When it is GDQ week or ESA I put the stream up on the TV (24/7) and shitpost from the couch on my phone with you GankerBlack folk if a good run is on, if a boring run is on I will shitpost at my computer and maybe have a game running too. If a troony then stream still stays up but it will be muted.

Yeah, that's why I speedrun in addition to jogging. I waste less time on something I hate, and more time on something I like, while being equally (or more) healthy than sports morons.
If you ask me jogging sucks, intense bike riding is superior by a long shot, it's much easier on the body, much easier to recover from, lets you squat heavy and overall provides a higher cardiovascular benefit than running. If you live in a big city you can pick a cool place like a thriftshop you never been to or a garage sale to bring back cool and interesting vidya.
I used to jog for cutting and it absolutely destroyed my body even with moderate intensity, the meme that cardio kills gains comes from jogging. Switched to riding bike to Uni and now I feel like I can eat 3000kcals and still lose weight while making gains at the gym.

These are degenerates who secretly hope to get acclaim for something no one cares about. They dream about going to GDQ and fantasize about getting a record on stage and becoming an e-celebs. They'd never be doing it without some vague promise of a reward for of they get good enough. No wonder so many of them lose all sense of self, break down, and then troon out.
Then there are people who like breaking down games. They're not in it for world records. They genuinely have a passion for a game and just enjoy coming up with tech and routes, sharing them with the community if the game is popular, and would probably be fixing around with game mechanics even if speedrunning wasn't a thing. Imagine someone decides to solve the same sudoku a thousand times until the point where he has memorized everything and the real challenge is how fast he can write the numbers on paper. This is basically what speedrunners do, so it's the most degenerate activity in the gaming world.

In a way it is autism too, the best at this activity don't even know why the techniques they use work, they just acquire a huge repertoire and apply them with speed, but at least they have the benefit that the combinations are practically infinite so they will come across a "new cube" every time.
I think the sudoku example is more appropriate for most speedrunners because their activity is no longer related to the game itself. Memorizing a sudoku makes it meaningless and solving it quickly is linked to skills that have nothing to do with the original game (speed writing, basically). Many speedrunners fall into this same category, they're making some crazy inputs to get through a wall in Ocarina of Time or bug the flag in SMB, things that have no further relation to the game itself.

You're right, but donations were a lot more "natural" I guess you could say. They frequently came from other speedrunners/obvious gamers, and were frequently funny, or tried to invoke chat interaction somehow. It was basically "pay to be in the event for a few seconds." Because the rate of donations was pretty slow it didn't become oppressive.
Donation reading made the event better, not worse like it does now since they were not as heavily filtered.

There will always be some minor difference in a run. They get so excited. "Oh, mario got a firstie!" But ideally there would be almost no variance, and as your skill improves it becomes less interesting.

There are games where it makes sense you want to 'go fast' and break records. Racing games are an easy one, but there's also stuff like Sonic CD time trials or games like Moving Out.
