Anything in Sunbreak is such a huge step back compared to Iceborne, especially in terms of production, they'd frick themselves over even more by making a direkt "end game" comparison like that.
The fights are horrid now. Spend 80% of the actual combat chasing the fricking thing around as it zooms all over the fricking place. Then it finally stands still long enough to attempt to get a hit in, it roars or jumps back.
Who thought this type of combat was a good idea? At least Goss is a decent fight. While he does ape out now and then, you can mostly toe to toe him.

impact crater is the only fricking hammer move that does decent damage to the later monsters. a lvl 3 charge crit with full crit boost only does about 300 damage using a 320 raw weap. the monsters being spastic retrds who seem to have just enough time to frame trap you just adds to the pain. My HR set was: Kaiser Crown, Ignot Mail, Kaiser Vamvraces, Anna Coil, Ingnot Greaves. Was able to max out crit eye, crit boost, wex, attack and stuns resist.
I used that all up to Malzeno. I wasn’t ping high damage. Even a 3 charge attack would end in around 600’ish damage. IC went as high as 1800 (double 900s) once.
Now I run full Malzeno with maxed out attack and wex. Still doing over 500 on 3 charges and around 900 to 1000 on IC.
I tried full Gais and the damage was insane, but my autism can’t deal with the constant health drain.

Malzeno flew over to fight Ganondorf decades ago when it came crawling out of its pit because it's the alpha ED of the region, it probably tried to do the same thing with Allmother when it noticed it. Same reason the Dos EDs and Magnamalo come in the HR version of the fight probably too.

Amazing. AT Velkhana is not every monster. People used ZSD mantle spam to farm Fatalis the first days for a reason. It's the entire reason the moronic but unique clutch HBG shot gameplay exists to begin with.

I laughed my ass off when I tried to use ZSD on AT Velk and she immediately threw me off into a hard knockdown with both rocksteady and temporal, but so far nothing in Rise will buck you off while using ZSD, and that's without mantles existing in this game. Title updates in IB really was the devs realizing mantles were too busted and finding ways to frick over players who crutched on them.

Sunbreak is undoubtedly one of the hardest G rank entries, the monsters are completely cracked out. 3U was pretty hard too, but FU gets way overblown and usually by people who played it as kids or didn't play it at all. Once you learned how to abuse the robotic movements and which shitboxes to avoid you could roll the game hard
Sunbreak with its cracked out monsters drove me to play bow. Between its mobility and range, I can finally spend most of the hunt actually fighting the monster as opposed to chasing it across the arena or having to maneuver its AoEs.

Always get to red charge fast, use the spirit helm breaker everytime you're in red for massive DMG. Don't be afraid to spam foresight slash even tho it resets ur current charge. Get familiar with special sheathe cause it's an amazing repositioning tool.

Pretty much everything from 1.0 to Forward 5.0 fits in with first and second gen mainline design aesthetics (really only Unknown and the metal fishes stick out), so they could add them pretty easily. It’s only starting with G 1.0 that designs get a bit fricky, since they got a new art director or something around that time. Even then there’s more decent designs than shitty ones, so plenty of usable content for mainline.

Like 90% of Frontier monsters have good fights that would convert decently enough into mainline fights if you use any of their HR versions. It’s the GR versions where the fights started getting into wacky DBZ tier shit. Even the monsters added during Frontier G have pretty grounded fights when you fight them in HR instead of GR, it’s just their designs that are silly. As a consequence though, most G Rank exclusive fights are way over the top with no less crazy version available.

Espinas was the earliest Frontier original monster (Lavasioth and Hypnocatrice were a collaboration with the mainline team, hence why they were in Freedom Unite a couple of months after Frontier’s launch) and the unofficial flagship for the entire game, so bringing him over first to test the waters makes sense. I’m expecting to see a bunch more early Frontier monsters in MH6 though, maybe some Frontier G monsters that are popular like Barlagual or Toridcless too.

It's implied there's still something else even bigger than Gainsgolem and Morbius kicking off the game's events in postgame dialogue. Fio and Galleus muse about the timing of everything is odd, so probably whatever they're saving for the final TUs is causing it.
I’m guessing so, it’s implied that Malzenos never used to utilise Qurios in the past but seemingly evolved to be compatible with them to better compete with Gaismagorm who already used them. So it was a survival of the fittest kind of deal where only the Malzenos capable of competing with Gaismagorms survived and passed on their genes.

Narwa and Ibushi are fun to me. Narwa feels engaging enough that I'm never dosing off like the others, then her dangerous bits are actually fun. Like the dragonators and last 10%. Just a genuinely fun back and forth, whilst also cinematic as frick. Rare they nail both.
Try learn the fights ins and outs. There's a lot of cool stuff in there.
Tyr/Myria was pretty bad in 1, but Deathevan in 2 and Myria in 3 were big improvements. But enough about Breath of Fire. As for Monster Hunter, it's impressive that the World team could take a fight that was already made and quite good and turn into the complete shit that is Xeno'Jiiva. Looks cool though.

