosses were much better for what it's worth, even the final final boss which many seem to have a problem with. The lifesteal gimmick sucked but then again Fromsoft copied it for Malenia in ER anyway.
First DLC is easily the peak of the game and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.
My biggest issue with the Dark Lord fight is that it drags on for way too long. It's 5 phases of roughly the same stuff every time. Phases 3 and 5 don't even change up the enemy spawns.
Same, tho I can tell you the reason is that 2016 had better tone and presentation and that made it more exciting, whereas Eternal was a parody of itself 60% of the time and that made the action less summer blockbuster hype-feeling and more Wile E Coyote versus Roadrunner.
This might be the case. I generally loved that they amped up the difficulty in Etenral, but everything else felt off. 2016 was just more enjoyable to me and I have more fond memories of it.
unironically because they are bad at it lol
everyone I've talked to who enjoyed boomerdoom went apeshit over eternal and old gods pt 1 not part 2 kek what a dumpster fire
how much fun you have with the game scales directly with how good you are at it
boomerdoom was better because you were just a random space marine who survived by sheer will and anger alone. all the added "slayer" backstory took a lot away from that feeling. and the arena style fights are boring, instead of potentially fighting an entire level at once as you run for your life trying to stay alive you just go arena to arena. I don't understand how nudoom could have possibly not understood how much those things added to boomerdooms
I do agree I never really liked the whole serious sam style of arena to arena gameplay that nudoom has emulated but atleast with the added movement options of monkeybars, dashes, and the shotgun hook I can atleast do things inside the arena besides hold down S.
That's how I feel about Eternal. I still prefer the original games, but the new mechanics added at least make the arena-hallway-arena map design more interesting. I like the platforming for the same reason. If we're going to be stuck going through hallways between fights, the least they can do is make use of the movement mechanics.
the newer doom mechanics are a lot of fun i agree. The only other thing that really turned me off tho was the raindow glowing items flying out of enemies and every item glowed, really ruined the immersion for me. instead of a bloodspray you so rainbow skittles pop out of dead demons? whos dumb idea was that.
It's so you can readily identify what an item is going to be without having to turn your focus to it.
But in the case of the chainsaw, it's moronic because you're always getting every ammo type, they magnetize toward you, and those pickups despawn after a short amount of time. There's no reason for them to persist in the map.

yea I dont really need them to glow for me to be able to tell what they are after playing for a while. I also don't need that orange glow on enemies, read the stagger animation and/or learn when you've hit them enough to trigger it.
Personally, I recently have been playing DOOM II and think it's one if the best games ever made. I also got recommended decino videos on youtube and learning how doom works is cool
Decino is great. I found that Okuplok slaughter map through him and found this video, its TAS but its still fun to watch good music too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEnOEzq8PuE
nah the style meter and ultrakill reviews made me REALLY hate him
his reviews on other games are always dogshit, he is only good at hard sucking Doom Eternal off, he cant even suck off any other Doom game (like 2016) he ONLY likes Doom Eternal
>he cant even suck off any other Doom game (like 2016) he ONLY likes Doom Eternal
he has praised classic DOOM (and played alien vendetta on stream before, which if you're out of the loop, is one of the first truly great megawads) and praised 2016 alot as a return to classic FPS.
Didnt know all that, to be truthful I could not get past the beginning of his "Doom Eternal is BETTER then Doom2016" without cringing myself into oblivion
I just can not stand him outside of Doom Eternal specific videos and even then he is only barely tolerable, its like every since he got popular from his Marauder video he thinks he can only get views from being A. Suuuuper into the gameplay loop of DE to a fetish type degree and B. Incredibly negative all the time
it fair not to like his eternal favoritism, though its ideal to be against what he actually says, rather than what you think he says.
>praised 2016 alot as a return to classic FPS.
So he's clueless?
in some ways it is, and the return of classic FPS when it did was 100% from 2016.

2016 is still very much a modern console shooter, but with a couple of classic elements such as an unlimited arsenal and the lack of reloading and health regeneration.

forgetting stuff like a much more beefed up enemy roster and more classic style movement (no sprint-based crap).
not to say it never knows when to deviate (like glory kills are great, but certainly alot more forgiving than normal health systems for being aggressive like you would in a classic FPS),but i find people tend to ignore the strong classic elements cause they're so used to them that unless its almost exactly like the older games, its not classic.
Apparently he stopped playing FPS games after Halo CE "ruined them" and then started again with nu DOOM
Pretty clueless yes.

not what he said, he said the copying of halos mechanics made him alot less into FPS (and he still talked about exceptions like getting back into classic FPS and mods before 2016 and liking games like the resistance series and nu-wolf)
>probably cause it's meant to be something to only used in a pinch.
Yeah, but that's stupid. There's hardly ever a reason to actually save up that fuel because there's already more than enough ways to kill the bigger enemies.
it is pretty redundant, especially after stuff like thew crucible and hammer.

