Emulation has actually been working in their favor by letting people who don't have their consoles get into their games, but in recent years Nintendo has been waging a war against emulation so fewer and fewer people are actually getting into the Nintendo ecosystem.

Nintendo has really innovative hardware and innovative game mechanics, the problem imo is that they don't go far enough with the mechanics because their target audience is so young. Odyssey controlled so smoothly, it's a shame that there were so many pointless filler moons and not enough challenging levels and areas. If they at least threw a bone or two every year and semi-regularly released something like Metroid Dread I would be satisfied. As is, I'm going to keep enjoying their hardware for the purpose of playing other games.

Nintendo themselves haven't released anything interesting in years, and their output has been overall underwhelming (despite a bunch of excellent titles), especially considering that they had to focus on only one system this time. Hell, we didn't even get a new Mario Kart.
Crazy that they didn't took advantage of such a huge userbase to popularize lesser known series like F-Zero, Kid Icarus, Wario Land or Metroid (they could've used Dread's engine to remake older titles at least).
