pretty much this. SMT is about an overarching theme, its about "the big picture" where persona is about the social implications of a terrible event happening. persona also captures either a setting people wish they had, or wish they could go back to. im 35 now and most of the friends i spent all my time with in grade school are now gone, be it due to starting families of their own, moving away, or death.
the overarching themes in smt are usually baby googoo gaga simplistic garbage, to the point 50% of the fanbase says they don't care about the story at all and just play for the gameplay. smt games are simply not well made for what they're supposed to be, they aren't very good at presenting lofty ideas or giving you choices. however, persona is absolutely EXCELLENT at being a young adult novel teaching teens valuable lessons in video game form. this is why persona sells more, it excels at what it is supposed to be, it's making its fanbase very very happy and satisfied, who then go around spreading the word of the game. in SMT, you have people who only care about the gameplay, who get pissed at games like SMTIV, people who like the ideas and worlds created who get pissed at SMTV. in the end the games simply do not have nearly as good word of mouth as persona had with 3, then 4 and then 5, because they're too flawed at what they're supposed to be.
>however, persona is absolutely EXCELLENT at being a young adult novel teaching teens valuable lessons in video game form
Yeah, in fact Persona is so good at teaching those lessons that most of the fans are shut-in incels who live out their social life vicariously through Joker and the other protags
That doesn't make the product worse. You think anyone who reads those young adult books takes lessons from them and becomes a Chad and asks the cute goth girl out?
ones asian phoneticsalad and the other is an english word with an a tacked on for flavor, with a boatload a' jojo references. its a winning formula, get with it games factory.
im not japanese, the title isn't in katawalabalabongo scribbletext its in ENGLISH. unless i can obviously tell its trying to say sushi im going to assume its hamburger
>why does the traditional JRPG with minimal dialogue and weird occult themes sell less than the game that lets you live out your fantasies of being a popular kid and dating hot chicks?
A mystery for the ages
because its boring shit
t. fell for the smt is good meme for 3 diferent games
i already swore to never try another smt again, no matter how hard they make my dick
Because Persona is a dating sim, there's your answer for why one blew up and the other didn't. Persona is also an easy target of attraction for youngsters, you're never gonna see a zoomer get into SMT naturally unless they were influenced by word-of-mouth. I visited like three RPG fan groups and the only members that played SMT were over 25, most of the zoomers weren't interested in Megaten beyond Persona.
Persona is literally designed to be a more accessible SMT. Which is kind of hilarious when Atlus corporate tries to sell SMT like Persona instead of emphasizing their differences and how each is unique. Love both btw, Megaten and it's spin offs is my favorite JRPG franchise.
Nocturne really ruined the perspective on smt stories. They are typically very complex. On the surface though they are easy to grasp, if you look past that there is always more to it, including SMTV.
Nocturne is the only mainline game with a sparse story but that was for a reason too. Only thing is, it's the game everyone thinks of when they think of SMT. That or SJ which was filled with a lot of fantasy science jargon to make it feel like a sci-fi movie so the themes in that game fly over people's heads too.
who cares, post more sexy fairy
She's a tengu not a fairy.
ill turn that tengu in to a tenga if you know what i mean
?
Explain.
I’ll shoot ten goo’s all over those tengu feet
I wanna lick your ten goos off those tengu feet
SMT is about the setting and lofty ideas.
Persona is about the characters.
"What would you do with the power of God?" vs "Teenagers fighting a God stand in with the power of friendship!"

No and I'd hope no one claims those young adult books are good for teaching morals

>english word with an a tacked on for flavor
You can't actually be this moronic.
you really think to most fans persona is anything more than person + a?
by saying the a is tacked on for flavour you exposed yourself as a moron

> doesn’t know Jungian psychology even when the game spoonfeeds the basics.
Because SMT doesn’t have dating sim elements

feet
not enough toki
I totally skipped SMT just because of the name. Thank you Ganker for shilling V last year. Love these games.
because its boring shit

Because it's less well known, thread done

Because SMT is better.
I never played Persona but SMT is absolutely a good time.
I always go the Law route because frick lucifer.

>siding with le bald man instead of cute blondie
Yikes
my salvation is more important than fleeting things like sex.
According to gnosticism (which the gane is based on) they’re both bad.

Because you homosexuals just want to play a high school dating sim virtual novel.
Most people aren't gay
>you will never be the young man and the object of affection of a big dick robot and a flying onahole