I really liked the hammer specifically because it let me stop relying on the chainsaw. I still had to press a button and look at an animation, but it felt more earned because I had to do something to charge it and not wait for some passive cooldown.
That's the problem I have most with the chainsaw. You're always guaranteed to have a free charge at some point, and using that freebie gives the exact same reward as abstaining from using it and saving up 3 charges to take down a bigger foe. Ironically, it does the exact opposite of what the game wants. You can spam the couple weapons you want to most because you're guaranteed a refill roughly every 10-15 seconds.
His recent video on Blasphemous isn't any better. The guy outright says that parrying isn't good mechanics and doesn't make a good combat system, since after his video bashing Sekiro for having to master the parry, he got called a casual. He's spiteful as frick. Even more so in him comment section when he gets overly defensive about his video.
>Says he likes to be challenged by gameplay centered mechanics >Anytime a game has complicated systems but doesnt force the player to have to git gud with them he throws a fit and wants the game to force him into it >Anytime a game has a challenging gameplay centered mechanics that it forces you to get good with (Parrying and such) he throws a fit because he refuses to git gud
I can bet you a fricking kidney that when he inevitably does the promised MGR video, he'll absolutely throw a fit that MGR forces him to git gud in parrying. He's most likely hate Monsoon too.

I bet I can already guess what he is going to complain about
I can bet he is going to be so pissed that the game isnt as stealthy as previous MGS games, like the ones he played as a kid. Which doesnt force him to get good at blah blah
Hes going to complain that the bosses are to hard because they force him to get into Parrying and just generally good at the game
Hes going to complain the secondary weapons dont have enough unique uses and arent enemy specific all kills, I swear he WILL work in a way to make this game like DoomEternal
He will compare it to God of War at some point as well, also probably complain about stupid minor stuff like fighting a MG as the first level boss and there not being enough resource management or the game being too fun
>Actual anons ITT hating a game because of some streamer homosexual.
I wish I could hate you all to death. Doom Eternal is easily one of the best fricking shooters in recent years and to hate it because other people like it is fricking moronic, gay, and fricking stupid. Of course reddit, israelitetubers and other homosexuals are going to also like nudoom because it's a FRICKING GOOD GAME.
2016 was good but barebones in that every arena was small as frick and the enemy count was also laughably small. Eternal is a straight upgrade with nice sized areas to move around in and a good enough amount of enemies so I'm not having to wait for more to spawn. Weapons were better when the devs had a more clear picture of how they wanted the gameplay to be.
One of the only gripes I remember from my playthrough a year or so ago is the chainsaw not being able to kill those teleporting imp Black folk that look exactly the same as normal imps except they're purple and other smaller enemies with one gas tank.
probably cause it's meant to be something to only used in a pinch.
Personally, I recently have been playing DOOM II and think it's one if the best games ever made. I also got recommended decino videos on youtube and learning how doom works is cool

Good luck, anon. Are you going to try out pistol starting as well? It makes some of the levels way more tense. >Any DOOM II megawad recs?
/vr/'s released a lot in the past couple years. The quality can vary, but I'd say 400 Minutes and Ad Mortem are the best that we've put out.
Also, Hard Fast Friendly Maps.
not a wad but plutonia is a bit "mean", but its brutality is a good test on whether you will do well when megawads bring up the heat.
skillsaw wads are a good start for more mainstreams stuff, though also stuff like eviternity, BTSX, and JPCP (the level in JPCP are less refined, but the cultural flavor of japanese mappers makes it more than worth checking out).
once you get better, stuff like sythe (both one and two),speed of DOOM, and the later parts of alien vendetta also are great
I don't hate eternal, there are just some petty things I don't like that prevents it from topping 2016. Namely the dumb marvelshit story, all I need to know about Doomguy is that he ate 5 flintstones vitamin gummies every day and got fricking huge, and that's what 2016 portrays. Demons are being dicks again and you gotta go clap em.
Then there's all this god machine nonsense and the Makyrs and all these factions and other bullshit in Eternal and it's just, what.
You make it too obvious that you've either never played the game, or you're incredibly bad at it.

Beat it on Ultra Nightmare. Enemies and item placements are the same across difficulties, as is enemy health. The only thing that changes is attack frequency.
You've never played the game, or are hilariously bad at it.
>Endlessly spawns fodder so you can never run out of hp >Super mobile so enemies can't hit you
Between these two you can never die. It was an okay experience, but even on the hardest difficulty there was no risk of dying and thus 0 stress or challenge.
Anon, we hate it because it's popular
Because they got filtered.
nudoom is reddit
Don't you have to have a bethesda account to play it? I've been avoiding bc of that, and bc my backlog is huge rn.
Shitters got filtered because they couldn’t gauss cannon siege mode their way through the entire game
Too old to have reflexes in game
A bad final boss can sour the whole experience, I've found, and I didn't enjoy fighting the Icon of Sin at all.
I hated the Icon of Sin as well.