I was a bit worried when after the first hermit crab, all the monsters I had the option to fight were the same c**ts I’ve been able to fight since low rank, but things really picked up at the end. The spoopy second werewolf fight, the Admiral knocking gaymagorg back down to Hell, and Fio and the crew actually being helpful during the fight was actually pretty cool.

Just Rage Slash all day every day. Draw, cancel to tackle, then second tackle, then Rage Slash in any direction. Time your tackles to tank roars and such, and learn to get hit during Rage Slash. Don't panic and just tank those hits. You will not die.
You can use the counter with Rage Slash for those faster monsters like Seregios and normal Rajang too
Of course ideally TCS counter would be your go-to, but sometimes due to the shape of the monster or them passing through you for many attacks, TCS won't make it in time even after a counter. That's when you use Rage Slash

Wait for the combo to finish and then counter the last hit. Teostra's new double paw slam into spin is a good example, just run away until the third hit of the combo.
For attacks that are true multi-hits, you're completely immune to knockback after a successful counter and before pressing the TCS button. If you're using counter Rage Slash, you have superarmor during Rage Slash and want to get hit during it for the boosted damage anyway.
Surge Slash is basically just there for beginners who don't know how long to charge for during openings
Rage absorbs damage like sponge. That's the true game breaking aspect of it. With the double tackle combo opener you're practically a tank

I use Blast weapons, so it works on at least 90% of all monsters.
If you're noticing hunts are going slower than usual, you'll probably need to invest in elemental weaknesses.
Give me some fun jank stuff. Currently playing SA Foray where I try to unload as much damage as possible when poison ticks or my pets trigger paralysis. Also helps me memorize where blight toads are on each map.

There's no Tanking in monster hunter.
The Diablos helm gives 3 points of guard and has a slot big enough for 2 more points. Throw 1-3 points into guard up decorations depending on your preference and you’re all set, from there you can just do whatever else you want.

I never used them in base Rise so my experience is just from previous games. Ariel DBs with the new drill move are super fun. Also with the buffs to element, holy shit do they hit hard now.

No need for the game to do it. I'll explain it for you. You only do the big drill damage if you hit a weak spot with your hit. If you hit a non weak spot you fly through the monster.

Not as annoying as 4U's Apexes, not as boring as World/IB Tempereds, I'm only on A2 quests so far and this is post nerf so I dunno if they'll be as bloated as GU's Hypers.
My only gripe with it is how hard to reach some cores can be sometimes, and i would appreciate a bit more of visual feedback on whenever you're actually hitting the core or not.

There is some audio feedback but it can be a bit hard to tell apart when there's a lot of shit going on, having the damage numbers be red when hitting a core (just like how they're red when showing the damage of the core exploding) or having the flashes when hitting them be more noticeable would be helpful.

In my experience element seems to be better most of the time. Some things don't have good or consistent elemental weakspots though so in those cases you use impact. The best ones are valstrax/dragon tree, narwa, aurora somna, rakna, and the vaik fish CB. For impact either the diablos one or the final boss one are good. I don't really frick with spinning slash

Should I buy Sunbreak? I liked Rise but it was definitely the monster hunter game I played the least overall (even though that’s still a large amount of time). But if the DLC adds a good amount of monsters/content then I might by it. I never really played Iceborne that much though, so I feel compelled to just play that.

If you're solely looking for monsters to fight, Rise/Sunbreak currently has 1 less monster than World/Iceborne (62 vs 63), but will quickly outpace it when the title updates start dropping for Sunbreak (from next month). Iceborne will (probably) have more stuff to grind though, so if you need that extra motivation to play than that'll be the game for you.

Given the language being used, TU will probably be larger than that since we already know it's got Lucy and Seething Bazel, plus several more monsters. Rise’s first update added 6 monsters and the second added 3, I don’t think that updates with 4 monsters each and 1 update with 3 monsters in it is that big a deal, it’s only 2 more total than base Rise got. Adding 1 or 2 monsters per update was what they did with World and Iceborne, with Rise and Sunbreak they’re clearly trialling less updates but with more things in them.

World/Iceborne had to survive for 3 years because Rise was delayed a year because it's segregated maps level design had to be scrapped (due to the success of World funnily enough).

There are Longsword descriptions in the files for several monsters not in the game, Lucent Nargacuga and Seething Bazelgeuse among them, who we know are coming in updates already, so we can assume that the other Longsword descriptions are for update monsters too. One of them describes a sunset coloured Espinas blade, which lines up with Espinas’ subspecies from Frontier which was an orange-brown colour. So we can assume that Espinas Subspecies is in and it’s English name might be Sunset Espinas.
The datamined Espinas was his subspecies from Frontier and we already know that's coming in TU2, compare his pose in pic related to the mysterious silhouette in the 2nd update in the roadmap.

Espinas and Mizutsune species are coming in update 2 (look at the silhouettes), and update 1 has at least 1 more variant besides Seething Bazelgeuse in it according to the roadmap, so there is at least one monster not in that datamine that will be present in update 1. No guarantee it is Chaotic Gore though, could be fricking Frostfang Barioth or something brand new for all we know.
The armor datamine from the demo had Chaotic Gore's armor in it, so it definitively is coming in an update.

