WHY DOES NOBODY EVER MENTION THIS GAME?

Hegemony 3 is a pretty good game, the series in general are pretty good, the gameplay is great so I am very suprised that not many people mention these games.
Why do you think that is?

The game just seems to have never really caught on, to the point where they seem to have basically cancelled the planned DLC for Hegemony 3.
Shame, it was a fun gameplay loop and it felt like they were evolving.

They just needed better marketing in my opinion as the game is very good and their gameplay only got better and better, Hegemony 3 in particular in comparison to the Hegemony gold is night and day with the QoL features.
They just needed to get popular youtubers to review their game and seeing as they are a very niche game nearly all youtube reviewers would have jumped at it so as to appear more knowledgeable about games than they are.

Animations and graphic aren't polished and unit control isn't great either. Another factor is Total War, which dominates the market. Hegemony 3 looks like a shitty Total War clone on most Screenshots.

I think in some part that is the problem. I think the game very much tried to be better than total war in every aspect. And that ambitious goal was often unfeasible or even undesirable. This is so applicable to the entire game that I would be very hard pressed in try to explain it. It is pervasive from all mechanics to even the graphics. To those who played it I think it needs no explaining, to those who haven’t played it - do so, it is a very good if tragic game. If I had the power, to make Hegemony 4 I would gut a lot of systems.

Was it confirmed? I suspected something happened after checking their website only revealed news from 2020 and they've had no updates since then.
Sad to see it happen, though. They had a really cool formula going.

As far as I can see every single account and website related to them just stopped posting in 2019 and 2020. Which is odd because they're still paying for the servers to host their own website. It almost feels like they were very disappointed about how Hegemony 3 did given the investment and focused on a side scroller point and click puzzle solver (that did VERY badly) and then re-released an ancient dos game that is probably had the best returns given the investment.

It sounds like they're probably on full on maintenance/skeleton crew mode. According to wikipedia they had a failed kickstarter, but that might have been before Hegemony 3 released.

It was a good game that was unfortunately missing some of the polish that would have made it a truly excellent game. It had a lot of poor balance, had funky animations, and some horrific gameplay elements that needed patching out when it was released (bandits were a nightmare). They basically needed the paradox treatment, but had barely any notice. I will say that Hegemony 1 is the very best of their games, though. If you want the most tailored experience play as Phillip on his conquests.

      Basically this

It does need a lot of changes. The biggest problem for me was that they had spent so much time on these systems and gameplay loops that you'd barely get to experience because it was more efficient to just rush the enemy and mass produce archers to make any armies or forts in your way pointless.

Good game that seems to fall apart once you become to big.

its one of the strategy few games that actually has a logistics system. The company went silent for some reason.

And to add, no one actually plays these games for the total war style battles. They play it for the operational level.

I played Hegemony Gold only so can't really speak about Hegemony 3.
But HG have plenty of problems
    >strategic AI(it isn't aggressive enough, can't make invasions, at best it do raids and you can get pushed back a little if you over extend but that is all
    >lacking diplomacy
    >colors and ui - all brown

They fixed this, but the diplomacy thing is lacking I agree.
If they had added more diplomacy options, it would unironically be a great game, its already decent.
I dont think they have funding to continue anymore though sadly.

If there ever was to be a Hegemony 4 what (You), Anon, change?

The Latium Mod (pic related), which I personally think is better than the base game, Reworks city upgrades as to being temples that give not only a city buff but contribute a nation-wide one aswell. It prevents the cities upgrades forming to OP, (like markets) or unnecessary like forums.

I would focus more on the macro scale and lean into the logistics/big picture elements which are the series particular strength. Rather than micromanaging individual battles the idea would be that raising armies and mobilizing enough troops (and sustaining them) would be the real challenge, along with army composition.
This might be more controversial but I'd also simplify city management and make it more about properly keeping cities under control/colonizing them and fully exploiting their wealth. City upgrades would be more things like building walls or planting a permanent garrison there rather than building markets and shit, for example.
I'd also add smaller outlying settlements around major cities that are basically there to make the world feel more alive + add independent trade caravans and shit.

Better sieges and city management, actual diplomacy instead of "50 gold to frick off", internal politics, better unit pathfinding so they don't get stuck in every 2nd bridge.