If day wait for the updates to come out before getting Sunbreak just yet, it only adds 17 monsters at launch compared to Iceborne which added 27 at launch, and it’s the same price as Iceborne. It’s a lot of fun and I’m enjoying it a lot more than base Rise but without the updates it doesn’t feel like quite enough to justify the price for me honestly, though given the amount of new monsters it seems like the updates are going to add it will probably be worth it in a couple months’ time. So I’d recommend finishing Iceborne first, by the time you’re done with that we’ll have at least 1 update with 5 monsters in it out for Sunbreak and it’ll feel more worth the price imo.

I could be wrong, but I remember attack boost's % bonus being a flat addition of base raw added that isn't modified by stuff. We're at the point where affinity is probably almost always going to always beat raw, and we have a bunch of really nice CE pieces. Just napkin math, with CB3, every 5% additional affinity is like a 2% damage boost, or 7 raw on a 350 weapon that's actually boosted by everything else. CE4 would be at minimum 28 raw vs AB4's 24.5. Base raw iis so high that affinity is just going to scale better, and it's so easy to hit CE7 now.
Slotting in Daora Soul to the rampage slot is probably a tiny bit worse than the species damage bonus israeliteel, but works on literally everything for 15% affinity. Then CE7 + WE3 and you're at 85% on weakspots. Honestly I'd just throw the AB in the trash for guard skills you want, and try to get one-hit wonder stuff like chain crit if I could.

If you can get like 70% or more affinity Crit Boost is the biggest generic damage gain after Weakness Exploit, less than that and you'd probably want Agitator or Chain Crit first

At 50% affinity CB is the biggest dps increase in the game. WEX gives you 50% affinity versus weakspots. They're both just too efficient in most cases. And once you're there, you gain more for stacking the other affinity boost skills to get to 100% than you do from much else.

Its already not that hard for most weapons to use both though, Agitator already gives crit

You are, Rise changed it so AB gives you a massive 10% increase at max level as well as a flat +10 so it's definitely better to get than crit eye and CB for lance since it barely has any room for anything else.
-20% afinity only average out to a 4% damage loss, it's fine.
I've done a lot of napkin math on it for the Lance, I was trying to keep Blood Rite and dropping it for full affinity stacking wasn't enough of a gain to be worth it to me IMO
Still managed to fit Offensive Guard + Weakness Exploit + Agitator + Crit Boost 2 into the set along with a Daora rampage gem though

To be fair Lagiacrus was way too long for Ancient Forest. That map is second only to Volcanic Hollow in being the most dogshit map in the series.

It could happen in MH6 actually, it probably won’t be out until 2024 given Covid delayed every Capcom project by like 6-12 months and it was listed as a 2023 title in the pre-Covid ransomware leaks, which means that it will have had 6 whole years of development plus all that money World made behind it. Don't quite remember, but I think that Chain Crit past 1 isn't too efficient. Blood Rite 2 is probably better, but it's somewhat weapon dependent. GS seems to get fantastic value out of even a single point, other weapons need more to see healing come out at a good rate.

Monsties are easy to swap out, and their field ability is not tied to their combat prowess.
They should add the whip wyverns to mainline honestly. They’re very cool designs, Berukyurosu and Doragyurosu came out in the early Frontier days and would fit into mainline really well, while Zenaserisu looks moronic in game but pretty neat in concept art.
The Jungle relic records also tease a monster with steel-blue wings, just like how the Sandy Plains relic records teased Valstrax months before he was added to the game.

I looked and frick they do have more. Gaismagorm weapons have more than twice as much purple sharpness as Fatalis weapons had in Iceborne. I actually think me need a new sharpness tier now.

In Frontier white was 1.6, purple was 1.7 and sky blue was 1.8. It can be a big a boost as they want. The difference in sharpness is all over the place.

From green to purple every level gives you an extra 15%, 10% and 5% respectively.

Guard Dash feels way better to use in most fights still
Guard dash makes it much easier to keep focused on a specific place on the monster, and the leaping thrust combo is honestly pretty fricking great at cutting tails in a short order. The fact that it keeps your guard direction mostly the same is great regardless of your jumping direction, so you can actually retreat with your guard up, and return with an attack instead of being forced to advance and possibly going through the monster.
Idk how people would have issue focusing on one spot when you can pivot Powerguard, Anchor Rage, and Cross Swipe now
I get using the tackle for the fast KO buildup but it kills your reach at mid ranges unless the monster is completely locked down
because you want to keep hitting the monster with R2+Triangle until you can use leaping thrust

Sidesteps in general only have 4 base iframes and Evade Window only adds 1 frame per point.

It's slow as frick but apparently wrecks a handful of monsters that stand around between attacks long enough or if they have weak wings, or if you're using a Paralysis weapon I guess

Skyward thrust is an attack that just generally easier to get the damage out of than spiral thrust. Also if a monster has a "standing upright" part of their animation, you will wreck shop with it.
I wish it wasn't on the same input as Anchor Rage
